I don't know if you are aware but there is a great website that posts all kinds of birth marriage death cemetery transcriptions census etc.. for newfoundland it is called Newfoundland Grand Banks. I think the web address is www.chebucto.org/newfoundland or something to that effect. Good Luck trying to find out about your Elliot. I am searching for a Amelia Elliott but do not have any info on her siblings or parents only that she married my great great grandfather Alfred Rice in Newfoundland.
