I am looking for information on the Ingram family located in Bonne Bay area. My g-g grandfather was Arthur Henry Ingram, who was b. around 1872. He married Charlotte Humber, who was b. Oct 14, 1876. I have extensive info on her side of the family but little on his. I would love to swap info with anyone. I am looking for his children and in particular am looking for any information on his daughter Sadie. Apparently they moved to Falmouth, MASS around 1920. I believe that Sadie married a Criminger from the U.S. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hello,

Would anyone be researching the above family names?
My ancestor Charlie GREEN was born @1853 in Sandy Point, Bay St George (the 1945 census gives his age as 92). He married Marie Louise AUCOIN, d/o Constant AUCOIN + Marcelline LEBLANC. I'm stuck on Charlie's line. I understand his parents were Pierre PLEVERT + Marie Louise LEJEUNE. I've looked for references to the PLEVERT line in both NFLD and Nova Scotia, yet so far haven't uncovered much other than the birth of a Marie Louise 15 Oct 1850 to parents Pierre PLEVER + Marie Louise.

I have a book by B. Arsenault which refers to the family name of LEVERT in the settlement of Cheticamp... and began wondering if the name GREEN was anglicized from LEVERT rather than PLEVER/T. Would anyone have any knowledge of the LEVER line, or its connection to the GREEN surname?

Regards, and thank you,
Susan

Hi Everyone:
I have gathering my documentation for a few months. I have connected myself to Luc Benoit from Margaree, N.S. who married Helen Le Blanc and lived in Stephenville.

I an looking for information on an ancestor : Anne l'Official . I do know that she was a full blooded M'k Maq , she married Francois - the first Benoit to settle in Newfoundland-on 20 June 1790 at Sandy Point, Nfld in the 1790's. He was born 1763 in Iles Malouines. He died after 1839 in Bay St. George, Nfld.. Ann L'Official's parents were: Henri l'Official and Isabelle [Nannette] Shegone.

I believe that she connects to me through Milli (Millicent Eunice Chaisson), my grandmother. I have documentation so far that shows that: Milli's parents were Josephine and Lawrence Chaisson(maiden name Chiasson), Lawrence's father was Naziree Chaisson, I think. I know that Josephine's parents were: Julian Chaisson and Jane (Jenny) Benoit. Is Jane a descendant (daughter or granddaughter) of Ann L' Official, I am trying to find out?

I would welcome any help, hints or direction.

Thanks,
Jasen

I have searched through every data base containing census and vital stats that seemed to be available. There are still some family members and 'archives' to look through. Anyone researching the same lineage who wants to exchange information please email me. My great grandmother, Mary Ann Collier Reid(1884-1977) Left Codroy around 1900 for North Syney. Noone seems to know who her mother was. I know that her mother died when Mary Ann was very young. There are conflicting stories within the family. The confusion comes over the fact that her father John Henry Collier(April 1851-May 1942) was married 3 times. I don't know the names of his wives. The name Susan Kendal keeps coming up and she did supposedly die at 28 during child birth and this is consistent with Mary Ann losing her mother at a young age.....i could go on...i hope this catches someone's eye....one more thing....the name Nancy MacNeil is another wild card I have been told that she was Mary Ann's mother and that she was her grandmother. Also been told the mother is a Mcginnis.
Hi. I am doing some family research for my husband. His Great Great grand parents were
William Hynes (b 1809 or 1820, d 1906)
Caroline Marche (b1834, d 1927) married 1852
I have no other information on Caroline Marche. Alot of Marches in the Bay St. George area claim to have Mi'kmaq connections. If you have any info on this please let me know. Thanks

I've read some of the info on the Camus family, possibly moving to NF and changing the name to Cammie.

My grt grt grt grandmother was Francoise Camus. She married (Jean)Hubert Clement(s)c. 1820 in Cape Breton. She is buried in River Bouorgeois, Richmond County.

Her brother may have been Jean Rene Camus. I can't find the trail of her family anywhere. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Joanne

Hi all, I posted this to my friends on my personal mailing list and wanted to post it here. In looking at different sources of information, I found two birthdates for Angus and two different lists of his children.

In one source, it says Cecelia, daughter of Donald MacIsaac and Catherine MacFarlane, married Peter McKay. In another it says, Catherine, sister of Cecelia, married Peter Mckay. Which is right?

How can we verify the information we get? Do we rely on census records which are famous for mistakes on birthdates or using nicknames or middle names instead of actual first names? Are baptismal records accurate. I pass on information that comes to me but I cannot verify it's accuracy.

Valerie confirmed that John MacIsaac b. 1868(1911 census), was son of Angus MacIsaac and Catherine Campbell. John married Annie young(parents unknown).

I would like to verify that John MacIsaac who married Maisie Tallack was related to John MacIsaac who married Annie Young. If I'm right then, one of John's sons was father to John h/o Maisie. John, husband of Maisie, had brothers Wilfred and Stephen. I believe Stephen died young. Appears all have ties to Moidart.

Still looking for info on Little River MacIsaacs-Daniel/Donald h/o Sarah "Sally MacDonald, Katherine MacIsaac w/o Alexander "Sandy" MacDonald, and also Mary, wife of Donald "Big Dan" MacDonald.

Donald MacDonald's father was James s/o Alexander, of Strathlorne, NS. with possible ties to the Isle of Skye. Donald's mother was Mary MacIsaac d/o Murdoch (ties to Canna).Any help would be appreciated.

Rhon

Amable Rowe/Catherine Ryan/Mary Young

I am a ggrandaughter of Amable Rowe and Catherine Ryan. My grandfather was their first child, born in Port au Port in 1898. His sister Mary was born in April 1902. Catherine was the daughter of Dennis and Sarah Ryan and she died in 1903. Amable remarried and had 4 more children with Mary Young - Joseph, Martin, Henry and Sarah. I am looking for anyone who may have been familiar with this family. Amable and Catherine's family lines are well documented - however - I would like to know when and where Amable died. I would also like to know how Catherine died (she was only 28) Also, anyone with any info on daughter Mary - she apparently migrated to NY at some point and died there in 1969. Her story is a complete mystery. Also, what became of Martin and his sister Sarah? Any help anyone has would be greatly appreciated!!!

The ship Kite

I am looking for information on the SS Kite her captain was James Young. This ship was used in sealing
This is some information I found:

April 27, 1900
The S.S. Harlaw's good fortune at the sealing fishery is being felt here. There were over fifty of our men in her. The schooners, however, were not so fortunate. Capt. G. YOUNG, of Codroy, is in and reports small catches. The long absence of the S.S. Kite and her gallant captain, James YOUNG, is causing some uneasiness in some quarters.

Wednesday, April 27, 1900
The S.S. "Grand Lake" passed the seal steamer "Kite" on Saturday last off Codroy, apparently poorly fished.

Wednesday, April 27, 1900
The S.S. Kite arrived at St. John's on the 23rd inst., with only 500 seals on board.

Wednesday, May 4, 1900
The smallest trip was that of the "Kite" she having taken but 500 seals.

Early Families of the West Coast Records

Has anyone checked the early RC church records of L’Ardoise?
I have seen earlier references than the transcriptions that are posted on the web.

They (the L'Ardoise records) may be with the Archdiocese of Antigonish (formerly Arichat) or held by the church itself.

Another possibility are the records of St. George's Anglican Church, Sydney NS. These begin in 1785 (and encompass the years soon after their return) and if there was no Catholic Priest available, this was an alternative. There are Acadians in the Anglican records (they later had these acts revalidated by the RC Church).

The Cape Breton Genealogical and Historical Society

http://www.rootsweb.com/~nscbgha/Non_MembINDEX.html

has the St. George's records and/or perhaps the Beaton Institute is also a good source for this Church.

Some West Coast Newfoundland and Bras D'or CB Families can find records at St. Michael's. See the link below.

http://www3.nf.sympatico.ca/trish.leblanc/stmichaels.html

Sue

Mary E. Benoit

My aunt Mary E. Benoit ( actually Marie Elizabeth Benoit as stated on baptism record) was supposed to have left for Newfoundland for United States sometime around 1899 when she was 11 years old. She supposedly was adopted by a couple named HUNT. My quest is to find out by what means she would have left NL and arrived in US. I cannot locate her name on any passenger lists.I can however, locate her on census records after age 19 as married to a Fred Hunt and living in Minnesota. Any suggestions about her means of transportation would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
Jannette Day jannetteday@sympatico.ca

DUFFY / DUFFEY / DUFFEE Family of Bay St. George

Hi there,

I am researching the DUFFY family history in Atlantic Canada - New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland specifically.

My research has me stuck at my great-great-grandfather, John Duffy Sr (1841-1882). He lived in Abraham's Cove, in the Bay St George area of Newfoundland. This is known as the French Shore, and I suspect John Duffy was Acadian (French) and his ancestors probably hailed from France. It is said he moved to Newfoundland from Baie-des-Chaleurs (PQ or NB I don't know).

I've had a DNA test that confirms a Northern Europe (French) ancestry (I1a Haplotype).

I'm looking to talk with people who are either researching the same Newfoundland Duffy's, or similar last names from that region (Duffey, Duffney, Duffenais). Also if anyone has French Duffy's in their tree that may have moved to Canada I'd like to hear.

Thanks in advance,
Scott Duffy
I have only been able to find him on the 1921 census Newfoundland (Campbell's Creek) where he is married to Isabelle Marche and they are living with her parents at the time, that census states his birth place as Avondale in 1896 however I have not found any records for him there so have not been able to find out who his parents were. He is burried in Campbell's Creek and did have a brother Patrick born in 1894, also in Avondale. Any information would be appreciated! Thanks
Hello all,
I've just joined the West Coast Board. I am researching the Martin (St. Martin) family that settled in the Codroy area in the 1850s. I have Michael Martin (St. Martin) married to Mary D Gillis around 1850. Sons Daniel, Charles, Stephen, Michael, Paul --- Daughters Christie, Elizabeth and Mary Anne. These children were born in the 1850s,60s and 70s. The surnames I've listed above are those that I know are connected by marriage to the Martin family. I have quite a bit of information on some; very little on others. If anyone would like to share info/research please contact me.
Steve
(steve@messmerized.net)

Jacquet/Morell/Marche from Port au Port

Hi,

Looking for information on the Jacquet family who lived at Berry Head on the Port au Port penninsula beginning in the 1850's. Francois Jacquet (s/o Francois Jacquet and Francoise Borion of France) married Bridget Marche (d/o Denis Francois Marche and Charlotte/Catherine LeJuene). They had at least 8 children all baptized at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church at Sandy Point, with the surname "Jacquet". At some point, the family started using the name "Morell". I am trying to find information on Jean Francois Jacquet/Morell who was born 16 Oct 1855. He had at least 4 children: Nora Ann, Mary Frances, John, and Amelia J. Morell. Does anyone know who Jean's wife was and where she was born? I heard that her first name was either Jane or Mary Jane. Also, I am trying to determine where John Morell and Amelia J. Morell may have settled. Lastly, I'd like to know where Francois Jacquet was born and what part of France that the family originated from.

Thanks so much for reading this post. Any information would help.

Charles may have been the son of John and Johanna.
Charlles went to Rose Blanche and their son Thomas born in 1870 was my grandfather.
I have one great mystery I'm trying to solve. Oct 1 1843 in Fortune a son was baptised William Gallop Anderson the child of Willliam and Susannah Anderson.
Now my mother is a descendent from the Gallops of Fortune who went to Codroy in 1835. In 1797 Susan Gallop was born to William and Mary Kerley. This Susan married James Lake. Her brother was my William Gallop who went with his wife Jane (unknown) and his Young and Moore brothers-in law to Codroy
My Andersons have connections in La Plante, Burgeo, West Pointe and Petites.
Charles and John Andeerson were in Rose Blanche in about 1864.
Mina Anderson Grant.
