Hi Marilyn,
my grandfather was a Timothy Collins (1886 to 1945). His father was a John Collins (1860 to ??), while further back John's father was another Timothy Collins (1830 to 1895). That's as far back that I've been able to go. On the Planation records for Spaniard's Bay it shows another Timothy Collins has having land recorded during both 1796 and also 1805. The land record is the oldest connection that I've found of Collins's, however other records (census, marriages etc) for this same period I have not located. My own father John Collins (1922 to 2002) did speak of many Collins's owning land in Spaniards Bay area in the old days - in an area otherwise known as 'Backcove'. I lived in Spaniards Bay when I was young - the property was right on the Main Highway that goes thru town - it was property handed down thru a few generations of our family - right now there is a drug store on the property - at one point the drug store was owned by a Randy Collins. If you have received any more information about Collins's in Spaniards Bay, I would certainly appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks,
Paul Collins
