This is not a family that I am researching but I thought I see if I could help out.
Nova Scotia Vital Stats are online at
www.novascotiagenealogy.ca
They are free and easily searchable. You will need to download a viewer program that is free onsite to see the actual record. (Note that the spelling of this name is most often “Pelly” and has also been transcribed as Pulley and Polley)

The marriage certificate of James Pelley is available there. Information as follows

There is a marriage recorded between a Reuben Pelley and Georgene Pushie in 1916. I am assuming it is the above although the ages are a bit off (which is not unusual) and Reuben is described as a bachelor. There isn’t any other Reuben on the 1911 Census who it could be plus they had already been domiciled together many years so its pretty much a forgone conclusion that it must be the above uncle of your James. The marriage record names Reubens parents (your James’ grandparents) as Joseph and Betsy.

In the 1881 Census the family of James is made up as follows
Guysborough District 8-A, page 57
John Pelley, married, male, age 28, born Nova Scotia
Elizabeth Pelley, married, female, age 22, born Nova Scotia
James Pelley, male, age 1, born Nova Scotia
Mary Husha, married, age 37, born Nova Scotia
Victoria Husha, married, age 18, born Nova Scotia

The death certificate of Laura’s mother is online. Ester Catherine Pelley died July 29, 1942 in Sunnyville, Guysborough Co of cardiac failure. She was 83 years old and is recorded as married, not widowed so Thomas must have been still alive. Her birthdate is given as Jan 12, 1859 and she was born in Guysborough Co of Dutch descent. Her parents are listed as Jeremiah Meades born in Guysborough and Mary Armsworthy born Guysborough.

The 1871 Census has the following family group
Guysborough District 202, subdist a (Note-name has been mis-transcribed as Pulley)
All Surname Pelly, all born Nova Scotia
Josia – married - age 72
Elizabeth – married - age 49
James age 23
John age 20
Thomas, age 17
Levi age 12
Elizabeth age 15
Harry age 10 -name difficult to read
Reuben age 6
Albert, age 4

The death certificate of the above Levi Pelley is available online. He died Feb 16, 1926 of influenza. His parents are recorded as Joseph Pelley born Newfoundland (at that time part of the British Isles-didn’t join Canada till several years later) and Elizabeth Dorrington born Canada

The next family on this page is another son of Josia
Joseph Pelly married, age 26
Mary Pelly married age 22
Elsa Pelly age 5 mos
Ester Meades, age 9

The marriage record of the above is online. Joseph Josiah Pelly age 25 bachelor son of Joseph J Pelly and Elizabeth married Mary Eliza Meade age 22, spinster, dau of James and Mary Meade in Guysborough Co in 1870
