I am looking for any information on the Goosney Family of Western Newfoundland. Any information would help. My family comes from a line of "James Goosney's".
The futherest that I have gone with these people is James Goosney (born about 1828 - died 1918 Stanleyville) and his wife Rebecca Mercer (born 1833 - died 1885 Birchy Head).
One of there son's, also James Goosney (born 1861 Labrador - 1938 Birchy Head) Married in 1884 to Sarah Read (born 1863 Codroy - died 1942 Birchy Head).
They too had a son James Robert Goosney (born 1895 Saquenay Quebec/Labrador - died 1943 Birchy Head) who married Edith Payne (born 1903 Parson's Pond - died about 1995)
I also have the names of the children of all these people and would be glad to help anybody who is also interested in this family.
Here is a transcript from a book that I have. Can anyone back this information up?
:James Goosney (1830 - 1918), a fisherman, arrived in Bonne Bay by 1876, settling his family at Birchy Head. James came to Bonne Bay from the Labrador, where he had fished since about the late 1850's. Previous to locating on the Labrador, he was living at Bay Roberts, Conception Bay. It is not known wheather James was born at Bay Roberts or in England. Certainly, either place would seem possible.
(Note: A Goosney from Guernsey, Channel Islands (South of England) settled at Coley's Point, near Bay Roberts, between 1790 and 1810. Possibly an ancestor of James Goosney of Bonne Bay).
Thank you in advance,
