I have been trying for years to find a birth record for George F Sewall, born Fredericton, Canada 5 Dec 1819. Later moved to Orono, Maine and married Louise Call of Milford.

Today I came across some New Brunswick Probate Records which speak of a "William Sewell, trader, of Frederickton."
Wonder if this could be George's father. Spellings a bit different but it varies from one record to the next so I'm not put off by that.

Can anyone help me? Either do a look up for me or give me suggestions of where to go to find a birth or baptismal record from 1819.

I have come across a George Sewall born in 1818 but that doesn't appear to be the same person.

Can anyone help me? I have just learned that my great uncle Samuel Maycock is buried in Seymour Memorial Cemetery in York County. He died on 26th May 1903, aged 13. He was a home child and arrived in Halifax in 1901 aboard the Sicilian. Does anyone know where details of cause of death could be found? His brother Arthur would have been 15 at the time - he was also a home child and sailed with Samuel.

Thank you

I'm trying to confirm the ancestry of a Bernard McCann, born about December 1835 in Harvey and married to Agnes Lister. He often went by the nickname Barney.

His son was David Edward, and possibly many others -- Nicholas, Fred, Bernard, John, James -- daughters may have included Margaret, Eva, Mary, others....

I found one census entry from 1851 that indicates his father may have been Arthur McCann from Ireland.

Does anyone know any information (in particular if Arthur is his father)? Our family had thought that Bernard was the one who was straight off the boat, but most records seem to indicate it must have been a prior ancestor.

Thanks for any info you have on this family.
-Ginger

There were two Alexander Godin baptized in Kingclear NB in 1842. They are about 8 months apart in age. Their baptisms are on the same page in Kingclear parish book. One Alex parents are Augustine Godin and Victoria Martin and the other Alex parents are Alexander Godin and Rosalie Mazerolle. They are both in the 1861 census. Is there a 1871 census in NB? Does anyone have any info about either Alexander? I have the Alexander and Rosalie couple in my tree but someone in my family makes me question my choose of this couple.
Patty
WILKINS / NEAL couple in Canterbury in 1861

Hello. I'd just like to say that I am still interested in the family of my ancestors: George Freeman WILKINS and Mary Ann NEAL. George was born ~1815 in or near Unity, Maine, and Mary was born ~1818 in New Brunswick. They married ~1837 in or near Amity, Maine. They had 10 children, and I am descended from their daughter, Clarissa.

I know a little about the family of Samuel WILKINS and Electra "Leeta" ____, who were probably married ~1800 - somewhere ! They were in the 1810, 1820, and 1830 census in Unity, Maine, and moved to Amity, Maine, shortly after.

(I actually am finding out a little bit more about the couple who I believe is Samuel's parents. My "educated guess" is that they are William WILKINS and Sarah BANCROFT from Middleton, MA. They moved to "Maine" in 1770's and that is when Samuel was born. I am hoping that he was their 7th child (3 died young, possibly more).) (Sarah's father, Robert BANCROFT, was reportedly a Native American from the Ponkapoag Tribe in Canton, MA, US. Her mother was Elizabeth PICKETT, and her parents had ties to "the Mayflower" through the BREWSTER name.)

One of my "brick walls" is finding out who Mary Ann NEAL's parents were. There were NEAL or NEIL families in N.B. and N.S., but we cannot tie Mary to them.

That's all I'll say for this morning.

Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA)

P.S.

On the same large branch of my family-tree, I have another female ancestor who I cannot trace: Lucy McDANIEL / McDONALD who was born ~1810 in New Brunswick. She married in Lubec, Maine, to Daniel RICE. They had 10 children, and I am descended from their youngest, Charles RICE, b1870.

Charles married a woman from Winchester, MA, and they had 2 daughters. Louise and Edith were probably visiting their father's family in Lubec, Maine, when they met George KIDDER. George and Louise married in Princeton, Maine, but came down to Winchester to live. George's parents were Joseph KIDDER and Clarissa WILKINS - the lady mentioned above.

Samuel Boone was captured by the American side at the Battle of St George's Manor, Long Island, and imprisoned in Pennsylvania, as shown below. (His daughter Hannah Boone's husband was John Franklin, the man making the inquiry.)
The plaque at the site reads: "Under orders of General George Washington, two companies of the Second Continental Light Dragoons, commanded by Major Benjamin Talmadge attacked and destroyed Fort St George and captured the British garrison at this place on November 23, 1780."

I would love to hear the rest of the story, but find nothing on the net.

Did this Samuel Boone come to New Brunswick?

1781	"Hazard's Corps of Refugees: Boone Inquiry
William Ellery Esq. Delegate from the State of Rhode Island to Congress is desired by his humble servt. John Franklin to make strict enquiry to find out whether Mr. Samuel Boone Senr. is yet living as last fall he was taken at George's manner on Long Island by Major Talmadge a refugee prisoner and Conveyed to Lancaster in Pennsylvania.
I desire at all events that it may be known as my Wife is his daughter and she is very uneasy to know where her mislead Father is.
If dead it is desired that it may be certified properly."
I have new information regarding the families surround the Early Bain's in York County, My relationship connecting Alexander Bain and George Bain could still be plausible but this information doesn't make it or break it, bt it does confirm George Bain was born in Inverness Scotland, and moved to Woolwich England with his father?? If anyoen with ties to the 42nd HRH let me know if the soldiers may have done training in England then this connection I have is still plausible , let me know. This information also shows while in England we dropped the Mc off of McBean, and became Bean, then became Bain once moved here to sound more English

I am looking for information on Robert Emery Belyea, often listed on Census as Emery Robert Belyea, he was married to Simone Belyea and Marguerite Short (m.1925) and lived common-law with my grandmother Marion Nellie Swerdfeger. We knew her as Nellie Belyea.
Robert Emery Belyea had 4 kids from Marguerite: Ronald, Phyllis, Claude Burpee ("Duke"), and Shirley. He had 2 kids with Marion Nellie: Raymond Henry and Gloria Jean. We are not sure if he has kids from his first wife but I am looking into that.
My grandfather asked my grandmother to take his first wife's name (simone belyea) for reasons unknown, and so she went by Simone Belyea for awhile too. Actually I believe that Marion Nellie Swerdfeger was known by many names. Not sure if she was previously married.
My uncle's and aunt's are buried in Rockland cemetery, well all but 3 of the 6 kids. The dead one's are Ronald, Phyllis, Claude Burpee. The living ones are Shirley, Raymond and Gloria.

Robert's mother is Dora Mildred Parent and unknown father. grandparents are James Parent and Annie Hay.

Any info on my family would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

ELEANOR (ELLEN) _____ (b. ca. 1816 (ca. 1821 by headstone), d. 14JAN1861 age 40 years, bur. Burtt’s Corner Community Cem., York Co., NB.)

4. SAMUEL F. BOONE b. 17SEP1823 (ca. 1823-4), m. York Co., NB 21JUN1848 TEMPERANCE JONES (b. ca. 1827.)
5. SARAH BOONE b. 5SEP1827 (ca. 1826), m. SAMUEL HAINES (b. ca. 1822), possibly s/o Robert and Amy (Gallop) Haines.

For example, Samuel F.
This is a total longshot, but I am trying to track down the daughter of Harry Ilsley EVANS and Dorothy Keith LOWE. All that I have to go on is that she married a John C. SMITH and was living in Fredericton at the time of her father's death in 1965.

Originally from New Brunswick, she would have been born sometime after 1924. I don't even have a first name for her, as she is only listed as Mrs. John C. SMITH in her father's death notice. Hoping maybe she is still alive, or she has descendants that are, and are researching and come across this. I know, long shot!

Thanks

Birthplace unknown. He married Bessie Ryan who later became Bessie Ryan Mooers. Where was Malcolm born and when and where did he die?

Frank was born in 1875 in Queensbury Parish. Frank married Maggie Pickard. When and where did Frank die?

I have been seeking this information for about ten years and have been in touch with every Corey researcher I can find. Maybe I will find someone through this who has the answers to these questions.

Wright family of Canterbury

Hello all,

First post on this board and the Ancestry Community.

I have been researching one of the Wright families of York County New Brunswick. I must say that it has been frustrating. Just when you think you have broken down a brick wall, even more questions emerge that make you doubt your previous research.

My family centers around Charles WRIGHT who was born abt 1821, most likely in York County, but there is an outside chance it could have been Maine.

His first marriage is a slight point of contention. At one point, it seemed he married Mary MILLER, of York County, but a professional researcher uncovered information that it was more than likely Mary Jameison, and indeed that marriage has more factual basis, having actually been registered in the York County marriage registrar, 1837-1850.

Land records show the Wrights and Jameisons to be neighbors, which supports, but the Millers were also living close by.

Way too many Wrights, Charles and Marys.

In any case, Mary, whether Miller Or Jameison, died in 1865, leaving Charles with Uriah, Hugh, Frederic and Mary as children. What is undisputed is that Charles married again, this time to Jane McNALLY and had eight other children.

Jane McNALLY's parents were William McNally and Lydia Estey, both of York County, NB.

By 1880, this family had moved from York County to the Houlton, Maine area and some to Bartlett, NH.

I am looking to correspond to anyone who thinks they might have a connection to this family. My main focus is to find the parents of Charles Wright. The only candidate I have is A Joseph H. Wright, who was 57 years old at the time of the 1851 census of Dumfries(later Canterbury), making him the only living Wright to be old enough to be the father.

Any help appreciated.

G. Wright

In March of 1846 George Dougherty, James Dougherty, Charles Dougherty and Mery Dougherty gave a quit claim deed to William Donovan being the same lands granted in a petition of 1842 of James Doherty and others. The land was located in Howard Settlement ( now Canterbury ) in York County. Does anyone have info on this Dougherty / Doherty family.
I believe George Dougherty may be the same person as George Dogherty who later was granted land in Carroll Ridge, York County in 1871.

White of Douglas Parish

I have looked at this family, no White unexplored.

Agnes' brother George White (Jan 24, 1823 Scotland-December 1906 ae 83) married as his 2nd wife, Margaret Richards, whose sister, Isabel Richards also married a George P. White, born Scotland.

I am the descendant of Isabel and that George White, who married April 6, 1854 in Douglas Parish,

So, two sisters, who each married a George White, and not the same one, so far as I can tell.

In the 1860 Maine census, my George P. White was in Township #7, Range 2, near Kossuth (the nearest post-office address), Washington County, Maine: George White 30, common laborer, born Scotland, real estate $150, personal estate $100; wife 25, + 4 children.
This nay be him: 1861-65 US Civil War. (Private) George P. White, of Maine, Union soldier, 14th Regiment, Maine Infantry Company D,E M543 roll 23.
In 1868, Isabel(la) and children returned to NB.
In 1881, she was a widow.

There is another trace of a White family: Agnes's sister,Margaret Elizabeth White, married, as his 2nd wife,George Thomas Ward, whose mother was Barbara Temple White, who I think was a sister of John White (they both emigrated from Scotland 1832), of Cardigan Road (husband of Jane Wilson MacIntosh), and of Jane White (did not marry).
My George may be a part of this family, but I have no more information than that he was 30 in 1860.

I would be very pleased if you could add to what I know of Agnes White's parents. This is what I have found so far:
1834	October, They emigrated to NB
1851	Douglas, He, 58, farmer/prop; wife 50, 5 children (4, 13, 18, 20, 27).
1861	Douglas, near sons George & Peter White. Presbyterian, Farmer; + lodger James Wilson, 50, born Ireland.
1874	September 10. d. Gibson Station, York Co., George White of Bird Settlement, age 81.

Of Andrew Campbell, (thanks to Daniel Johnson)
1863	His 1st marriage: m. by Rev. G. Stirling, at residence of the bride, Andrew Campbell / Miss Jane Perley, all of Keswick Ridge.
d/o Nathaniel [Solomon, Asa, Thomas, Thomas, Allan] Perley & Deborah Coburn. She died one month after marrying.

Cordially,
JRW

I have just entered the ancestry arena. I am very new to this and slowly working my way through the system. I am trying to trace my family history back on my dad's side. His name was James Mazerall. His parents were Francis Mazerall and Mary Ann Mackenzie. If I am on the correct track, his grandparents would be Francis Mazerall (born in 1843) and Maria Hammond (born in 1851). I am having a bit of a problem going beyond that. It looks as if the spelling of the last names may be different for Mazerall. I am not yet sure how to confirm that, and don't want to make a mistake and be chasing the wrong ancestors. Any help getting started would be much appreciated. Thanks to all in advance.

Tom

I need help, my grandfather Thomas L. Brown was married to Lydia Parsons in New Brunswick. They had 10 children, Roy, Lillian, Otis, Neuman, Mabel, Florence, Beulah, Helen and 2 others. When my grandfather died in the 1970's or 80's, he had an obit in a newspaper which listed his oldest daughter Lillian and 5 other children. My mother said that he had a mistress in another town and had these 5 children in addition to her siblings. I would love to hear from any of those children and would like to have a copy of that obit. He was born 6 Mar. 1892. He never divorced Lydia and was a railroad man. If ANYONE has any info. I sure would appreciate it. BTW Nelson Moses was his father and George was his grandfather who immigrated from England. Thanks

Looking for Evans Descendants

I am trying to track down the the descendants of Lt.-Col. Harry Ilsley Evans and Dorothy Keith (Lowe) Evans.

Harry Ilsley Evans was born in Hampton, Kings County, New Brunswick on 24 Jul 1895 to Edwin George Evans and Lillian Blanche Fowler. He died at the Victoria Public Hospital 12 Apr 1965 and was buried in the family plot in the Hampton Rural Cemetery, Hampton, Kings County, New Brunswick. According to his death notice, he was well known in Fredericton and Oromocto as the first chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the town of Oromocto, a post he retired from in 1961. When he died in 1965, he was survived by his Dorothy, who was living in Oromocto, and four daughters; Mrs. Harry Burroughs of Santurce, Puerto Rico, Mrs. W.G. Colbourne of Windsor, Ontario, Mrs. John C. Smith of Fredericton, and Mrs. George E. Crowe of Oswego, New York. He was also survived by eight grandchildren. I have no idea what the names of his daughters were or which of them had children and their names.

According to his wife Dorothy's headstone, found in Hampton Rural Cemetery, she died in 1993, but unfortunately, that is all I know about her death. I have no actual date for her. Dorothy was born circa 1898 in New Brunswick, and they were married 4 Nov 1923 in Saint John, Saint John County, New Brunswick.

If any of this looks familiar to anyone out there, I would love some help please. I have hit a wall with this branch of my family tree, and would love to be able to find some information on any of their descendants.

Thanks in advance.

arewerelated2007@yahoo.com

Have a list of Grantees and have dug into books attempting to track the Highlanders. Let me know what you need by Email and Ill try to help.
There's a rumor that our side came second in the war but I assume that it's only propaganda.

Hi,

In my research I noticed that a William Anderson Jr (Douglas Parish) married a Jane Lyons from Harvey Settlement Kingsclear Parish in St Ann's Chapel on
April 2, 1850 by Rev W.Q.Ketchum. This was published on April 6, 1850 in the Fredericton newspaper called the Quarters. I was wondering if anyone could tell me who this Jane Lyons is.

Secondly,

On April 2,1857, there was a marriage between James Lyons and ____ Anderson in Christ's Church Cathederal Fredericton NB. Wittnesses to the wedding were Alexander Lyons (perhaps my great great grandfather or my great grandfathers brother, but he would only have been 17 at the time) and Charles Foster.

Thanks

Stu Lyons
Hello All,

I have started a new message board on ancestry.com under the surname COHOLAN. The name was also sometimes spelled as Coughlan or Coughlin. He emigrated to Cork Settlement, York county, New Brunswick in the 1840's. His wife was Johanna Connors, b. abt. 1807 in Ireland. Known children of Jeremiah Coholan and Johanna Connors born in New Brunswick include:
Honora b. abt. 1840
Daniel b. abt. 1841
Mary b. abt. 1843
Elizabeth b. abt. 1844
John b. Dec. 1848
Catherine b. abt. 1851
I do now know whether they had other children in Ireland.

Jeremiah and his family were among the first settlers of Cork Settlement, New Brunswick http://www.colleenkennedy.com/Genealogy/CorkSettlement/

Jeremiah Coholan died 8 Mar 1869 in Cork Settlement, York County, NB. His daughter, Mary, married my g-grandfather, Martin James Kennedy 11 Nov. 1865 in York county, NB.

I am trying to determine the townland of Jeremiah's birth in county Cork. I would be pleased to exchange information with others tracing these Coholan's/Coughlin's/Coughlan's and the Kennedys.

Looking for any descendents and/or information for Timothy Kehoe (born Wexford, 1797) and Bridget Gallagher Kehoe, born Ireland. Both are buried in St. Dunstan's old cemetery in Fredericton, Bridget in 1849 and Timothy in 1855 or 1856. Their children, born 1830-1846, were Margaret Ann, Philip, Denis, James, Timothy, Henry, John, Daniel, and Patrick. We have family trees for Margaret Ann and Denis, but no definite information on the other children and their descendents. The family had an inn and a small shipyard, as well as a small farm, in the Oromocto area. Some of their property bordered on the Oromocto River in Lincoln. I believe the inn and shipyard were on the St. John River where the amphibious training site is now.

Watts and Chapman in Douglas Parish (early 1900's)?

Hello,

George Chapman and his wife, Mary Ann (nee Watts), can be found in the 1901 census living in Douglas Parish (I think in Nashwaaksis but not 100% certain). Living with them is Mary Ann's brother, William H. Watts.

William passed away in 1911, George and Mary Ann passed away in 1913. William's probate/will indicated that Mary Ann was his only living relative (assume this meant siblings).

Would anyone know who were William and Mary Ann's parents? No luck yet with newspaper obituaries for these two and the death record for Mary Ann at the archives does not indicate the parents name (there is no death record that I could find for William - just a short obit in the Fredericton Daily Gleaner).

There is a family of Watts in Johnston, Queens County (they can be found in the 1861 census) - parents were Samuel and Sarah Watts (nee Little) and they did have a son named William and a daughter named Mary but I have not found any connection between these Watts and the ones that died in the Nashwaaksis area just after 1911.

Hoping maybe a Chapman researcher might have some additional info OR maybe a Watts researcher (I think there were other Watts' families in the area).

Regards,
Jerry

I have come across some new information on my Taylor family in the past week. I am still trying to find the area in New Brunswick where the originally were from and any other information. It here goes:

Henry Taylor was married to Rosanna unknown. The information on Henry Taylor came from his daughter's Rosanna Haines death cerficate. Rosanna was born about 1802 in Scotland according to U.S. census records. Henry was born in England according to U.S. census.
Rosanna came to Santa Cruz County around 1876. She died on September 28,1886 in Santa Cruz, California.

Known children of Henry and Rosanna:

Robert Taylor born about 1831 married Louisa(Lydia) Fulmer in Dushore,PA. He died on December 8, 1893 in Woodside, San Mateo, California.

Rosanna Taylor born May 5, 1842. She was married to Edward Haines who was born March 3, 1847 in Douglas, York, New Brunswick. Rosanna died on June 6, 1928 in Watsonville, Santa Cruz, California.

Allen Taylor born about 1846 and was married to Mary Ann Fulmer(sister of Louisa(Lydia)Fulmer) in Dushore, Sullivan, Pennsylvania. They married July 3, 1871. Allen Taylor died September 24, 1898 in Boulder Creek, Santa Cruz, California.

Margaret Taylor born about 1848. Was married to unknown Boyle. By the 1880 U.S. census, her husband had already died. Rosanna Taylor was living with her in Santa Cruz on the 1880 census. Margaret Taylor Boyle died April 2, 1899 in Santa Cruz, California.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Margaret
