Dear Gerald:
I'm afraid I can't help you much with John Smith.I have John and Joseph Smith in Lovel's 1871 census. I made a note that Joseph married a Rosina or Rosanna. The two Smith's were probably related in some way. So many families seemed to move together to the same areas. A great many of these families in Garia moved to Anticosta Island and from there the canadian government moved them to other areas in Ontario when the experiment in Anticosta didn't work. My family (my grandfather's parents) went to Salem Wisconsin U. S. A. Lovel's mispelled my ggrandparents name. It should have been Hartnell not Hartrel. I checked this out in Newfoundland when we visited in St. John's. I looked in the queries from the Newfoundland Ancestor and found some Smith's but not what you were looking for. Sorry I wasn't of more help. Daryle
