I am wondering if anyone has any information about the dodge families of Harbour Mille. I have info back to a Jeremiah Dodge born abt 1872. He is listed as living in Harbour Mille in the 1935 census but not in the 1921 census. I know his father's name was William Wilson Dodge but I am not having any luck finding anything about him.

Looking for info/pictures, etc. on Amos and Elizabeth Rogers, children: Florence, Dinah, Ely, Thomas L., Annabelle, Lorne all born in Fortune, Newfoundland, Immigrated to N. Sydney, Nova Scotia in 1903, most of the children and mother immigrated to Detroit, Michigan. I think Amos Died around 1925/26 because Elizabeth (wife) immigrated to Detroit in 1926. I think Amos is in Nova Scotia.

Thomas L. Rogers (b. 1900 Fortune, Newfoundland)is my grandfather and he married Maria Gaulton, also born in Fortune, Newfoundland, 1900. I can't find any records my Maria Gaulton. Found some on Amos' family in 1911 N. Sydney, Census.

Wells: Am researching the Wells (Wills) family. My grandfather was Cyril Wells from Dawson''s Cove(Sandyville). I've traced back my gg-grandfather John William Wells who was married to Sophia Wilmot and then to Robert Wells(via Dan Smith's site) who was married in the Ramea Mission in Burgeo. He was married to Mirium Crew. There is little info of Robert and Mirium.

Pardy: My grandmother is Alma Wells (nee Pardy) who is originally from Little Harbour East. She was the daughter of Jonas Pardy and Elsie Baker (Harbour Mille). I am looking for info on Elsie's parents. My grandmother says their names were Fred Baker and Elizabeth Jane Baker (nee ?)
And, Jonas Pardy's family..his father's name was Sabine Pardy, married to Elizabeth Pardy(nee ?). They had three sons Jonas (my g grandfather), Abel and Joy. Any info on them would be greatly appreciated.

Barnes from Hr Mille

The only two Barnes I have from Hr Mille are my Great Grandmother Margaret Jane Barnes born in Hr Mille, April 1852 and died in Grand Bank 25 May 1925. Her father was George Barnes from Hr Mille.
Different sources indicate that William and Ann Barnes moved in 1820 from Dorset, England to Hr Mille, Nl They were the first recorded residence of Hr Mille. I suspect that all of the Barnes of Hr Mille may be traced to this couple.

Looking for anyone who knows the Penney family of Tack's Beach, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland.

My Great Grandparents are James Penney b.1852 of Tacks Beach, Placentia Bay and Mary Ann Hynes b.1855 of Woody Island, Placentia Bay.

James and Mary Ann had 4 children - Leonard Penney b. 1887 Julia Ann Penney b. 1880 William Penney b. 12 May (drowned while lobster fishing) and John Albert Penney b. 1883.

My Grandparents are Leonard Penney b. 1887 of Blow Me Down, Conception Bay, Newfoundlandand and Matilda Anna Bolt b 1895 of Tack's Beach, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland. The family later resettled to Fortune Bay.

Children are: Julia, Edward(Ned), William (Bill) b. 1918, John Henry (b. 1912 d. 1975), Rachel Elizabeth (Bet), Peter Maxwell, Mary and Charles.

My mother was Mary Matilda Penney (b.1927 - d.2001)she married Israel Marshall Roach (b.1930) of Coley's Point.

Hello, I am trying to locate information regarding a Jacob BARNES born June 24 1889/1890 in Fortune Bay. He was at one time engaged to be married to an Annie Mason but enlisted in WW1 in Nova Scotia in 1915. In 1918 he married an English woman while in England. He returned to Canada by 1920. His wife died in Toronto giving birth to their 4th child. Jacob died in 1956. In Toronto he went by the name George. His attestation papers list his next of kin as brother Alfred Barnes Fortune Bay Nfld. On his marriage cert from England his father was listed as Henry Barnes...Labourer...deceased. Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to find out information on my family tree, but I've been having trouble with the Hackett side. My grandfather's name was Michael Hackett (b. 1920 on Wood's Island); his father was Nathaniel Hackett (b. 1879 in EHE, married Martha Hynes in 1905); his father was John Hackett (b. in Harbour Grace?, married Mary Parsons. I am looking for any and all information pertaining to this Hackett line. I am especially looking for information dated before the Hacketts moved from EHE to Wood's Island in 1898, as well as info dated to their time in Harbour Grace. Whew! I don't really know anything about the Larners but, by chance, I may be able to help a bit. But I'll make this as brief as possible.

My mother's photo albums show two photographs involving children named Larner. The first one shows my mother holding a baby, and its caption says "Rudolph Larner & Self". The second shows my mother with three children, and the caption says "Self. Rudolph, Eleanor, & Eileen Larner /26". My notes on the latter photo read:
"Self = Alice Gertrude Lukins
/26 = September 1926; taken
at Whitbourne, Newfoundland"
I don't know, now, whether my notes were part of the caption, or whether I knew where the photo was taken by some other means. (For example, perhaps others around it were all taken at Whitbourne.) I no longer have these albums, though I did scan the two photos, and have electronic images of them.

I have wondered how my mother's family--parents Fred & Johanna Lukins of St. John's--knew the Larners. Somehow I discovered that there was a Larner sharing the same building as my grandparents Fred and Johanna some time in the 1920s; but I have been unable to find that again, today.

Finally, I found a fair amount of information about the Larners by carrying out a certain Google search. Rather than summarize all that information here, let me suggest how you can duplicate that search for yourself:

Go to www.google.com and click "Advanced Search".
In the "with all of the words" blank, enter "Larner" (without the quotes).
Go down 8 lines to "Domain"; in its blank (at the right), enter "ngb.chebucto.org" (without the quotes).
Click "Search".

That will bring up two pages to links to web pages that mention various Larners.

If you would like to see the two images I have, please contact me privately, and I'll send them as an attachment to an email.

George Francis was married to my great great grandmother, Catherine Sargent... she was born 1841 in Newfoundland. George drowned in the fall of 1872 and she later married my g g grandfather Charles Nicolle.

She and George had three sons, Henry John born Feb. 11, 1866, George Robert born Mar 18, 1870 and Eli Leed born Sept 12, 1872.....just days after his father's death.

The three sons followed their mother and step father to Saskatchewan in the early 1880s.
