For privacy reasons births after 1909 are not public. If the person was born in Nova Scotia and you can prove a close relationship, you can apply for that persons birth certificate. The following website should give you the information you need.

There is no guarantee that the fathers name will be on it but it certainly could be. If they were born in another province, I expect the procedure is about the same. Just find the provincial website and look for "Vital Statistics"
