Emigration from Ontario to Manitoba

I am researching the settling of the Boyne Settlement (now the Town of Carman and Dufferin Municipality) in Manitoba in the 1870s and 1880s. Most of the settlers came from Ontario and I would appreciate hearing from anyone whose ancestors moved to the settlement then and who can provide some information on their background.

At the moment I know that members of the Clarke family from Huntley Township moved to the Boyne.
Irish Palatines in Goulbourne

Looking for information on any Irish Palatine families in Goulbourne or surrounding townships.

Trying to trace GGGGrandmother Elizabeth Cronaverry. John Sparling and Elizabeth Cronaverry (Cronsberry) were believed to have married c. 1821 in Ireland and emigrated to Canada shortly thereafter. Rumour has it that the initially stayed with relatives of Elizabeth at the Richmond Military Settlement before relocating to Shawville in Pontiac County Quebec. I know there were some Palatines with the Talbot Group who settled in Hazeldean and this may or may not be where Elizabeth's relatives were. It is possible that the oldest children were born before the move to Shawville as they were all baptized in Shawville in 1827.

I have some Cronsberry information from Ireland but am unable to place Elizabeth. Does this look familiar to anyone, or are there any recommendations for research in the area ?

Wife: Elizabeth Cronaverry

Born: ABT. 1801 in: Ireland

Died: in:

Husband: John Sparling
Married: 1821 in:

Born: 1788 in: Ireland

Baptized: 08 Jun 1788 in: Parish Ch, Rathkeale, Limerick, Ireland

Died: 05 Feb 1868 in:

Buried: 07 Feb 1868 in: St. Paul's Cemetery, Shawville, Quebec
Father: George Sparling
Mother: Catherine Stark

1 Mary Ann Sparling Born:
2 Albert Sparling Born:
3 Catherine Sparling Born: 1822
4 Elizabeth Sparling Born: 29 Oct 1823
5 John Sparling Born: 27 Aug 1825
6 Margaret Sparling Born: 27 Mar 1827
7 Eleanor Sparling Born: abt 1828
8 Thomas Sparling Born: 14 dec 1830
9 Philip Sparling Born: 14 oct 1834
10 Samuel Sparling Born: 18 May 1836
11 Sarah Sparling Born: 6 May 1838
12 Catherine Sparling Born: 1841
I'm looking to tie in a loose branch of the family. Starting with the current generation:
Richard & Connie Moore, who were in Ottawa (Orleans) in 1987. They had two children, Christopher James (who died in 1897 at age 13) and Jason.

Richard was the son of Frederick T. Moore of Toronto (as of 1970). Frederick also had a son James who lived in Toronto (as of 1970).

Richard's grandparents were William James Moore (1890-Feb 4 1970) and Winifred Adelaide Lambert (Jan 6 1891 - May 19 1966)

So, if any of this rings a bell, please reply.

I am researching my great grandfather Joseph Napoleon JULIEN and his wife Ida Elizabeth REEVES. Napoleon and Ida were married on the 23 Apr 1872, Ottawa Canada. Napoleon is the son of Jospeh JULIEN and Flave ANGER. Ida is the daughter of John REEVES (REAVES/REVES) and Catherine Josephine d'Artois. Napoleon died in 1886.

Ida remarried in June 1888 to a Thomas PRICE. Thomas was the son of Edward PRICE and Margarite GIBBONS. Thomas's deceased wife is Isabella COSTELLO. I have found two children from this marriage so far. Maria Margarita Ethel PRICE born 1889 and Richard John PRICE born 1890.

I would be interested in corrsponding with anyone researching the family names.

Jackie

My great grandfather, Henri Oscar Christin, may have married my great grandmother, Augustine Cloutier around 1900. They had three children, Henri Arthur, Antoinette and Charles Christin. They may have married in L'Assomption, Quebec or Trois-Rivieres, or Riviere de Prairie, or Montreal! My grandfather, Henri Arthur Christin, was born 1906, so the year 1900 is an estimate of their marriage date.
She died in Ottawa in approx. 1922 -- I have no knowledge of who I may be related to in the Cloutier family, although there is a story that Suzanne Cloutier (the actress married to Peter Ustinov) was her niece.
Is this information familiar to anyone searching the Cloutier line? I would be very grateful for any information! Thanks.

I believe this is the Angeline that I am searching for with parents Joseph Aceti and Agnes Couvillion
(the spelling of both these names vary quite a bit in different documents). I do not know when she was born or died or how old, cause of death or where buried. In 1923 according to the death record of Elizabeth, they lived at 58 Hampton Ave, Ottawa. She is buried at Beechwood Cemetery.
Are there Ottawa direcctories for this period which would be available for interlibrary loan or would some kind soul do a lookup to verify this info? Would the names of any children be given?
Charlotte Whitton, Mayor of Ottawa

My mother is getting on in age and has expressed an interest in tracing our family tree. I have just started this adventure but have been told and have seen my mother's cards from her great aunt Charlotte. It did not occur to me at the time to ask for her last name. Was I ever surprised to find out that it was the Charlotte Whitton, the past mayor of Ottawa (Carlton county). Mother had assumed that I had that figured out. I was hoping that since she was such a promenient figure that one of your association's members might have a past history for her. My mother's family is from Deseronto, Ontario. Her name is Marjorie Frances Davis ( nee Whitton). Her parents were James and Jessie Whitton. She had several sisters and brothers: Margaret, Helen, Frank, Jean, Mabel and Violet. She is the last of this line of children. I would appreciate it if you have information regarding a link to mom. It is very hard for her to remember connections now. Thank you in advance for your help.

Her sister Alice Roberts b. 1889 was sent over too.

I found a marriage record showing that Alice married James G R Young on 14th Feb 1911 @ Drummond Court in County of Lanark, Ontario.

James Young was aged 31 yrs (b. abt. 1879) – a Farmer – of Saskatchewan. His parents were Adam & Margaret Young of Drummond County. Adam was a Tailor.

The witnessess were Emma Roberts of Carleton Place (Alice's sister)and John Walbeh or Walker of Drummond.

I would be very grateful for any information or help in finding out what happened to both girls. Also, I would love to find out about their descendents.

An old aunt, aged 80, has asked me to try to find out about them as her side of the family have been looking since early 1900's. The girls were separated from their 2 brothers and 4 sisters when the orphanage sent them away.

Maureen

Looking for information about Brazeau familys from the Neapean area and Clarendon Quebec for the year 1818-1840. My family Braziers spelled their surname so many ways that it is hard to research so I am trying the different spellings they used. Francis Brazier b 1818 married Diana Moore from Neapean in 1840. The marriage took place in Renfrew County. I know nothing of Francis other than the fact he is French Canadian. Anyone researching this line?
Thanks
Pat

A 1967 obituary for David James Kerr, of Brandon, Manitoba, listed one of his survivors as William Terrence Kerr, of Ottawa. This son was probably born in Neepawa, Manitoba. There is a William Terrence Kerr buried in the Pinecrest Cemetery in Ottawa (Baseline Road). I am guessing that William Terrence would have been born 1920-1925. If anyone can provide a date of death for this individual in the Pinecrest Cemetery, I would very much appreciate it.

Sam Hall

I have bit of marriage information for some of them - willing to share.

I have some names but there is a possibility there could be as many as eleven children( unverified).I believe all the children were born in Ireland,in the eighteen hundreds.Did all the children come to Canada with James and Ann in the 1880s? The 1901 census gives a couple of names of the children, but would like to know if any other children were on the same census? Thank you,Wayne

GALLIGAN, Fitzroy twp, from Co. Cavan, Ireland

I’m trying to figure out the connection between various Galligan (Gallaghan) heads of household in Fitzroy township. They all come from Co. Cavan, Ireland, and they’re obviously related because they’re on the same land (concession 4, lot 9) and they show up in each other’s church records as godparents, witnesses and etc.

Michael Galligan, born Cavan c. 1812, marries (presumably in Canada) an Elizabeth (maiden name unknown), born Co. Longford c. 1821. According to the 1842 census, Michael is the first of these Galligans to arrive, about 1834.

Denis Galligan, born Cavan c. 1815, marries (presumably in Cavan) Margaret (Cahill?), born Cavan c. 1817. In the 1842 census, he reports that he has been in Fitzroy for 2 years.

More Galligans arrive in the 1840s:

Thomas Galligan, born Cavan c. 1824, marries (presumably in Cavan) Anne, born Cavan c. 1825. Thomas Galligan and family not found in Fitzroy in the 1861 census.

Patrick Galligan, born Cavan c. 1811, marries (in Cavan) Mary Cullen, born Cavan c. 1812. This family emigrates between 1844 and 1851, with (at least) 5 children. Mary Cullen dies before 1851 census.

John Galligan, born Cavan c. 1826, marries (mid 1850s) Ellen McGee, daughter of Bernard McGee and Helen Mantle. This is probably the John Galligan who is living with Thomas Galligan in 1851, at which point he is still single. I think John Galligan and Ellen McGee move to Renfrew Co.

There is a widowed Ann (maiden name unknown, possibly Comerford) Galligan, born Cavan c. 1786, living with Thomas Galligan in 1851. In 1861, she is living with Michael Galligan. She must be somebody’s mother (unless she’s somebody’s aunt).

Also in the Fitzroy area is a Catherine Galligan, born Cavan c. 1821. She marries: 1. Peter Denis (Pierre St. Denis?), in 1853; 2. Martin Hagerty, in 1871. Her parents are Denis Galligan (not the above Denis Galligan, who is only 6 years older than Catherine, but possibly his father?) and Ann Comerford.

Are these Galligans all siblings? Or cousins? Or some of them siblings and some of them cousins? Any information would be much appreciated.
