I have a fairly extensive tree for the Collins of New Harbour/Shoe Cove/Cobbler's Island/Hare Bay/Dover... but I can't place these two couples (or maybe one couple).

I am looking for all families connected to the Oldford family through marriage prior to 1900. I am specificaly interested in the trees of these families back to their original roots and arrival in Newfoundland. In return I have quite an extensive tree of Oldfords back to 1700's, that has connections to many families including:
Ralph, Arnold, White, Brown, Lane, Dyke, Hunter, Critchley and Hapgood.
Also I would like to hear if anyone has information of Oldford or Holford's arrival in Newfoundland or English connection.

Can anyone help me to find the baptism of Thomas Newell at the Summerville Catholic Church in Bonavista Bay. This would around the 1870s or 1880s. The church whose photograph appears on the Newfoundland banks site was built by Thomas newell, but there must have been an earlier one there. I am desperately searching the newell history in the Summerville area for Thomas' son who now lives in England and who was 80 years old this year. Is there anyone out there who can help, please - I would willingly do look ups in England in return. Many thanks

I have tons of inforamtion on Francis Stokes and Hannah Keans family. I do have missing links whick could help tie the Stoeks group together. Francis, Thomas, Malachi, John and possibly margaret sho up in Cape Island , Cape Freels all about he same time.Given the fact that there were only about 4 to 7 houses and about 66 people living there at the time and the Stokes ' were the only family living in Middle Bill Cove at that time, it is safe to assume that these people were related or at the very least lived with each other. The marriage list for that time shsed some light onwho was living there at that time.
1832 Arthur Roberts married Mary Bundle of Bonavista
1834 Francis Stokes marrried hannah Kean of flowers Island
1837 Jonas Humphry (Noterbury ,, Dorset, England married Susannah Ridout
1839 Renny Ridout married Robert Burry of Newell's Island.
1839 John Ridout (a widower)married Anne Collins a widow from Cobblars Island. ( Her husband was Richard adn they had a Daughter Anne Collins)
1840 Thomas Stokes married MargaretRodeout
1843 Alfred Gotten (later Gaulton) married Margaret Stokes.

these names gives you some idea of who was possibly living in the 4-7 house that were in Cape FReels

Anyone with inforamtion that would shed some light on this would be of great help.

Margaret was a school teacher. I think William was born in wexford Ireland. But I might have that wrong, it may have been William's father that was born in Ireland.
The Long's last name was really Furlong but was changed when they came to Newfoundland.

I think that William and Margaret were born in the 1800's or maybe even the early 1890's.
William's faimly I was told was well known in the area because they had a fishing industry.
Any help finding information out about either one would be wonderful because I'm really stuck.

Judge is a very rare surname in Nfld., and almost all over past 200 years are related to me. Therefore I am compiling a family tree on ALL families named JUDGE who are in any way connected to Nfld. at any time.So far I have 60 pages. Please email me if you have any connection via ancestry, marriage, etc.,or know of someone else who does. Of course I already have information that is easily available on the net.Any obscure net findings welcome. Happy to share information,of course.
My own Placentia Bay branch is descended in part (my part) from Mary Ellen Miller,of Indian, presumably Mi'Kmaq) descent, who married my GGF,Patrick Judge in 1857 or before. So very much want information on this Miller family also. Her name possibly spelled Elin Miller.
Thanks.Ward. wardgreene@hotmail.com

They were from ireland originally. We also know that Clarence was reported to be a carpenter of great ability. If you have heard of this line, or know where i can find some information please contact me.
My boyfriend Claude is in his late 80's and has decided he must know about his family history on fogo island.

Notes from the Admin

This is just a quick note to introduce myself as the new Admin of this board, and also to let everyone know that we now have a companion mailing list on RootsWeb just created this week. Simply put, this means any post put on this board now goes through the gateway to the list as well. If you would like to subscribe to the list, please click on the following link for directions on how to do so:

http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/CAN/CAN-NF-BONAVISTA-BA...

As you might expect from something so new, the list is very "low-volume" at the moment, but I hope we can change that in the future. If you have any genealogical or historical information to share that is related to the topic here, please post it and let's see if we might spur a little bit of activity, and in the process share some information with some friends you may never have met yet.

I will be looking forward to meeting and working with all of you in the future. Do drop me a line at any time, but please understand that I do not have the time or resources to respond to personal queries, although you will see me do so on the list and/or board as often as time and personal knowledge allow.

David
List/Board Admin

James was supposedly born in N.Bonavista Bay in 1907, apparently he lived in Safe Harbor as a boy and worked in Corner Brook as an adult. I cannot find any information about his parents. Rumor had it, James might have been an only child and his father may have been raised by another family besides the Pelley's. If anyone has any information it would be very helpful
