Hodder

I see there are a ton of Hodder's mentioned in this section and if I am posting in the wrong area let me know (but I saw no Hodder info in Conception Bay.....)
Anyway, I am trying to see if my great great grandfather Henry Hodder is indeed the son of William and Amelia Hodder of Grates Cove. My Henry was born approx 1858 in Nfld, married Jessie Gooby in 1884 in St. Johns West and had 3 children: William James (1888 -bef. 1891) Amelia Jane (b. Feb 1891) and Walter (b. July 1893). Through census records on ancestry.com I have placed Henry in N.S. in 1891 living with his wife and daughter, and his brother William Hodder and sister Elizabeth Hodder. In the 1911 census for N.S., William was no longer living with him, but his sister Maria Palmer (widow) and her two sons William and Henry were living with him. So, I see he has or had at least 3 siblings. I found baptismal records through Bay de verde Anglican on Newfoundland Grand Banks website that included Henry (bapt. Dec 1860) and William James (bap. 7 Aug 1870) being born to a "William and Amelia of Grates". There was also a Maria Hodder born to them, bap. 1 Mar 1863, although the notes say " Eliza Ann is the right name, not Maria"; and Elizabeth Hodder born to Henry and Catherine Hodder of Grates, bap. 29 Mar 1863 though the notes say " This is the child of William amd Amelia", then lastly, a Maria Hodder to William and Amelia of Grates, bap. 3 Sep 1865. (A little confused by all that!). Anyway, I also found a record (on the same site) of a marriage between William Hodder and Amelia Jane Binson 9 MaY 1859 in Grates Cove. Giving the handing down of names and all other similarities, I am assuming I have the right family. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone out there? Am desperate for info!!

Laurie

My GG grandfather Samuel Pafford was married to a Sarah Shave and they resided on Long Island in Placentia Bay. They had three children: Thomas Samuel b:1849, William b:1850 and Mary Ann b: 1859. Samuel died circa 1862 while fishing and Sarah died around the same time. The children were raised by Sarah's sister in law in Harbour Buffett. Information given me indicates that all marriage and birth records were destroyed in a church fire. I would welcome ANY information relative to either Samuel or Sarah.
I am looking for information on the family of John H and Rebecca Julia nee Mayo Brewer and James Parsons families of the Burin area in Newfoundland. John Brewer was born 12/18/1883. Rebecca Julia nee Mayo was born 11/25/1883 and died 05/11/1923. They had a daughter Georgina Lillian born 07/18/1906 who married James Parsons born 11/20/1900. (Georgina) Lillian and James were my grandparents. My mother married a US soldier and brought me to the states as an infant and what little information I have been able to find came from my grandmother's family bible. James' mother was Alvina Parsons (unmarried)and I have no information on her parents. She later married George Moores and most of the family live in the Lewins Cove, Creston, Marystown area on the Burin Peninsula. I have found some basic information in the census available on http://ngb.chebucto.org/ but need to fill in some of the gaps. I would appreciate any help anyone might be able to provide. Thank you, Doris

CORBIN,Pike,Viscount,MILLER(Mi'Kmaq descent),WHIFFEN.

I'm looking for:
(1) John Corbin was listed as in the area in 1737. Another John Corbin, maybe his son, born about 1829. This John Corbin married (Mary ????)about 1778,at Argentia, and had son John Corbin Jr.
The middle John Corbin died in 1790s,and his widow married John GREEN(E) of Point Verde/Placentia and they became the ancestors of the huge Point Verde Greene clan. WHO WAS the WIDOW CORBIN ? Does anyone know?

(2) Pike family of St. Lawrence and then the branch(mine) that moved to Mount Carmel,Salmonier,SMB.

(3)Viscount. Looking for family tree for Mary Agnes Viscount, about 1885-1950).Any Viscount tree welcome as I think most would link up.Not a common name.

(4) My GG-GM was Amelia Whiffen, who married Patrick Walsh of Point Verde in 1850. Anyone know her family tree?

(5) My GGM,mother's side, was MARY ELLEN MILLER,possibly spelled ELIN or other way, probably born about 1836,probably at Port Royal(Mussel Harbor). She was of Mi'Kmaq(MicMac) descent or else similar native descent. She married my GGF,Patrick Judge on Placentia Bay(Red Island maybe ?) and they settled at Isle au Valen.
I have NOTHING on her or her family. Can anyone give me even a clue as to where to look? In the Argentia RC baptism records on the Red Island website, there is an Elin Miller born 1836 to Thos. Miller & Bridget Wise(Wyse)...does anyone know if there is a connection? Their other kids were(or included) Wm. Miller(1839) and Bridget Miller(1854).
Thanks to everyone for even reading this. I live in Australia and cannot do personal research over there. In case anyone is interested,I have about 180 pages of family tree on Point Verde Greenes,71 pages on Judge Families of Nfld.,and maybe 10 pages on Salmonier Pikes.Ward.wardgreene@hotmail.com

Wagg Family of Burin, Newfoundland

I am researching my family of Burin, Newfoundland. My ggg-grandfather was James Wagg born in Stepaside Nov. 8, 1842. He married Bridget Vigus. Their children were Richard, Robert (my gg-grandfather), Malvina, George & William. I have a lot of information on another James Wagg and his descendants (born in England late 1600s or early 1700s) who appear so far to be unrelated however also were in Stepaside in the 1800s. I welcome any information you can share.

Thanks, Carole (nee Wagg)

I am really trying to find my Mi'Kmaq ancestry great-grandmother,MARY ELLEN MILLER,who may have been from Port Royal(Mussell Harbor).I found an ELIN MILLER baptised in 1836 in Argentia RC records, parents THOMAS MILLER & BRIDGET WISE,sponsors John Moony(Mooney) and Hannah Walsh.
She had a brother WILLIAM MILLER born 1839, and sister BRIDGET MILLER born 1854(sponsors here Richard(?) Fippard and someone Collins.
Going by year only, there was a MARYANN MILLER born 1835,parents JOHN MILLER & ELIZABETH SAMON,sponsors Wm. Fling and Muria Benings. In later 1800s there is a Miller(Port Royal) marriage to a Bridget Culleton...and in my Judge family in 1837 I have a Judge/Culleton connection at a Red Island ceremony...and eventually Patrick Judge married my GGM,Mary Ellen Miller in 1858 or slightly before. I am hoping someone in all these surnames can see some Mi'Kmaq connections and maybe give me a few clues.I do NOT know if these Millers are my Millers, but I know Samon has Indian connections(the name),and my GGM Mary Ellen Miller was most likely from Port Royal. Someone must know of some Indian ancestry Millers in Burin Peninsula or PB. Thanks.Ward. wardgreene@hotmail.com

To compile a family tree,I need all information on St. Lawrence Pikes and connection to SMB families. My ancestor,William Pike, married Mary Tremblett, and their son, mf GGF,was JOHN GILBERT PIKE,probably born in St. Lawrence around 1835 era. Probably WILLIAM PIKE, born 1834 in St. Lawrence, was his brother.Wm. married Mary Costello in 1871,and John Gilbert Pike married Margaret Dinn on 1867, both at Salmonier, SMB.
Does anyone know EDMOND PIKE,1796-1860,buried at Salmonier? Does anyone know the connection to Harbor Grace ? Thanks.Ward. wardgreene@hotmail.com

Or if you know where there are records of Isle au Valen deaths, births, marriages, etc. I am looking at mid-1800s,say 1850 to 1881.They were in Red Island in 1830 era,but don't know when first in Isle au Valen. Of course, any photos of I-V you could share with me by email would be welcome,as I have nothing. Apparently their house was beside Grant's Pond .Thanks.Ward. wardgreene#hotmail.com

I'm looking for information about Kathleen Pike who was born in 1941 in Newfounland. Her mother's name was Kathleen Pike. She was adopted at age 3 by Ethel and George Harris from Frenchman's Cove or Garnish. She married George Green from Burin. She would love to know if her mother is still living or if she has any relatives. She was living in Manuels in a Mrs. Tucker's home when she was adopted. If anyone has any info on this, please email me. Kathleen has tried for so many years to find her mother and/or relatives. I hope that someone out there can help her. Thank you...............................Cliff

My ancestor,John Green, came from Boston about 1778,to Placentia, and with his brother Robert founded the modern Point Verde nearby. In the 1790's, his good friend John Corbin died, and John Green married the Widow Corbin, who thus became my ancestor. John had a brother Daniel, who is buried in Placentia Cemetery.
John Corbin and Mrs. Corbin also had a son John Corbin, also buried in Placentia.
Once Widow Corbin married John Greene, they had a fairly large family of their own.
There is a John Corbin ,died 1796,in Freshwater Cemetery. Is this the same John Corbin who married my ancestor, because the dates seem to slightly overlap?
His headstone erected by Philip Power...who is Philip Power...are there Power descendants who can help me?
What I most want to know is the maiden name of John Corbin's wife, the widow who married John Green, since of course she is my bloodline, not Corbin itself.
Thanks...Ward ### wardgreene@hotmail.com
