Thank you so much for your help! I have tried only the info on ancestry.com. My step-grandfather was Frederick Joseph Sonier. He couldn't speak, read or write English; therefore, in Maine an English speaking person had to fill out documents for him. I wondered how many names on those documents may have been spelled phonetically in English, and actually being nowhere close to the true French spelling. I will definitely start searching those links you suggested. I had no idea the Sonier/Sonnier/Saulnier family was so large. I'm looking forward to hours of more research fun now! Again, thank you so much!
