If anyone has access to this book I would appreciate a look-up for Thomas and James Jessop which should be on page 378. They were granted land in East Country Harbor as members of the King's Carolina Rangers. I am hoping the book will have more information on them. Thanks in advance.

Greencorn, Thomas (b. abt 1830 of Philips Harbour)

It has been over two years since I last posted an inquiry on this message board looking for ancestors of THOMAS GREENCORN born abt. 1830 of the Phillips Harbour area.

I am hoping there are some Greencorn family descendants/researchers that might have some information to share with me. According to census data, the Thomas Greencorn family lived in Guysborough County, primarily Phillips Harbour/Crow Harbour area for over twenty years (refer to 1871 and 1881 census data). Thomas Greencorn was born abt. 1830. He married Caroline Sceles (b. abt 1834) of Crow Harbour. My research indicates that her parents were Robert Sceles and Mary Last Name Unknown. According to Census, Caroline Sceles had a brother David.
Thomas and Caroline Greencorn had the following children:
Eliza b. abt 1860 m. John Cook s/o Francis and Ellen Cook
Matilda b. abt 1862 m. Henry Ballantine s/o James and Mary
Lavinia b. abt 1864
Mary b. abt 1867
Elisabeth* b. abt 1870 m. Arthur Munro s/o Hugh P & Melinda
Martha b. abt 1873
Bridget b. abt 1880

Thomas Greencorn was living with son-in-law Arthur and daughter Elisabeth "Lissie" (Greencorn) Munro during the 1891 Census of White Head family #004.

I have done hands-on research of available property records and church records in the Canso/Guysboro area with no meaningful results. Please contact me if you have any possible leads or suggested resources that might help me to find Thomas's ancestors.

Fred (Thomas and Caroline's GG Grandson)

Hello,
Are there any LAMB descendants/researchers on this message board who might be able to help me understand the Lamb family lineage of:
1) Mary Elinor Lamb, born on 14 May 1821 in Guysborough County and died 19 Aug 1903 in White Head, Guysborough County. She was married 25 Jan 1841 to William James MUNRO (b. 22 Nov 1818 in Shelburne County and d. 20 March 1909 in White Head, Guysborough County)
2) Elizabeth Francis Lamb, born 28 Mar 1813 in Molasses Harbour, Guysborough County and died on 22 Aug 1893 in White Head, Guysborough County. She was married 19 Apr 1835 to Hugh MUNRO (b. 07 Feb 1811 in Barrington, Shelburne County, d. 26 Aug 1893 in White Head, Guysborough County)

It is interesting to note that Elizabeth Francis Lamb married the uncle (Hugh) of William James Munro, both of the same Munro Clan (Loyalists) of Shelburne, NS. It seems logical that Elizabeth Fancis Lamb and Mary Elinor Lamb were closely related (sisters?) but I am not able to find any proof of this.

Hello! I'm hoping someone can provide me with some information on my father's family. The only information I can find is from the 1910 Census. On it is listed a BARRETT (although the spelling used on the census is BERRETTE) Leo H, born December 1910 (same month year as my Dad who was born in Larry's River so I'm assuming this is the same person). Leo is listed as the son of Edward (b. 1863) and Magie (b. 1866).

Any information, links, photos, etc. would be most greatly appreciated - I grew up knowing nothing of this side of my family and would very much like to know more.

Thank you!

Lynn (Barrett) Nugent
I am looking for details on two (or more) men who served in the 22nd Regiment and settled in Guysborough in 1784 - (William?) Graham and William Grant. They are mentioned in the book "Guysborough Sketches and Essays" by A.C. Jost, but I do not have the complete information from the book.
I have detailed information about the military service of the soldiers in this regiment, but am looking for other data particularly ages, children, etc.
If anyone can help, and in particular if anyone has access to "Guysborough Sketches" and is willing to look up these men, it would be greatly appreciated.

I am hoping someone who is following the Munro(e) family of Whitehead N.S., knows where I might find an obituary or death record for Nina.
Nina was b. June 1906 the last child of Eben Munroe and wife Sarah Mckay. I have located her marriage in New Brunswick to Lancelot McLaughlin in 1921.
I know she married again probably after 1927.
On her brother's obituary in 1957 it states that his sister has predeceased him and refers to her as Nina (Mrs.George Abbott)
The story is that she died in a car accident...
Any info would be a great help.
Thanks in advance

Does anyone have information on this NICHOLAS GREENCORN family line? This is a real brain teaser!!
I hope someone familiar with the subject topics will be able to help refresh my memory.
Quite some time ago I hit on a site that had Muster Rolls of the Loyalists who arrived at Guysborough in 1784. Because they were photocopies of the original handwritten Rolls they were very difficult to read, so I took note of the site with intention to return when I had more time. Now I cannot find my note and a new search has not been fruitful. As I recall there was a Roll for each of the various regiments/units and some carried on for multiple pages.
CAHILL, Matthew

I am researching the Cahill side of my husbands family. My husbands grandmother was Leah Margueritte Cahill born 1893.
She was actually born in Boston Mass while her parents were
visiting relatives. She was always listed on census as born in Nova Scotia - Enfield.

Her father was James W. Cahill born Mar 1866 Guysborogh.
James married Eliza Horne (born 1871)Oct 4, 1892. Parents of James are listed as Matthew Cahill and Sarah McMullen.
Parents of Eliza Horne: Donald Horne d.b. 1830 and Ellen
Hall d.b 1835.

According to the 1881 Guysborough census, Matthew Cahill
was born in 1838 of Irish origin. Matthew and Sarah had
three children shown on the 1881 census: Mary Ann, James,
John and Clarence.

My problem: The Cahill family, Matthew, Sarah, Mary Ann,
John and Clarence seem to have disappeared - I can find
nothing on them except for the marriage slip of James.
I would like to know, if possible, Matthews birth place,
parents names, etc. I know that Sarah's father was a Henry McMullin and he married a Margaret Redgate of Annapolis in Jan 1837. Any information on the McMullin's and Redgates would also be appreciated.

Thanking you in advance for any help you can provide.

Roberta

James W. & Catherine (MacRae) Buchanan farm

Years ago my father told me that his grandfather James W. and Catherine (MacRae) Buchanan owned a farm on Buchanan's Mountain. The barn burned down destroying family records and their livlihood; dyptheria then struck the family hard and they moved to Springhill N.S. to work in the mines sometime in the late 1800's and settled there.
Around 1955, my uncle and aunt Jack & Marjorie (Buchanan - born in Springhill) Trouve found and visited the old farm which was then owned by cousins named MacDonald, I believe. I recalled seeing pictures of the cousins and the farm that they brought back with them from that visit.
In 1991, I did a search of the Victoria County Courthouse records for property deeds and found two deed transactions in 1857 and again in 1860 referrring to Buchanan's Mountain, however, no one in the Regisrty at that time knew of any location by that name in the Beddeck area. Recently I have found reference that Buchanan's Mountain is located in Guysborough County and am able to easily I.D. the location using internet map searches. Does anyone have any furhetr location information on the James W. Buchanan Mountain farm location or current owner history information?

Abram Munro; Need help getting post military information

Hello
I am attempting to find out where and when my Grandmother's (Pearl Munro) brother passed away. His name was Abram Munro(e), his service number was 902338. He was seriously wounded at Lens, France while serving with the C.E.F during WW 1. As a result of wounds from high exposives and shrapnel, his left arm was amputated and he had compound fracture of his hip/thigh.
He (and two other White Head Munro's) joined the CEF on 01 Apr 1916 in Canso, Guysborough County,Nova Scotia. He was single with both parents (Arthur and "Lissie") deceased and had only an aunt for next of kin living in White Head, Guysborough County, NS. That was Mrs. Edward Munro (Martha - maiden name Uloth).
His original CEF unit was the 193rd Bn.(Nova Scotia Highlanders), was transferred to the 17th Canadian Reserve Bn on 23 Jan 1917 and then proceded overseas for service with the 85th Bn on 21 Apr 1917. He was was seriously wounded while on duty in the field on 17 Jun 1917. Then he was in many hospitals in France, England, and Canada until he received a medical discharge from Halifax, Nova Scotia on 27 Dec 1919. His Discharge Certificate indicates that he was (to be) issued a War Service Badge Class A No 134342 (final number 2 could be a "V") and BC No. 48447.
Basically, this is all the pertinent information that I was able to glean from his military records (copy) that I received from the National Archives of Canada.
It is a "long shot" that there would be any folks left that might know (from memory) what happened to Abram. But it would be foolish of me not to ask. If you know how I might be able to get more information regarding his final resting place, your assistance will be sincerely appreciated.

With warm regards,

Frederick M. Frey
1242 E. Ridgewood St.
Orlando, FL 32803 USA

Believe that the Stephen & Hannah Bradley buried in Stormont Cemetery are the parents of Lydia "Bradley" McPherson. Would greatly appreciate any information on them. Both died before 1881 census.

Lydia Bradley married Ronald McPherson abt. 1867 in Nova Scotia. They had the following children: Hannah B. in 1868 in Nova Scotia, Alexander S. b. abt. 1871 in Nova Scotia, John b. abt. 1873 in New Brunswick, Canada, Susin M. abt. 1875 in New Brunswick, Catherine A. abt. 1877 in New Brunswick, Mary b. abt. 1880 in New Brunswick, William b. abt. 1881 and Lena b. October 1884 in Bangor, Maine.

Lena is my husband's grandmother. She married Percy Crosthwaite in 1902 in Boston, MA. They had three children, Alexander, Percy Jr. and Catherine. Lena disappeared after the 1920 census.

Mary McPherson married Peter Salsman in Boston, MA. For a while they lived in MA, they later moved to New York. Peter is the son of Reuben Salsman and Julia Pembroke.

Would love to share with others researching these lines.

Thank you in advance for any bits of information on the above relatives.

Hello - My name is Heather Banks and my mother is the now deceased Janet Cameron MacDonald, daughter of Angus and Mary MacDonald. Among her siblings were Hugh, Alec, Margaret, Catherine (and James?). I now live in England, and will be visiting Scotland soon for the first time. I would love to know of any family history that has been compiled so far. Maybe I can add to it from this side of the soup.
Frank Munroe; Who were his parents?

While looking through White Head, Guysborough County Obituary's for missing information, I came accros the following Obituary that was posted in The Halifax Herald Monday, 20 June 1910, p. 4, col. 6:

WHITEHEAD, June 19 - About six o'clock last evening Frank MUNROE, an exceptionally bright little boy of eight years, who lived with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh P. MUNROE, Lower Whitehead, was accidentally drowned by falling over a wharf. His grandfather had left to go to tea, thinking the little fellow would follow, but as he did not arrive at the house in a few minutes his aunt went to look after him, and saw his cap floating on the water a short distance from the head of the wharf. She immediately called for help, and several men came to the scene and in a few minutes the lad's body was brought to the surface. Every means possible was used to resuscitate him, but life was extinct.

Hugh Perry Munroe was my GG Grandfather. So, now I am trying to discover the parents of Frank Munro. Does anyone know?

With warm regards,

Fred

They moved to Portland, Maine in 1884. I believe that he had a brother born about 1840 who married Henrieta McNair, from Mulgrave. Also, I think that he had another brother Roderick MvDonald who married a Nancy and lived in Mulford.

I would love to hear from anyone who may feel that their is a connection to my grandfather's family as listed below.

Nova Scotia 1891 Census Harbour au Bouche (Havre Bouche)

McDonald, Duncan Head, age 39 (son of Angus)
Elizabeth Wife, age 31
James Son, age 15
Mary E. Dau, age 12
Daniel Son, age 9
Catherine J. Dau, age 8
Angus Son, age 5
Elizabeth M. Dau, age 2
Vencient Son, age 1.12

Note: Elizabeth, wf. was formerly Kehoe or variant spelling

I am searching for an Emma Koch or variant spelling. She is
definitely an ancestor & I believe that she was Duncan's mother (wife of Angus) but may possibly be linked to Kehoe

My original data showed that my grandfather Vincent MacDonald, son of Duncan & Elizabeth (Kehoe) was born April 1, 1892 (baptised same day at St. Anne's Catholic Parish), Havre Bouche, NS.
He did not go by the name of Vencient which could very well be a simple spelling error. Also, the 1.12 may indicate that he was but 1.12 months & days old at the time of the census.

I know that some of my grandfather's relatives live in Alberta & British Columbia as well as Nova Scotia but I haven't any idea who they may be.

If any of this rings a bell, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thankyou.
April 1st, 1891(I assume that the 1.12 is months)
I was going through my files and I have decided to start looking for this brick wall again since the site has been so active. Maybe there is hope to find a connection yet.

Patrick O'Connor from Dunmanway Cork emigrated to Sydney Mines Nova Scotia in probably the mid 1800's. In the 1881 census I found a David O'Connor age 37 a farmer and in his home was his father Patrick age 75 and mother Isabella age 64. David's wife was Margaret. Others in the home were Mary Jane age 22, Thomas age 29, Patrick age 31, Michael age 37 and Bernard age 24 and a Joseph Landry age 12.

Anyone out there connected to this group??? I would love to find out more about this family just incase they are my family.

thanks, marg

Charles Brown of Manchester, Thomas Hugh, Brig 'Elizabeth Jane'

In 2003 I found 'Elizabeth Jane' carved into a joist in our house at Robin Hood's Bay North Yorkshire UK. I found a similar board with 'Ipswich' carved in it. Subsequent enquires led us to discover that Elizabeth Jane had been registered at Ipswich in Suffolk, UK in 1830, was built in Guysborough, Nova Scotia 1817, and was recorded 'Lost 9th July 1854 off the coast of Yorkshire'. Thanks to Philip L. Hartling at the Nsarm Archives <NSARM@gov.ns.ca>, refering to Harriet Cunningham Hart's History of the County of Guysborough, page 249, I learned: "Vessels built in Guysborough County":

"ELIZABETH JANE
Charles Brown of Manchester,
Thomas Hugh, mariner, May 12, 1817
Built at Guysborough, tons 109 87/94. Brig square stern.
Sold at Hambro under Bottomry Bond, 1819"
I wonder if these names are known to anyone and whether they have knowledge of ship building in Guysborough and in particular the Elizabeth Jane, (which I suspect forms the greater part of our hous)?
see: http://home.clara.net/sg/elizabethjane/index.html

Many thanks, Stephen Gavin.

Clan MacInnes/ MacInnis/ MacMasters

Although this may not fit the usual classification I thought it may be interesting to those working on the MacInnis surname. The International Association of Clan MacInnes has initiated a 25 marker male Y chomosome DNA study. Y chromosme DNA is passed from father to son unchanged for thousands of generations. This data is then matched with others in the database with the same surname or spelling variant. It can be further matched with other Clans who have partnered with Family Tree DNA for even more information and matches. Most people with an interest in genealogy can only research back no more than 250 years. With a DNA match it is possible to find someone with a common ancestor going back hundreds of generations.
Clan MacInnes decided to partner with Family Tree DNA mainly because they are currently servicing many other Scottish Clans which gives us a larger database pool.
To get more information or enroll please go to our website, www.clanmacinnes.org.
Norm MacInnis, High Commissioner
The International Association of Clan MacInnes is a non profit 501-c7 educational corporation
