I'm just curious to find out why, when I find ancestors of mine from Nova Scotia, that sometimes instead of a name of a city/town or county is used, there'll be a 7 digit number instead. For example, I have an ancestor who one person had as dying in 1652416, 1654147, Nova Scotia, Canada. However, someone else has the location as Sydney, Cape Breton, etc.
Are the two 7 digit numbers equivalen to Sydney, Cape Breton? Are they postal codes? Is there some matrix that correlates the numbers to names?
Thanks for any help.
