I'm looking for information on John Morey. He is mentioned as an ex-slave that came to Canada with Chief Joseph Brant after the American Revolution. In some records, it says he married Joseph's youngest daughter Elizabeth (by his 3rd wife Catherine) but no children are ever mentioned. I have found a petition claim dated 1837 that states that John Morey came from Blenheim township to Brantford, at the request of Joseph Brant to live on the Six Nations Reserve on land given to his wife Elizabeth. My sticking point is that in this petition, it says "I am married to Elizabeth, the daughter of Sarah, a Mohawk woman"...This therefore, could not have been the same John Morey/Elizabeth that some sources mention. I know another John Morey (maybe his son) married a Mary Van Patter (descended from Prince Van Patter, another ex-slave. Anyone connected with these families that can shed some light? I have not been able to get definitive proof of John being married into the Brant family..but that's the story handed down to the Morey descendants.
