My grandfather was Matthias Walsh as described in my previous posting. My great grandfather (Phillip Walsh) supposedly sneaked out of Ireland in woman's clothing (from Co. Kilkenny)and was in the US in time to be a drummer boy in the Civil War. As that would have placed him at about the age of 10 sometime between 1861 - 1865, he should have been born about 1850-1855.
After the civil war, Phillip settled in the Buffalo NY area and was later married to Ellen Griffin. Phillip Walsh, is said to have had a brother who also left Ireland, perhaps up to year after Phillip and settled in the western most part of Canada. It is also known that from that time forward, Phillip would no longer recognize or acknowledge his brother's existance since he settled in a "Crown Colony".
Although his brother tried to continue the relationship from Canada, Phillip would hear nothing of it and also disallowed any other family members to continue contact with him either.
I do not know the name of Phillip's brother, but perhaps we can peice together a connection. I'd be most interested in anything that can be contributed here.
