Henry Miller

Hello again! My search for Henry Miller continues. Recent information leads me back to Hants County - in particular to George Miller, who settled in Kennetcook in 1783, his wife was Margaret Kuhn. They had a son Henry, born March 1788 who married Margaret Gill in 1813. Anyone with information on this Henry Miller or any other Henry Miller ? If so, I'd love to hear more about it.
Thanks!
Judy Miller, Upper Stewiacke, NS

Searching for information on Henry Miller , born about 1770 - married Sara Wright. We know they kept an Inn at Brandy Brook. We have always thought Henry was a Colchester County Miller, but finding no parents or siblings here, we have decided to try Hants County. The "Miller Book" gives no information on Henry previous to his marriage to Sara. My husband is a descendant of Henry and Sara, and we would gladly share any information we have. Looking forward to hearing from anyone with Henry and Sara in their family tree. Thanks.

I am eager to learn ANY details about the families of Thomas Dummer and Eunice Lavers, who were married in Hants, Nova Scotia in 1865.

According to an online marriage index, Thomas Dummer was the son of Joseph T. and Elisabeth Dummer. (Joseph T. Dummer was born in "Windsor.")

Eunice Lavers, born in "Newport," was the daughter of Charles Lavers.

My goal is to determine whether this Thomas Dummer could be my 2nd-great-grandfather, Thomas William Dummer, who was born c. 1844 in Nova Scotia. At present I know nothing more about his ancestry. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a photo of:
Marian, age 16
Leslie, age 15 and
Shirley, age 6
Cox
Children of Freeman Webber Cox, son of Henry Cox.

I'd love to get this photo into the right hands. The son (which I believe is Leslie and not Marion)looks amazingly like my dad, Robert Hall Cox, his cousin!

There has been recent interest in the descendants of James & Susan (Dalrymple) Sivwright on these Message Boards. I am a descendant of this couple and have a fairly complete family tree. The Sivwright family divided early into 2 branches with one staying and dying out in Nova Scotia and the second moving to the US Midwest. My info on the latter is not complete, but I would like to expand what I have. If anyone is interested, I can provide a GEDCOM file of what I do have.

Looking for information on an Alexander Brightman born about 1826. We are related through his son George who immigrated to Lawrence, MA with his family in the early 1900's. I keep reading about a George Brightman from Rhode Island who received a land grant there in 1772 or something, but I have not found any information to fill in the blanks between him and Alexander. Thanks.

Hi all...I was wondering if anyone might have any publications with Obits for 1921...I am looking for the obit for my GG Grandmother Catherine/Katherine(spelling) Davis, madien name Miller who died Oct 1, 1921 in Avondale...I have her death record d/o John & Isabella McLennan...she is buried in Avondale Cemetery...she was from the Windsor area and b: 1838...

She married a man by the name of Joseph Planet, but found out later his real name was Joseph Davis...he was from England, here with the British Forces and admitted he was already married with a family in England...the only record for surname Planet on the Archives site was a marriage bond between Joseph Planet and Catherine Hibbert, widow in 1863..when their son was born in 1864 he was given the Davis name...

Catherine Planet was listed in the 1901 census as a Domestic, with a Minnie Pepper and family...in the1901 city directory she was living at 219 North Street as Catherine Davis wid of Joseph...her son was married by this time...

In the 1881 census her son George William, was listed with a Margaret Miller age 50, in Halifax...thanking you in advance for any help...Sheila

Sorry about your accident.I hope you are on your way to a speedy recovery. Thankyou for the maiden name of Sarah Whitehead. I was able to find her listed as Sarah Killen living in St. Croix, in the 1871 census at age 8 which would mean she was born in 1863 but I cannot find her on the 1881 census. As she would have been 18 in 1881 she may have married by then but not to George Whitehead as he is listed on the 1881 census as age 24,single and still living at home. My questions are
1. Does anyone know if Sarah's name was Sarah Catherine Killen?
2.Does anyone know when Sarah married George Whitehead?
3.Is it possible that Sarah was married before she married George Whitehead?
4.If so, was she married to a Crowell?
Christian Miller Dies at Northfield - August 1, 1930
The Halifax Herald.
There passed away at Northfield, Hants County, on Friday evening, July 25, Christian Miller, at the advanced age of 95 years and six months. Although he had been in failing health for two and one-half years, since he had a slight stroke, his death was unexpected. The funeral service was conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev. R. Fowlow, Anglican clergyman. The hymns sung were: "the Lord's My Shepherd," "Just as I am Without One Plea," "When Our Heads Are Bowed With Woe" and "There is no Night in Heaven." These selections were beautifully rendered on the organ by Lawrence Miller, of Portland, Maine, who only three weeks ago played the hymns at the funeral of Mr. Miller's sister, Mrs. Robert Fenton, Portland, Maine. Mr. Miller leaves a widow, seven sons and two daughters- Creighton, Eliza, Sylvanus and Albro, Northfield; Thos., Five Mile River; Hector and George, Lantz Siding; Mrs Fred Hamilton, Lower Selma and Annie, Salem, Mass. All the children were present at the funeral, except Annie. Interment was in the Northfield Cemetery.

David Dill, b. 1780, d. at sea, 1831 was married to Rebecca McLatchy and had five children: Jane, Rebecca, David, James, and William. Are the James and William, both 64 in the 1871 census in Scotch Village the James and William mentioned in Rebecca's 1845 will? Rebecca was born about 1787 so would only have been 20 when these possible twins were born.
Bob
HUTCHINSON, LOWDEN, NICKSON, NICKERSON

I need to find a couple of graves.

According to his estate notice in the Acadian Recorder newspaper, my ggg-grandfather John Francis HUTCHINSON, known as Francis during his lifetime, died 1 Jan 1816 in Hants County; he was listed as being “of Windsor,” and was survived by his second wife, Fawnia “Fanny” HUTCHINSON, née LOWDEN. He was a Loyalist immigrant to Canada from Yorkshire, England, via New Jersey and New York, having arrived in the USA with his parents and siblings in 1774. As far as I know, he was a lifelong Anglican.

Although Francis’ primary homestead in Nova Scotia was near Morden in Kings County, later in life he and Fanny must have moved to the Kentville (Cornwallis Twp.)-Windsor area, where she had family (surnamed NICKSON/NICKERSON by her first marriage, as well as LOWDEN); that is the only explanation I have for their reported presence there. None of the recorded Kings County cemeteries have a grave for either of these people. Are they in Hants Co.--? Please help!

Bob Nichol
ROLFE's in Hants County

I am hoping someone can help me find my Rolfe's. My ggreatgrandfather was Annias Rolfe married to Margaret Cahill. All I know of him is that they had my greatgrandmother Jane Rolfe b. 1841 in Walton, Nova Scotia. Has any one heard of these people. I know about Jane as she married Samuel Vanner and they raised their family in Eastport, Maine. I would really like some infomation on Annias and Margaret, like parents, where they may be buried etc. I can only guess on birthdates which may be around 1819 or a little before giving the date Jane was born. I am willing to share the infomation I have from Jane down with any family members doing the same tree. Annias and Margaret are such a mystery. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. My e-mail address is lfrank@maine.rr.com Linda

I seem to have a missing link in time. I go back from Robert A. Rolfe 1849 & Annie Rolfe 1856, both born in Nova Scotia. Next in line is William Bert Rolfe 1818 & Emily Wright 1818 also both born in Nova Scotia. The next couple again born in Nova Scotia is Jonathan 1795 & Sarah Terhune. Next is John 1750 born in Nova Scotia & Michel Fish 1737 born in Rhode Island.
Now is when the mystery starts. I have John Rolfe 1714, with no birth place or wife name. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Nancy Rolfe Richmond

Kennedy & Rines Family Windsor & Maitland, Hants Co Nova Scotia >>Portland Maine

Recently I discovered that my great great grandfather THOMAS KENNEDY b abt 1825-30 prob Windsor, Hants Co Nova Scotia Canada, was the son of JOHN KENNEDY b abt 1800 Ireland and ELIZABETH BETSEY RINES b abt 1800, Maitland, Hants Co, Nova Scotia Canada. They were married about 1818 in probably Maitland.

According to an 1887 letter by HENRY J RINES b 1826 Nova Scotia died 1871 Portland Cumberland Co ME, JOHN KENNEDY & his family lived at Windsor NS and then moved to Lubec, Washington Co ME, where John Kennedy died. I have found him there 1840 US census Lubec, Washington Co ME, with his eldest son JEREMIAH KENNEDY b abt 1818 prob Windsor NS.

JOHN KENNEDY's widow, my ggg grandmother ELIZABETH RINES KENNEDY, moved with some of her children, including my gg grandfather THOMAS KENNEDY, to Portland, ME by 1850. She is in census there 1850-1870.

I have copies of the original 1887 document, as well as a transcription by Kathy Waters, the researcher who sent them to me.

My ggg grandmother ELIZABETH BETSEY (RINES) KENNEDY b 1800 Maitland NS was the daughter of JOHN RINES Jr b 1766 and ELIZABETH McDONALD;
and the grandaughter of JOHN RINES b 1730s-40s & ELIZABETH TOAL. I am uncertain at this time if these two JOHNs were born Nova Scotia or in Massachusetts.

I have just begun to research my family in Nova Scotia. The 1887 letter does, however, give a full list of the children of all these couples and names most of their spouses.

Would be interested in comparing notes with anyone researching these families in Hants Co Nova Scotia

Hi, After a long break from my family search I am back hoping someone can help me.

My Great Grandmother was Annie May Crowell of Three Mile Plains who married Robert Mason of Rawdon. Her marrage slip list her parents as John and Catherine Crowell of Three Mile Plains. Annie May was born in 1883 and died in 1919 of TB. Does anyone have any information on John and Catherine Crowell ie. birth dates, other children or the parents of John Crowell.

The 1871 census for St.Croix list a John and Catherine Crowel as having children George 22 ,Anne 15,Silas 8 William 6 and Mary 19.

As my Annie May wasn't born until "1883" this cannot possibly be her family. According to her marriage slip,Annie May was born in Rawdon but lived in Three Mile Plains at the time of her marriage.

I have just found the death records for Annie May (Crowell) Mason on the new NS Archives web page and it list her father as John Crowell whose birth place was Newport, Hants County. It does not list her mother's name or birth place. Does anyone have a John Crowell of Newport in their family tree?

Thanks
