On the OPC free searchable database for Cornwall, there is the proof because Richard COUCH that married Mary SPEAR on Mar 29, 1834 in Lanlivery actually *signed* his name Richard Lee COUCH!!

see this record - http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-in...

I just checked my guess and his parents were Jerome COUCH + Mary LEE which explains his middle name!

That means that your Joseph COUCH is most definitely the one bpt Aug 8, 1836 in Lanlivery!

I have found Mary and son William in 1851 Census together; Joseph on his own as a servant; Richard Jr on his own as a house servant -- youngest son Thomas Spear COUCH was buried as an infant on March 15, 1842 in Lanlivery as per this record -- http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-in...
