"Lizzie" Price (b~1898)

I'm trying to find the parents of this woman - or any documentation at all.

She married David Garfield Collins (born 16 Jan 1894 in Shoal Bay, Newfoundland to parents Samuel and Elizabeth) sometime before 1919. He went by Garfield Collins in most records. She died in childbirth on 16 Sep 1921. Her death record lists her as "Mrs. Garfield Collins" (argh!), age 23 and born in "Lower Burnt Cove" (a place that, to my knowledge, has never existed).

She was known as Lizzie Price - most likely meaning one of her given names was Elizabeth (although Eliza is another possibility). It was quite common to go by a second name, so this might not be the first name on her birth/baptismal record.

Also her family was supposedly from Trinity Bay. While there is no such place as "Lower Burnt Cove", the Price family at the time of her birth lived in Loreburn, Trinity Bay. Loreburn was know by several variant spellings as well as "Long Cove".

The death record implies that she was born around 1898, but given the other problems, this may not be accurate either.

So far, the Vital Statistics dept. has not been able to produce any record of this woman. Searching through the readily available Price family records for the time period of her birth has not turned up anything concrete. There were a couple other Elizabeth/Eliza Prices in this time and place, but both apparently were married to other men and outlived our Lizzie Price.

Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

My great grandfather was James Wells. He was born about 1850 give or take a few years. I believe he may have married an Alice Goldsworthy and the couple may have lived in English Harbour at one time. Their children were Edmund Wells, Rhoda Wells, James Wells and Amy Ann Wells {my grandmother. Amy Ann married Joseph Barnes first and Alexander Ivany second. When Amy Ann's father James died, Amy Ann's mother Alice married a Barnes also. I believe the name of Alice's second husband may have been Richard. I do know that there were children from this second marriage. Is there anyone out there who can tell me who James Wells parents were, if he had any brothers and sisters and who Alice Goldsworthy's ancestors might be? I desperately need information on Joseph Barnes parents, brothers and sisters. He and my grandmother lived in Shoal Hr. at one time and I believe he operated a saw mill somewhere in that area. Any infofmation at all would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I'm looking for a Capt. Hector Curtis who in the 1928 Voter's List is living on Noad Street with George, James and Susanna Curtis. Hector married Matilda Churchill of Portugal Cove, her father was Ezra Churchill. Hector and Matilda had one known child, Ezra William Curtis born 1897, St. Paul's Anglican Church Records for H.G. In the 1910 Philadelphia, Penn. census records, Matilda is then living with her sister Mary Ann Paul (nee Churchill), widow. Matilda's son Ezra William is not living with his mother. There is a mention of a Capt Hector Curtis being in Twillingate where he doing his first time as a sealing capt. there. Would anyone know if Ezra William Curtis, b. 1897 H.G., may have died young? And is the Capt Hector Curtis of Twillingate his father? Thank you....

I am having difficulty getting back beyond the mid 1700s with information on any of the GEORGE families of Trinity Bay. If anyone can help, I would very much appreciate it. In particular, information on ROBERT GEORGE, who landed in Heart's Content with his family, (from Wales??) in 1708, would be very helpful. If anyone is interested, I would be glad to share the information I have collected so far. Cheers, Doug George

Trying to find information on any Grant's from New Perlican. It is believed the family originated from Trinity. In March,1854, a Mr. Grant and a Mr. Scott died in a snow storm on the Heart's Content Barrens (as ststed in the Diary of Rev Henry Lind), but the first names are not given. My GGrandparents were Charles Grant and Dorothy Matthews. Charles was the son of John Grant and ??? but I have no idea where he was born but it was about 1818 and he died April 1856. I understand that Charles had sisters who married, ? Martin, ? White and ? Mills. Any information would be appreciated.

Shipbuilder Pittmans/ Dorset>Trinity>New Perlican

Looking for others researching this Pittman line. Capt. William Pittman/Pitman was employed by Benjamin Lester of Poole.

William Pittman and and wife Ann White immigrated from Abbotsbury, Dorset to Nfld in 1788 with 3 sons, William, Charles White, and Corbet. In Trinity, Wm. & Ann had 4 more children: George White, Elizabeth, Mary, and Ann.

William Pittman Jr. removed to New Perlican, Trinity Bay to run the Lester/ Garland premises in 1800. He and wife Sarah DEAN (b abt 1775 in Poole, Dorset) had 5 sons: Charles, James, George, Albert, and Corbet, who all followed in the family business.

The descendants of these Pittmans have scattered to other parts of Nfld: St John's, Carbonear, and Hant's Harbor; Canada: Toronto & Nova Scotia; and the USA: my branch immigrated to Michigan (Sault Ste Marie) in the late 1800s. Other Pittmans went to Boston, and possibly Seattle.

Have a good bit of info to share, but also gaps to be filled due to the fact that many records in New Perlican, Carbonear & St John's were destroyed by fires.

Other NEW PERLICAN surnames of interest that connect with my Pittman lines:
WARREN, MARTIN, SEWARD/ SEAWARD, PITTS, MITCHUM/ MITCHEM, MERCHANT.

Anyone who would like to share info, please reply to the board or e-mail me at <win1@usol.com>.

Thanks to all who reply.

Hello, everyone.

I have subscribed to the Trinity Bay list for sometime now and read the postings with great interest; however, this will be the first time that I have posted a query in several years.

My great-grandmother was a Hiscock from Catalina.

Her parents were Joseph (abt.1847 to 1911) and Jane (abt. 1854 to 1918).

Their children included:

Thomas (1866 - ?)
Rebecca (1876 - ?)
Elizabeth (1878-1878)
Susan (1878-1878)
Mary Marie (1879 - ?)
Herbert (1882 - ?)
Sarah Maude (1884 - 1890)
Edward Thomas (1886 - 1911)
Richard Taylor (1886 - ?)
Chesley (1888 - 1888)
Ellen (1888 - 1922)
Jessie (1891 - ?)

My great-grandmother was Ellen who married Walter Pierce, and after his passing in the S.S. Southern Cross sealing disaster, Isaac Gullage.

I am looking for any information on Joseph and Jane as I have hit a road block in tracing earlier generations of their families. At the moment, I have their dates of death and information concerning the baptism of their children, but no dates of birth, baptism or marriage for Joseph and Jane, nor who their parents were.

If you have information on this family in your records, I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks for your time.
I am researching the Hicks family of Elliston (Bird Island Cove), Trinity Bay, NL. I was wondering if anyone out there has Hicks in their family from Elliston. I do have a lot of info on Bonavista Hicks but cannot find out where the Hicks of Elliston originated from. Names I am interested in are John, who had a son Joseph. Joseph married Charlotte Chard in 1849. They had a son John Chard Hicks b:1854. This man is my ggrandfather. Any info welcome.
Shirley Ralph

Hello.
My husband is a Reid and we are searching for his ancestors.
His g-grandfather was an Abel Reid, born approx. 1901 in Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. We have no knowledge of his parents or any siblings. He is a mystery at this point. We do know that he ended up moving to Nova Scotia at some point and married Celina LeBlanc. They moved to Ontario where they lived and died. Buried in Nova Scotia.
I have been searching online and see that there are many Reid families in Newfoundland.
Are there many different Reid families in Newfoundland or is just about all of these familes descended from some big Reid family from centuries ago?
Please reply if you can help,
also if you know of any great Newfoundland genealogy sites you think may help.
thanks,
Melissa & Scott (Reid)
