Just a thought re your 'Sonier' and its spelling variants phonetically / anglicized. Unless you've checked it out, perhaps your line in Digby area is from 'Saulnier', the French spelling of this early family, still in large numbers along the 'French Shore' in Digby/Yarmouth county area in NS. Even a village named Saulnierville.
