Hi everyone, I just wanted to know if anyone out there has any info on John Hickey(b:1792) and Marguerite LaPointe(b:1795) ? Im searching for David Hickey and I think his parents may have been them. If anyone has info about David Hickey born around 1831-1835 and who was from Restigouche County and may have moved to Blackville, Northumberland County around 1861 then married Margaret Layton, I would like to hear from you. I have found him in the census 1861-1871-1881 but not in the 1851 census. The only David Hickey (Hickie) in the 1851 census was John and Marguerite's son I believe. Any help anyone can give me would be appreciated.Thank You.

Obituary: Robert Dawson, died 16 Jan 1927

Campbellton Tribune
Wednesday, 19 January 1927, page 1

Robert Dawson Passes Away
Had Been in Poor Health for Several Months – Aged 67 Years

The news of the death of Mr. Robert Dawson, while not unexpected, which occurred on Sunday at his home in Maple Green, was received in all quarters with feelings of profound sorrow. The late Mr. Dawson who was in his 67th year was highly regarded and much esteemed, and his passing will be mourned by a large circle of friends. A little over a year ago he was taken down with rheumatism, and although all that loving hands and careful nursing could do for him was done he passed peacefully away on Sunday last.

Deceased leaves to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate husband and father, a bereaved wife, 3 sons, Ivan, of Dalhousie Junction; Harry, of Atholville; and Russell, at home; and 4 daughters, Mrs. Albert Thompson, of Pt. LaNim; Mrs. Victor Jamieson, of Dalhousie Junction; and Elizabeth and Muriel at home, to whom heartfelt sympathy of the community is extended in the loss of their beloved and respected one.

He is also survived by 2 brothers, George, of Dawsonville; and Ralph, of Ontario; and 4 sisters, Dora & Elizabeth, of Campbellton; Mrs. Wheeler, of Runnymede, and Mrs. Moores, of U.S.A.

The funeral service will be held this afternoon from his late residence, Maple Grove, at 2 o’clock, interment being made in the Campbellton Rural Cemetery.

Note from transcriber: I think that the mention of "Mrs. Moores" is not Robert Dawson's sister, but rather his niece

Marriage Look-up: Newlands and Smith

One never knows where family research may take you, and in this case it may have led me to New Brunswick, via Michigan and Scotland. The marriage I am interested in is:

Name: Newlands, Archibald J.
Married: Smith, Florence
Date: 1920/12/18
County: Restigouche
Parish: Campbellton
Number: 2958
Reference: B4/1920
Microfilm: F19676

I think that Archibald (also known as Archie) was the son of James Newlands and Catherine Munro and would really appreciate it if someone could confirm this information. And, perhaps needless to say, if anyone has any further information on this family, I would be very happy to from them. My connection to the family is through Catherine Monro and her family.

Hoping that someone can help,
Gail

Hello all. Looking for information about ancestors & descendants of the above couple [many of their descendants lived in Restigouche county and/or Bonaventure county, Quebec.] Not sure when the family members [with our without the parents?] emigrated to Canada. I believe that Allan Ritchie was born in 1796 in Scotland [could be the Allan Ritchie, born 2 Jan 1796 in Mearns, Renfrew, Scotland, son of David Ritchie & Barbara Gilmour].

So far, I have Allan & Elisabeth (Allison) Ritchie with 7 children, the first five born in Renfrewshire, Scotland:

1. Mary Ritchie, born 8 Aug 1828, Neilston. She married James Michaud, and later lived in Quebec, Canada [I think they are in Montreal in the 1881 census]

2. Barbara G. Ritchie, born 14 April 1830 in Neilston. She married John Wheeler abt 1858; lived in Restigouche county, New Brunswick and Bonaventure county, Quebec. They had 4 children. She died in 1909 and is buried in Dawsonville, Restigouche Co., N.B.

3. Elisabeth Ritchie, born 21 Feb 1833 in Neilston. She married James Ritchie; I believe they lived in Restigouche County, N.B.

4. David Ritchie, born 28 Dec 1835 in Neilston; married Margaret Girvan

5. Margaret Ritchie, born 21 March 1838 in Neilston; married Valentine Wheeler, born abt 1837. They married about 1861; 8 children. Lived in Bonaventure county, Quebec.

6. Annabelle Ritchie, married Robert Ritchie

7. Jane Ritchie, married ??? Shewan

Anyone with connections to these families?
Robert McIntosh born 1774 in Perthshire, Scotland

Looking for any info on Robert McIntosh born 1774 in Perthshire, Scotland. His father was William McIntosh. Supposedly William was closely connected to one of the Clan Chiefs of the Clan Mackintosh. Anne Barry, grand daughter of Robert's son William, passed down that Robert's father William was the son of Robert Mackintosh and Anne MacQueen. Another relative thought that William was a grandson of Alexander Mackintosh (d. 1781 Newburgh, Fife)whose oldest son Aeneas later became Chief. Alexander's 2nd son, William was baptized 11 July 1756 in Newburgh, Fife. Obviously there have been some oral traditions that Robert had some family connection to the Chiefs of the Clan Mackintosh, I'm looking for other relatives/descendants that would have additional information or records that can help clear this matter up.

I am especially looking for a family bible, either one that belonged to Robert and his wife Agness or their children.

I have searched and searched and have not been able to find a suitable baptism for Robert. In Ira Beattie's research he says that Robert was born 3 October 1774. Robert's tombstone in New Mills, Restigouche, New Brunswick says that Robert was a native of Logierait, Perthshire. Also his name is spelled M'Intosh.

If Robert had a close connection with the Chiefs it is possible that Robert was baptized as an Episcopalian because the Chiefs of the Clan Mackintosh were Jacobite supporters and many of them were Episcopalian.

Robert married Agness Bartie in Errol, Perthshire on December 5, 1802.

Their children are as follows: William (1803 Errol), Robert (1805, Errol), Joseph (1808 Craiglochie), Hugh (1809), John (1810 Craiglochie), David (1812 Kilspindie), James (1814 Kilspindie), Alexander Saunders (Lochmill), Peter (1818 Lochmill), Agnes (1820 Lochmill), Euphemia (1823 Lochmill), George (1824 Lochmill), Thomas (1827 Lochmill).

Robert and Agnes emigrated to Restigouche county, New Brunswick in June of 1833, William and David emigrated in 1839, Alexander in May of 1833 and all of the other children, except not sure where Joseph and Hugh ended up.

Robert died Dec 12, 1846 and Agness died in 1863. They are buried in New Mills, Restigouche, New Brunswick.

Any help on Robert's parentage and lineage would be appreciated as well as any other info and family records.

HI

I might be in the wrong county for this but here it goes. My gr-gr grandmother was Olive Chamberlain, her husband was Frances Guitard and he was from Point Green, NB. I am trying to locate Olive's parents. The only info I have is some birth records of Olive and Frances's children and a story from my uncle. He was born in and lived on the St. Onge farm, Maple Grove, Dalhousie, NB till here was five years old. He remembers a Charlie Chamberlain coming to visit and being a cousin. When they move to Windsor, ON they use to watch a program on the CBC called the Don Messer and the Islanders. Charlie used to perform on that show. If you know Olive parents or are related to this Charlie Chamberlain please let me know. There is myself and two other cousins trying to get the ball rolling on this side of our family tree.

Thanks

Kim

From her marriage record on the NB archives website, Doris Winnifred Mann married Arnold George Dawson on 8 April 1931. From her cemetery tombstone in Dawsonville, she lived from 1910 - 1990. I would like to find out who her parents were.

There is a birth record for a Doris Welthy Mann, d/o John Mann & Florence Winifred Marshall, born 23 Sept 1910 in Robinsonville [also on NB archives website]. John & Florence (Marshall) Mann are buried in the same cemetery in Dawsonville as the Doris Mann who married Arnold George Dawson.

Can anyone confirm whether "my" Doris Winifred Mann and the Doris Welthy Mann are the same person? If they are not, can anyone provide me with the name of my Doris Mann's parents? Thanks much in advance!

I stand to be corrected but I believe these registers were
originally transcribed by Jackson Ross and that his copy
is on file with the Restigouche Genealogical Society.

These names appearing in Jackson's transcription do not
appear in the on-line version:

Elizabeth Smith d/o John Smith and Rose Ann (Christy)
baptized September 19, 1847 at two months.

Richard Smith d/o John Smith and Rose Ann (Christie)
laborer Rest. baptized July 1, 1849 at two months.

Christy (should be Smith per Jackson's notes) Sisa d/o
Rory Smith and Mary (Christie) farmer Rest. baptized
July 25, 1854 at two months.

A check of the census will confirm that this is Eliza
Smith the d/o Rory and Mary.

It would be appreciated if someone could check on these
entries and advise.

I know they were from Maple Green (Grove?) and that Mary was the daughter of Colonel James MacPherson. John, I believe was originally from the US as the oral history has him descending from the Mayflower. They had at least two daughters. Rosanna Robinson married Robert Dickie. The other daughter I know was Nan MacPherson Smith. Can anyone help. I would like to know where John came from and if possible the regiment for Colonel MacPherson.

Archibald Johnstone m. Ada Fraser, 1911 in Restigouche

Archibald Johnstone was my grandfather. He was born December 20, 1888 in Glasgow, Scotland. I don't know when he came to Canada but he was residing in New Brunswick prior to WWI. His WWI Attestation Papers listed his spouse as Ada Johnstone. I found a marriage record on the Provincial Archives website for Archibald Johnstone and Ada Fraser being married on September 20, 1911 in Restigouche which I believe to be my grandfather's marriage. I know that Archibald and Ada had 4 children and parted ways in Montreal within a few months of my grandfather's discharge from the CEF. My grandfather ended up in Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay) Ontario where he married my grandmother. I have no record of what happened to Ada and the children other than a notation on my grandfather's WWI pension records that Ada and the children moved to Philadelphia.

If you have any information regarding Archibald, Ada or their children I would appreciate hearing from you. My father knew about his father's first marriage but was surprised when I mentioned the notation in the WWI records of their having 4 children.

Thanks.

Jacquie

When doing research in Restigouche County, please keep in mind that it was once called Gloucester County, between the years of 1827 to 1838. Between the years of 1786 and 1826 it was called Northumberland County. Please also do not confuse Restigouche County with Restigouche or Ristigouche
Province of Quebec which is a MicMac Indian Reserve just across the River from Campbellton. This parish of "Ste Anne de Ristigouche" is very closely related to Restigouche County and a very good place to look for your ancestors as it is one of the oldest parishes in the area with records dating back as far as 1759, and Campbellton use to be served by the capucins of Ristigouche.

For more information go to:
http://www.combose.com/Regional/North_America/Canada/New_Bru...

http://nbgenlinks.new-brunswick.net/

http://members.tripod.com/~GenNB/society.htm

http://www.genealogy.restigouche.net/

Localities

Atholville
Campbellton
Dalhousie
Dundee
Eel River Bar First Nation
Nash Creek
New Mills
Tide Head

Parishes of Restigouche County:

Addington
Balmoral
Colborne
Dalhousie
Durham
Eldon
Grimmer
Saint-Quentin

Alpheaus Ward buried New Mills

I am researching my WARD family. Alpheaus left the USA and went to Canada. Where he proceeded to have a family and lived the rest of his life. He is the son of Mary Gray Ward and Ebenezer Ward. Ebenezer was born in the USA. Do not know where Ebenezer is buried or when he died. I have the place where Alpheaus was buried and when May 27, 1879 he died. Would like to know if his wife Margaret Dicky Ward and Ward, Ellen, Rebecca and Alpheaus, Jr. are all buried in the same plot. It is
Interdenominational--- New Mills, Restigouch County.
if there is a death record listing his parents, where could I acquire it? Thank you. please email me at: tankmikey@aol.com

Annie Lavigne and Annie Christenson or Christensen. Are they one person?

the facts are;
In 1901 James Isaac Hunt was 18 and living with the MacDonald family in Restigouche. The census shows him as single.
In 1908, James Isaac Hunt had a child born in McAdam NB. Annie Christenson named as mother.

Elizabeth Mary Hunt was born in about 1910. The marriage certificate of Mary Elizabeth Hunt and Edward Beshara give her as the daughter of James Isaac Hunt and Annie Lavigne.

A third child Viola Stella was born in 1913. On her Marriage certificate when she married 1934-03-03 at 22 years old to a David Randate St Clair is Mother Annie Christenson and Father James Isaac Hunt.

Index to Saint John Burials lists related records for VOL:22 NUM:979
Hunt, Annie Age 25, year 1913, RE and Lavigne, Annie Age 25, year 1913, RE
Name: HUNT, ANNIE* Age: 25 Date of Death: 1913-11-26 Birth Place: CAMPBELLTON County of Birth:

RESTIGOUCHE Volume: 22 Number: 979 Microfilm: F20758
Name: LAVIGNE, ANNIE* Age: 25 Date of Death: 1913-11-26 Birth Place: CAMPBELLTON County of Birth: RESTIGOUCHE Volume: 22 Number: 979 Microfilm: F20758

Name: LAVIGNE, ANNIE* Age: 25 Date of Death: 1913-11-26 Birth Place: CAMPBELLTON County of Birth: RESTIGOUCHE Volume: 22 Number: 979 Microfilm: F20758

Good grief! Did James have a child with one woman, then a second child with another woman, and then go back to the first woman and have a third child?
I can't find a marriage certificate for James Isaac and either Annie. Or a death certificate for Annie Christenson.
Does anyone have a clue to this mystery? hmmmm
Christine
