I have that his father was James Condon married to Nancy Montgomery, and that Joshua Stephen's father James was married second and had a son Wells. Wells Condon is a familiar name - one being born 19 Nov 1791, son of Benjamin Condon and Ruth Reynolds and another being his son Wells Jr. b. 13 Oct 1833.

One candidate for your James may be the son of Joseph Condon and Mary Wells - that James was born 23 Aug 1768.
