Elmwood Cemetery Lookup - Ballard

Attempting to find more information on Robert M Ballard and his wife Ann Carroll who are listed in the 1851 Census of Moncton and the 1861 Census of Dorchester Parish. The 1881 Census lists the widow Anne Bollard living in Moncton next to her brother William Carroll.
William Carroll is buried at Elmwood Cemetery, Moncton.
Can someone check to see if Robert and Ann Ballard were also buried in Elmwood ? Their oldest son James Ballard died 1 July 1880 at Moncton.

Church/Cemetery Records - Where are they?

Hello all,

Many of my ancestors are buried in the cemeteries of various Baptist and United Baptist churches. Are there typically burial records available for these cemeteries? What if the church no longer appears to be in use?

For example, my ggg-grandparents, John Brown & Martha Lutz, are buried in the Boundary Creek cemetery, as are a few of their children. I haven't been able to find any contact details for the church and I don't think it's in use anymore. Do their records still exist anywhere?

Cheers,
Mark Brown
Quispamsis, NB

Hi Folks,

Still trying to get past 1840 with my Thompson line in the vicinity of Sackville New Brunswick. Have read the books, have searched the P.A.N.B, LDS, and a myriad of boards. Stuck at Jacob Thompson (supposedly born 1818) who married Ruth Lund in Sackville in 1840. They had 13 Children that married into the families listed above.

If anything looks familiar, please drop me a line.

Bob

Hi there, I am searching for an ancestor of mine. She was in the 1911 census of New Brunswick - listed as a Servant in Shediac in the home of Mr. Louis Weldon. She was born in PEI, daughter of John Heckbert and Nancy Ann Reid Heckbert. She was married to Edward Rayner in PEI, Levi Clark in Moncton and then James Nelson Tarris/Terris in Moncton. James died in 1907 and left his estate to his sister and her husband so we think they were estranged at the time of his death. If anyone has any leads as to where one could look for date and place of death, it would be appreciated. She was listed as Methodist if that is of any help. Thanks in advance for any help.

He was married to Ruth Tingley and had three children, George, Harris, and Mary. There are various family trees existing showing Martin as the son of Henry Coates Chapman, however the son of HCC was born in 1834 and died in 1860 at the age of 26 and is buried in Chapman Settlement Cemetery.
One possibility is that Martin's father was also a Martin Chapman b 24 Mar 1773 d 1837 that married Mary Sayre but I can not find any information on this family to confirm or deny.
If you have any leads for me they are appreciated.

Thanks,

Rod Chapman

I am searching for information on Rosewell Wallace Mills and his wife Isabella Mills who lived in Lewisville. Rosewell was a blacksmith. They had a son Frederick Mills born in June 3, 1875. I would like to know date of birth and death of both parents. I have not been able to find anything in the New Brunswick Provincial Archives about them. I found an obituary for a Margaret Mills who died September 4, 1926 (Westmorland) and think she is a relative.

On the Westmorland County rootsweb site there is an article about the history of Port Eligin - Melrose parish that names a James FITZPATRICK (page 4) as one of the first settlers of Melrose (Emigrant Road). Does anyone have any information about this man and his family? I am still hitting a brick wall on the parentage of my ggg-grandfather John FITZPATRICK who is mentioned on page 9 as being the first Catholic to settle in Port Elgin in 1850.

Any suggestions on how to track down information on this James Fitzpatrick to try and see if there is a connection? Her family moved to the Moncton area sometime before the death of her father in 1886. Mary appears in the 1891 census with her mother and brother in Moncton City, where it appears her mother had a boarding house.

Mary FITZPATRICK married Edward DONLAN (b. 14 Sep 1860 Lancashire, England)in Westmorland County (probably in Moncton) 14 Jun 1897. They appear in the 1901 census in Windsor, Hants County, NS with a daughter Mary, aged 2. I have been unable to locate them in the 1911 census. Mary is mentioned in the death notice of my GG grandfather who died in 1916, as surviving him and being a resident of Moncton. After that, I hit a wall. Can not find anything further on this line.

Are there any Moncton area cemetery indexes anyone could refer me to that I could check for them in? Lawrence/Westmoreland Co. area. Am seeking info on daughters of George, one of whom (1771-1839) may have married William Martyn Oulton (1770-1845), son of Charles Oulton of Point De Bute. Connection is theory: George's son Ralph named a daughter Mary Oulton Forster, and we know of no other connection to the family.
Any info is greatly appreciated!

Can anyone help with information on this William H. Smith. We have had trouble identifying a Jennie Smith that married a Sidney Brownell. New Brunwick Provinical Archives, Daniel Johnson's Newspaper Statistics, Daily News, Saint John, July 5, 1882: "m. 30th ult., at the residence of the bride's father, by Rev. A. Kinney, Miss Jane Smith / Sidney Brownell, all of Lewisville, Moncton Parish." Note: new name of Jane Smith, not Jennie Smith. 1881 Census only lists one Jane Smith in Moncton Parish. She was in the family of William H. Smith and Sarah Smith. Jennie (Smith) Brownell is buried in Sackville as Jennie Brownell. Also Lewisville was a village until it was incorporated into Moncton.
Any help is appreciated in moving one of my "brick walls" back another generation. One brick at a time!!!

Thanks, ccfjr

Matthias Sommer/Summer/Somers' Children's birthdates

Many are familiar with Matthias Sommer and his wife Christiana/Christina Null who came with their 6 children to settle in Monckton Township in 1766 along with 4 other families under contract with John Hughes of Philadelphia, and 3 other families under other contracts.
Their 6 children are nicely listed in chronological order of age from oldest to youngest in an original 1766 document reproduced in Les Bowser's "In Search of Heinrich Stief":

1) Anna Catharina Summer
2) Efa. Salmy Summer [aka Eva Magdalena Sommer or Sarah Somers]
3) Christiana Summer [aka Christina Somers who later married Henry Jones aka Heinrich Schantz]
4) Sophia Summer
5) Andrew Summer
6) Rekena Summer [aka Regina Sommer aka Rachel Somers]

My question is regarding their birthdates and specifically regarding Christina Somers birthdate. The most reliable dates are for Anna Catharina (Oct 10, 1750), Eva Magdalena (Feb 6, 1753) and Rachel Somers (Jan 31, 1764). Andrews birthdate was estimated by some as 1761 and Sophia has been estimated as 1758 on internet sources but with no verifiable documents at this time. Christina's birthdate was estimated by some as 1762 or 1763 but this is inconsistent with her position in the family listing.
Does anyone have some more precise birthdate information?
Thanks.

Does anyone have any information about Sarah Crossman, born about 1855, daughter of James and Jane(Bickerton)Crossman of Dorchester, Westmoreland, N.B. Sarah was married to Stephen Kent May 13, 1873 in Amherst, Nova Scotia, they had two sons George and Stephen. Her husband died in a workplace accident on July 8, 1878 in Amherst.(He was the son of Stutley(or Stukely) and Elizabeth(Worden)Kent. Sarah and Stephen's youngest son (Stephen) was given up for adoption to James and Helen Allen in 1880(renamed Arthur Allen). Sarah and son George were living with her widowed mother-in-law on the 1881 Nova Scotia Census in Amherst. On the 1891 NS Census, only George is still living with Elizabeth Kent and I have not been able to find if Sarah remarried or if she died. Sarah's husband Stephen is buried with his parents but I have found no record indicating that Sarah is buried there too. (Sarah is the granddaughter of David and Sarah(Wry)Crossman and the great granddaughter of Samuel and Alice(Potter)Crossman). We believe Sarah's son George moved to the States in adulthood. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Butler

I am trying to track down information on the family of Michael and Sarah Butler that are listed in the 1851 Census, Botsford parish on page 6. The census information is causing me some confusion.

According to the actual image, under date of entry, for Michael Butler it has birth, but in the index for this year (available at the library put out by the Provincial Archives)it states year of entry 1820. Michael Butler is also listed in the index to Irish Immigrants for the census of 1851 (again put out by the Provincial Archives) as having arrived in 1820. How do I find out which record is the correct one?

I had done a search of this site, and found a thread from 2003 about this family. The reply referred the original poster to the book A History and Story of Botsford. I was able to see the entry for the Butler's(page 59), and this book places his arrival at 1835. With the exception of two names that are listed in the book, that are not included in the census, and two daughters listed in the census that are not included in the book, these names match up. Other then this book and the 1851 census, I can not find anything else on the Butler's of this area to tell me when and if they all stayed in the area, anything about marriages, death, nothing. Is there anyone that can help me, or give me a nudge where to look for their family information? I would really appreciate it.

Thanks alot,

arewerelated2007@yahoo.com

Timothy Horsman, son of Timothy Horsman and Rachel Somers, born 1838 in New Brunswick, broke his leg, never saw a doctor and had one leg four inches shorter than the other the rest of his life. Does anybody know anything about this Timothy Horsman? Hope to hear from someone. Thanks.

They operated a general store on Dorchester Island that they bought from Mary's father, Joe Sayre. Martin and Mary had six children by the 1820 census and likely had a seven child, Martin b 1821. Martin Sr drowned in the Bay of Fundy in 1825. Martin Sr also was a joiner and likely worked at ship building in Dorchester.

I'm looking for information about the parents of Frank Hicks (who married Hattie Maie Wheaton).

On the 1911 Census, it appears to list "Pheobe Hicks" as his mother, living with him after she was widowed. I cannot seem to locate a woman by this name in the 1901 census. Other information I have found on various websites seem to conflict. Some sources list his parents as Charles Louis Hicks/Mahaleth Humphrey, or as Titus/Cynthia Hicks. Still other sources appear to indicate that Frank was adopted and had been born with the surname "Bangs."

I have not found and answers in the Midgic Cemetary records or the familysearch.org information about the 1881 census.

Any assistance you can give me (or places to search further) would be greatly appreciated!
