Bingo! I'm thinking the same thing, Vickie, orphans. It would make sense for a regimental chaplain to have taken on orphans. I've also recently learned that children were called "orphans" even if only their father died. It wouldn't surprise me at all if a dying soldier's last request was for the chaplain to take care of his family. Now, I wonder if there were any children housed in the Hessian barracks in Frederick? They were called POW's, but of course, they were somewhat free to come and go as they pleased...I wouldn't be surprised if there were children there as well. I have contact with the curator...I'll ask him.
