Looking for more info on this family who lived in Molega Gold Mines in the late 1800's/early 1900's. Samuel died in 1924 and Mary died sometime after 1927. They had 5 known children: Robert, Frances, Bertha, Amelia, and Virginia. Robert married Ethel Whynot but was killed in a mining accident in 1939. Amelia married an Alfred Wambolt. I am particularily interested in whether a family bible exists in the family to show Mary's lineage?? Are there any descendants of this family out there??

He was a son of Johann Peter Clattenburg and Maria Catherine (Schmidt) Clattenburg. One of Johannes and Anne Margaret Clattenburg's sons was John Conrad Clattenburg who was born on December 13, 1826 and died on August 30, 1912. He is buried in the Old Cemetery in Port Medway. His wife's name was Lydia Anne. I would like to know what her maiden name was and names of her parents as well. I'd be happy to hear from anyone having some information about this. Thank you.

Hello,

I would like to know the name of the Lohnes man who Arvilla Conrad was first married to, his parent's names, his date of birth and death. Arvilla Conrad was born in July of 1871 and was a daughter of Nathaniel Conrad and Mary Ellen (Wolfe) Conrad. Arvilla had two children with her first husband. They were Ralph Lohnes who was born on November 15, 1890. He was living with Charles and Elizabeth Conrad and listed as a "Domestic" in the 1901 Census. Joyce Lohnes was born on July 8, 1892 and was living with Abraham and Eliza Wagner and also listed as a "Domestic" in the 1901 Census. Arvilla Conrad's second husband was George Benjamin Croft and they were married on July 29, 1903. Georg Croft's parents were William Frederick Croft and Mary Elizabeth (Veinot) Croft of Riverdale. George and Arvilla were living in Milton in the 1911 Census. If anyone can be of any assistance with this, I'd be happy to hear from them. Thank you.

Thank you. I have worked alot this week to find more about Deborah. I think your are right, there are two THomas Embrees in that time frame, but I think the children you list all belong to the Thomas Embree of Chester, NS.

I think Deborah Hale and Deborah Bangs are one and the same as I have found 1786 marriage of Thomas Embree to Deborah Bangs (wid. Hale) in vital records in Chester. Since Bangs is a CC name, as is "Jane Chipman", (the name of one of the daughters), I thought Deborah Bangs Hale Embree might be from Harwich, MA. I found marriage of Deborah Bangs to John Hale in 1779 Harwich vital records, which supports my theory. Still I am trying to confirm this is the Deborah Bangs Hale in Nova Scotia, and also trying to find parentage of this Deborah (who married Hale) as there are several Deborah Bangs in Harwich and others are all accounted for.

Re-print of Planters and Pioneers has just arrived

Posted by permission of the message board administrator

I am pleased to announce that a limited edition reprint of Planters & Pioneers, Nova Scotia 1749-1775 (1982 Revised) by Dr. Esther Clark Wright has just become available. For those of you who may not be familiar with it, Planters & Pioneers contains years of research by Dr. Wright to determine pre-American Revolution settlers to Nova Scotia & New Brunswick from New England and many parts of Europe. The book is approximately 309 pages and includes information for more than 4,000 family leaders (25,000 names in total including family members) gathered meticulously from township records, registry of deeds, probate records, county and local histories, census records, family histories, genealogies, and so forth. Dr. Wright had hoped to publish future editions but the work ended with her passing in 1990. Planters & Pioneers is very rare because only a few thousand copies were printed nearly 25 years ago. Now it is available again for a limited time.

If anyone is interested in ordered a copy, or to get more information about the book, please feel free to contact me off the message board through visiting www.plantersandpioneers.com .

Kind regards,

Justin Wentzell,
Beaver Bank, Nova Scotia

Looking for information on Johann George RINGER and Mary SPAHRWASSER; their son, George, and his wife, Eunice FREEMAN, and their children. George (husband of Eunice) held the original Crown grant to the farm I lived on as a child (on the Queens-Lunenburg county line). According to both the 1827 and the 1838 census, he and his family appear to be living on their second Crown land grant at the western end of Pleasant River.

The four key questions I hope to answer: (1) Who are the four females living in the RINGER family in 1827. Eunice + who? (2) When and where did Eunice die? (3) Where is George buried? (4) When did George and Eunice leave Pleasant River? Casting a wide net ... All information appreciated. Thanks!

Minard Levi Dr. Died 1884

At Brooklyn, Newport, June 7th, Dr. Levi Minard, in the ( I can't make this out but appears to be ---- 68th) year of his age. Dr. Minard was born at Milton, Queens County, where he spent the early part of his life. He has been for years a resident of Hants County. He has been known as a practicing physician and manufacter of of medicine. Minard's Liniment has rendered his name a household word throughout the land. He has in this way been the means of good to many. He was a good man, as very many do testify; not only to do good, but to be good was the aim of his life. He has been for many years a faithful member of the Church of the Disciples, and will be greatly missed by that communion. His long sickness though very trying at times, was borne with a meek and quiet spirit. He leaves an aged widow at Brooklyn and a daughter and family at Milton, and many friends to mourn their loss. The writer was by his special request called upon to attend the funeral at the house, a short sermon was preached from Phil. 1. 21. "To die is gain." May the Lord sustain the afflicted. ---- Com. by Rev. A. Freeman.

From the Baptist paper: The Christian Messenger: 1884:June 18th issue: Page 8

The Empire Sun was torpedoed at 45 55 N 64 22 W, off the coast of Nova Scotia on 7 Feb 1942, having just crossed the Bay of Fundy, after leaving the USA earlier in the day. Many of the crew and others aboard managed to row to shore and were collected at Liverpool, Nova Scotia. My father was one of the survivors. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has information about this.

Incidentally, I have Thomas Head Raddall's book 'In my time: a memoir' which devotes a couple of pages to the story of the sinking and what followed.

I am seeking ancestors on my father's side. My grandfather's name was Henry White. His father, Harry or Henry seems to have changed his name from Overmass to White and according to census records, was born in Devon, England. My grandfather married Jenny Welsh of Clyde River, daughter of Samuel and Henrietta Welsh (possibly Walsh or Welch). I have lost touch with relatives in Milton area, and am hoping that someone who sees this will be able to provide me with contacts or information. Thanks.
Hello,

I'm looking for information on the parents of Lydia Whynot who married Alexander Clattenburg of Port Medway, Nova Scotia on September 23, 1872. Alexander Clattenburg was born on March 17, 1852 and was a son of John Conrad and Lydia Anne (MacAuley) Clattenburg. According to the marriage record, it states that Lydia's parents are Daniel and Catherine Whynot who lived in Liverpool. If anyone has any information about Lydia's parents, I'd be happy to hear from them.
I'm also looking for the parent's names of Solomon Whynot who was born around 1841. He was married to Deliah and I don't know what her maiden name was. They had a daughter Florence Catherine Whynot who was married to Jacob Demone and they had a daughter named Sarah Eliza Demone who was married to Edward Dimmock Gaskell of Port Medway. In the 1871 Census, Solomon and Deliah Whynot were living in Port Medway and in the 1881 Census they were living in Greenfield. If anyone has any additional information on this Solomon Whynot, I'd be happy to hear from them as well. Thanks in advance.

Douglas ancestors

I am looking to find out more of my ancesters in Nova Scotia and Scotland. My great grandfather was William Douglas, born 1854, and his wife was Jane, born 1853. They had three children Ralph, Clayton, and Cora. I have known Cora. I have info from Milton Douglas' bible linking the Douglas family to Eckford,Scotland. The Douglas family can be traced to Mailfield, Parrish Eckford, Rosleyshire, Scotland. James and Jane were the parents of Margaret,James, Agnes, John, Robert, and Barbery. Robert and Barbery were twins. John was born January 12, 1794. John left Scotland in the spring of 1815 to come to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. John came to Liverpool, Queens County, Nova Scotia. Milton Douglas'descendants can be traced to Caledonia, Queens County, Nova Scotia and Shelburne, Nova Scotia. I'd like to know more of the other Douglas ancestors, if anyone can help. Thanks for any possible help.

Robert Dolliver Vaughan

Robert Dolliver Vaughan, born 20 Nov 1851 in (probably) East Port Medway, one of 15 children of Anthony and Lucinda (Cahoon) Vaughan, emigrated to Massachusetts in 1872, died after 1911 in Coaticook, Stanstead Co, Quebec, occupation was bootmaker. Some NS sources refer to him as "the preacher," an unusual label for someone so young. Does anyone familiar with East Port Medway have any further info on him and his "calling"? (He's my great-grandfather.)
