William Henry Faulkner b. 1879 in New Brunswick

Greetings,
I am seeking information on my G Grandfather William Henry Faulkner. The first reference we can find to him in any official documents is on the Census of 1911 living in New Westminster, BC. He married Alice Wharton daughter of Thomas and Annie (We have all the info on them). In that census he stated that he was born in New Brunswick about 1879 and that he was Roman Catholic and Irish Ancestry.

We also have his BC death record.

I am seeking to know who his parents were. There is also the legend that he may have spent time on a reservation in NB? possibly a native mother?

We have no marriage info. Alice Wharton was living in Maine with her parents (though listed as hired out to another family) in the 1900 census. Sometime between 1900 and 1907 (since my G uncle Ray was born in BC) they moved to BC along with her parents and she married.

Supposedly William Henry was an "engineer" i presume of the railroad. We do not know in what county he was born nor the name of his parents. He also stated that he was Irish in Ancestry.

Thank you

Just wanted to let anyone researching the Burpee family know that the New Brunswick Museum archives in Saint John have two photographs of Jessie Florence Burpee, daughter of Isaac Burpee Jr. who settled in Saint John. They also have one photo of a Fred Burpee taken 1878-1885. The eyes look very much like Jessie's so I think it is probably Isaac Jr's son Frederick George who died in 1883.

Whitehead S Barker

Wondering if anyone has done any research themselves containing Whitehead BARKER?

Am doing the BURPEE part of my tree and have that Elizabeth BURPEE, daughter of Jeremiah and Betsy (STICKNEY) BURPEE, married Whitehead S BARKER 14 Nov 1822. Information for this family in the book The Stickney Family by Matthew A STICKNEY lists they had two sons, Archibald and Enoch, and that William died in 1834. No death information was listed for Elizabeth, that I remember. Does anyone know where this family went to after the death of Whitehead S BARKER, if he did indeed die in 1834?

I found another Whitehead S BARKER in the 1851 census in Sheffield with his wife Elizabeth and children, one of whom is named Archibald. There is a ten year age gap between the first two children. The youngest daughter(Amy)of this Whitehead BARKER married Hon. Archibald HARRISON, grandson of Jeremiah BURPEE. My assumption is that the Elizabeth in the 1851 census is Elizabeth TURNEY, (as Amy's middle name was TURNEY) who married a Whitehead BARKER in 1837.

What I am wondering is if the Whitehead S BARKER listed in the 1851 census is the same Whitehead BARKER who married Elizabeth BURPEE in 1822 and it was HER that died in 1834, not him, and then he remarried to Elizabeth TURNEY in 1837. This could account for the age gap between the first two children listed in the census. I thought there was mention of this family in the book "The History and Genealogy of the Jewetts of America" by Frederic JEWETT, but no longer have access to it to go back and see if there was mention of if and where the family relocated.

Any assistance would be most appreciated.

1871 and 1881 Census of Canada - Robert Lockwood Williams

I am relatively new at genealogy so please forgive my not knowing this. I have found out my relative is listed in both census, and I cannot find them online. If someone could tell me how to access the above census for Canada, I would be most appreciative. I have found out that Robert Lockwood Williams is in the 1871 Census as Robert Williams and in the 1881 Census as R. L. Smith. He was born a Williams, lost his parents, adopted and raised by Smiths, and then took the Williams name again when he married. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I'm looking for the parent's names of Robert Lockwood Williams. They were killed in a fire at an inn sometime after his birth. He was then adopted by Thomas Edward Smith and lived with them. He eventually changed his name back to Williams and married one of Smith's daughter's, Margaret Charlotte in 1893 in Sunbury County, New Brunswick. Any help with Robert's past would be greatly appreciated.

George Hayward 1731 and Ann Durley 1731

It has been asserted that they were born in England. Although this is possible, I do not believe it is correct.
The primary fact that has been asserted to prove this is that on a 1788 land petition George stated that he came with his family in 1763 from Great Britain (mistranscribed in Sunbury County land records to say he was a native of GB)to Nova Scotia. It does not say England and it could have also been colonial Massachusetts which was the home of practically every 1763 arrival to the St. John River and in '63 part of GB. George felt he had not received the land he had been promised in '63 and would have wanted to emphasize his loyalty to the crown as the loyaltists were arriving in what was to become Sunbury County. Most other references to the family's being from England were oral history which is often incorrect. It seems correct that his great grandfather had come from England to MA about 1630, so they were English in origin. No record has ever been found for them in England.

I believe George came from Essex County, MA with many other settlers from that area. Among them Perleys which I believe was Ann's correct maiden name. Durley was never documented as her maiden name but passed through the family as tradition.

In 1901 there were 3 sons living at home: Herbert; Horace b. 1868; John R. b. 1872. There was another brother, Leverett S. b. around 1857; sisters Mary and Amanda; and possibly another brother, Eben.
I'm also looking for a Hiram Randall (b. around 1838-40), married to Augusta (Chase). In 1901 they were living between Israel Lawson and Harvey Upton. I think Eben was a son? Thanks in advance; any help is greatly appreciated! ~Charrie

Using the GNB Provincial Archives, I was able to find the following info concerning my great-great grandparents:

John Albert Thompson and Martha Knox - married 1893-06-29 (Sunbury County). John and Martha had 4 children (according to the archives):

1. Mabel Myrtle b. 1893-10-07 (my greatgrandmother)
2. Roy Wallace b. 1896-09-17
3. Ella Jane b. 1901-11-14

Mabel married Charles Iden Little 1910-12-07.

Just wondering if anyone has come across info on Charles Iden Little / John Albert Thompson?

Does anyone know who this lady might be? I have notes that she was born in 1759, but don't know her parents. Amariah was from Bellingham, Mass, and they were married by a Rev. Noah Alden, a Baptist minister. If she was a Mrs. in 1779 she would have been a very young widow. Perhaps Mr Wright, if there was one, died during the Revolutionary War? I'm just guessing, and hoping that someone has some answers, or more clues.

Thanks for any help you have!

He was born in 1840. In the 1861 census his mother Betsy was living with his family in F'ton, in the 1871 census she was a widow,in the 1881 Census they were living in Burton.
Gilbert Dougherty / Doherty Land Petition Sunbury county > Canterbury

In a petition dated 25 September 1821, Gilbert Dougherty stated he was discharged from The 97th Regiment of Foot 2 1/2 years prior to his immigation to New Brunswick and was given a location ticket for lots no 3 and 4 on the south side of the Shepody Road in the Province of New Brunswick. ( where would this be located in New Brunswick? ). As this was in a remote location he wished in his petition to surrender it in favor of land between the Rusgagonis strean and Phillips Mills on the North Branch of The Oromocto River. He stated he was a married man and had a large family. I am unable to find where this land was granted to him. I do see a Gilbert Doherty in the 1851 Census in Canterbury however by that time he is living with his wife and three Grown children. Does any one know if this is the same person and whether there would be other children that possibly settled in other parts of Sunbury or York counties. Thanks for your assistance.

I am looking for info on Nathaniel Winters. A person by this name petitioned for land on the Geary ( Gary) Stream in Burton Sunbury Parish on 19 September 1823. He stated he was in the province for 5 years. From Where??. He stated he was married. To Who??. I do not think he ever was granted this land as I was unable to find a record at the NB archives. In the 1851 census parish of Dumfries there is a Nathanial Winters ( widowed) living with His son Charles Winters, son in law George Dorherty Doherty), daughter Maria ann Dorherty and their children Mabel amd Mary F. The cnesus stated he had been in the province since 1816. Does any one know if these two Nathaniel Winters were connected.

Greenfield, Sunbury or Carleton Co? Census Look-up....

Does anyone know anything about the community of Greenfield Settlement?
I have found 2 references; one says Carleton Co., Wicklow parish

http://geonames.nrcan.gc.ca/search/search_e.php

and one says Burton, Sunbury Co. (Hutchinson Directory, 1865 PANB)

http://archives.gnb.ca/APPS/PrivRecs/HD/Search-e.aspx?PageLo...

The family I am looking for is that of Samuel Randall (b. c. 1791) who married Mary Ann Howland June 7, 1823
[Ichabod Howland, see

http://cgrasse.freehomepage.com/Howland_Ichabod.html

where it states child iv. MARY b. after 1776 married ? BANDLIS ? or "Randles" as he is called in the 1881 Census, Sheffield; also in Probate record as "Mary Brindley ?" I think should be "Randall" ]

Samuel appears to have come from the US around 1815, (possibly with a brother, Asa, who appears in Sheffield marriage records as marrying Mary Ann Chase, June 5, 1821).
Samuel Jr., was b. 1825 in Greenfield, Sunbury Co.

Was it near Burton? Or in Carleton? Any insight would be appreciated, thanks.

Susanna Estey married Nathaniel Wright

Hello to all fellow researchers,

I have recently begun to research a branch of my New Brunswick family. I have a Zebulon Wright who married Anna Bloodworth. I know almost nothing about them, but I have been enticed with the possibility that Zebulon Wright may have been the son of Nathaniel Wright and Susanna Estey.

As I've searched on the internet, I've found quite a bit of information on the Estey family, but I've never been able to find any information on Nathaniel and Susanna (Estey) Wright, not even a marriage date. Does anyone know anything about this couple? Did they indeed have children? Right now all that I have are: roughly right place, roughly right time, and the right names. I sure seems likely that Susanna might have named a son Zebulon.

Thanks,
Jason

Need help on the elusive Shirley family! John Shirley (perhaps aka James) was born in Massachussetts in abt. 1797 and came to New Brunswick via Maine in 1820. He married 1. Frances Webber of Burton in 1824 and 2. Frances Louisa Brown of Queensbury, York abt. 1830. Children from first marriage were Elizabeth (1825-1864; married Joseph Alexander) and Margaret (1829-?). Children from second marriage: Annis Skidmore (1832-1887; m. Richardson Boone); Frances Louisa (1834-1873; m. Thomas Alexander Jr); John (1837-?); Jane (1839-?); Lydia (1840-?); John Edward (1843-?); William Chandler (1845-?); Charlotte (1847-?; m. Charles Lindsay).

Family lore insists the Shirley family were United Empire Loyalists. We know that John is descended from Massachussetts Governor William Shirley (whose lineage included English and European nobility)... but we can't make the connection between them!

Any info would be greatly appreciated, including John Shirley's descendants.

It does not give James parents names or birthplaces. Would anyone in your area have access to old recordsto find this information for me. I would appreciate it as I am at a stone wall with James information. They lived in Caribou (Eaton Grant) during 1850 US Census, but by 1871,James was with son Frederick in Victoria, Canada according to Canadian Census. He was born around 1805 in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick, Canada. Any help would be greatly apprecated and I will share any info I have. Thant you.

Am seeking any and all information on Stephen GALLISHAN/ GULLISON (1727-1814), his wife, Mary LARKIN, and/or their children: Stephen, Jr.(1752-1807), James, Samuel; Mary (m. Joseph WHISTON), Betty (m. David BURPE), Hannah (m. Samuel PEABODY) and Ruth (m. Moses WELLS). Stephen lived in Lincoln Parish and maybe also Sheffield Parish, Sunbury Co., as well as Queensbury, York Co. Where were Stephen and his wife buried? I don't think it is in Sheffield, altho David Burpe recorded Stephen's death in the town records. Also, an Abigail GALLISHAN m. Joseph BURPE, brother to David BURPE. Whose daughter was she?

Good day... I am looking for info regarding my GG Grandparents James E. Bailey (1832 or 34) and Elizabeth McMahon (1842). Planters, Loyalists or immigrants? Seems Elizabeth's father, Silas immigrated from Ireand. They were still on the 1901 census residing at Newcastle Creek/Bridge. My G. Grandparents were Hollie (Holland/Holley) Silas Bailey (1862) & Bertha Laura Briggs (1862). My Grandfather Roy Gardner Bailey (1903) and father, Gerald Clifton Bailey (1927) were born at Newcastle Bridge.

There were a spate of Wood marriages 1814,15,16 etc in Sunbury County: Wood-Allaby, Wood-Stennick x2,Wood-Mersereau x2,Wood-Good,Wood-DeWitt.
The Woods, mostly female, were born 1791-1796.

Only possible parents I can find: Bethuel Wood (1753-1832) & Elizabeth Howland (1752-1825), who were in the Studholme Report.

Does anyone know better?

I am surprised not to have found more definite info, since the above-mentioned families' trees have to funnel through these relatively early marriages (as seen in an earlier note about the Allaby family).

Cordially,
JR White

I am particulary interested in the Stennicks, but we may all be cousins.

Hi
I've just discovered a GGG Grandmother, who apparently came from Oromocto, although she lived in Saint John once married. I'm trying to find her in the 1851 census, or at least narrow it down as I only have her first name. If I knew what parish Oromocto was in in 1851 it might help narrow down the list.

Thanks
Heather

Need death
date, death place & burial place of Thomas Langan, and names of of children. What relationship was this Thomas Langan to his contemporary Thomas L.
A few weeks ago I started hosting the Sunbury County website. I am trying to get the site built up with more information.

If anyone has and old family Bible Records, letters, copies of land deeds, family stories that have been passed down, old post cards, family photos, school pictures, or any Sunbury County photos, it would be wonderful if you could forward either these to me by email or you can mail them to me and I will scan them and get them loaded to the site.

I am also looking for photos of Sunbury County war veterans.

I would also appreciate if anyone has any census records or old books that make reference to Sunbury County and our ancestors, that you would consider doing lookups for the Sunbury County site. Send me an email re what type of information that you have and I will post that along with your email address and what you have for reference material.

If anyone has any suggestions as what they would like to see on the site send me your ideas and I will see what I can do.

I am also looking for family genealogy pages on line that have Sunbury County ancestors - forward the links to me and I will add these to the site also.

Sunbury County is so rich in history I truly believe that there is alot of information that can be added to the site.

Sunbury County Born

I am hoping that someone may have access to some resource or have some knowledge of this individual.
Susan or Susanna Miller, according to her death certificate, was born in Sunbury County. She was born abt. 1823
By 1851 she was found living in the Parish of Kent, Carleton County, NB married to Jacob Bell, b. abt. 1815 Their oldest son I have record of was Jarvis Bell, b. abt.1839
Susan is buried in East Florenceville, Carleton County,NB. She died in 1898. Jacob died in Sept. 1880.
I am particularly interested in finding Susan's Parental line and where they were located, came from, etc.
There were many Miller families throughout York and Carleton Counties. Since Susan was already married in 1851 it is difficult to trace her family. Maybe someone has access to marriage records that may be of assistance. Its possible,Jacob may have come from Sunbury county as well.

Susan Miller Bell is the Great Grandmother to my Grandmother, Cora Tompkins who married James Hugh Miller.
Hope someone can help. Thank You.

WOOD ~ Loyalist Family in NB

I'm looking for information regarding the surname Wood in Sunbury Co. ... specifically, one Frank Wood(s) of French Lake, Sheffield Parish. This man was a veteran of the Boer War and WW1 and WW2, in which he served as a guard at the POW Camp in Ripples, NB with my grandfather, Ernest Colwell. They may have been related.

There was a "Francis" & Anne Wood in Hampstead Parish, Queens Co., who had a daughter, Margaret b. Dec 1, 1827. According to Marriage Records held at PANB, Margaret Wood married Samuel Colwell, father of Ernest, in January, 1854. Possible connection?

James E. Smith

Hi, I'm looking for information on James E. Smith (1825- 1886) buried Douglas Rural cemetery listed on the 1881 York census, Douglas parish (Div. 1) and his first wife Jane Dibblee (1823-1864) buried Burtts Corner Cemetery Douglas Parish. I am a direct descendent of their son Herman and his first cousin Ida A. Jones, daughter of James and Margaret (Dibblee) Jones of Petersville parish, Queens co. There appears to be no record of James & Jane in York co. before 1855 (burial of daughter Charlotte). Jane Dibble and a Leveritt Smith were witnesses to the marriage of Jane's sister Margaret & James Jones on Sept 4, 1845 in Greenwich. I am wondering if perhaps my James E. could be a child of James Elliot Smith who married Phoebe Griffith in 1818 near Hampstead. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.
Mary Ellen
