Obituary of Mrs. William MacDonald as it appeared in The Advertiser (1981)

BEAR RIVER - Mrs. William MacDonald, 82 of Bear River, formerly of Grand Pre, died May 24 in Digby General Hospital.

Born in Grand Pre, she was the former Nellie Ioia Hardacker, a daughter of the late John and Sophia (Randall) Hardacker.

She was a member of the Lower Horton United Church and active in all church programs. She was life member of United Church Women and of the British and Foreign Bible Society. She was also active in community projects. She later became a member of St. Andrew's Church, Wolfville. She was on the staff at the Grand Pre Post Office for 48 years and was postmistress for 37 years until retirement in 1966. She moved to Bear River in 1968 and was an adherent of the Bear River United Church.

Surviving are four step children; 2 daughters, Margaret MacDonald, Port Williams, and Anna (Mrs. Walter Pye), Halifax and Gordon Halifax and Gordon New Glasgow; a niece Eleanor Morine, Bear River and a newphew Scott Morine, Grand Bay, NB.

She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Williams MacDonald, two sisters and a brother.

The body was at Jaynes Funeral Home, Digby. Funeral was May 26 in St. Andrew's United Church, Wolfville, Rev. Walter Murray officiated with burial in Lower Horton United Church Cemetery, Grand Pre.

Donations may be made to the British and Foreign Bible Society or to St. Andrew's United Church Memorial Fund.
