Am looking for help in searching for Reuben S. She then marries Reuben S. Tink in 1904 in Huron County; a neighboring community.

Jennie had a previous marriage January 26, 1887 to James Bell, b. 1845 who also had a previous marriage in November 18, 1864, Perth County Ontario to Margaret Hamilton, b. 1844

Reuben S. Reuben and Hannah (Brown) Tink had one known child together, Eliza Whilemena Tinck, b. October 3, 1879 Wentworth County

Reuben S.

I am trying to locate the gravesite for Duncan McFarlane, born in Guelph abt. 1834. He lived in Puslinch then moved to Dundas, Ontario working as a machinist. Eventually he became the co-owner of Maw & McFarlane Foundry in Dundas. He died in April 1882 at the young age of 48. His family including his wife Minnie moved to Vancouver after his death. I have been able to locate their gravesites but have not been able to find his. Which I assume is located somewhere in the Puslinch/Dundas area. He had a son Angus who only lived for a few months. I would think they are buried together somewhere in the area. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Regards,

Lyle

Note: This is a repost of a message originally posted in 2001. I am still VERY anxious to learn something about this family - help please.

Searching for my gg-grandfather James Slattery (b. c. 1835 Ireland?, d. c. 1884), wife Ellen (Howard) Slattery (b. c. 1883 Ireland, d. c. 1898 possibly Dundas, Ont.). Their known children were Mary Victoria Slattery (1855-1926?, married John D. Cray), Annie Slattery (1861-1887?, married John H. Barrett), John Edward Slattery (1866-1939?, married Catherine Taafe), and Patrick J. Slattery (1867-1914?, married Mary Lynch). It is likely that Ellen died in or near Dundas. Any or all of the children may have been born there also. I would really appreciate hearing from anyone with knowledge of this family or ideas on how to dig deeper in this search.
Jim Rhodes

Surname: DILLENBACH/DALLENBOUGH/tELLEPAUGH/TILLEPAUGH

Hello,
I am researching a family name that came down to us as Tillapaugh in our gggrandmother. I have learned this name has been spelled MANY ways, at least 20, and is a branch of the Dallenbach's that came from Switzerland around 1710 to New York. Some remained loyalists and received land in Canada. The place names Onasbruck, Matilda, and Williamsburg are mentioned in family records. The father was John Christian Dillenbach, b. 1742, NY, m. to Anna Margretha Stix, and these children also came to Canada: Chrisian, b. 1771, Peter, b.1773, David,1782, Joseph, Mary, Nicholas, John, Martin. Possible 2nd wife, Barabara Thomman. Most of my info came from a book called, "The Dallenbach's in America," which is available at Ancestry.com. Unfortunately, the Canadian branch of the family did not send records to be included when this book was written. I believe our grandmother is from this branch of the tree in Canada. Would appreciate any contact with anyone able to help with cemetery or church records. Thanks.

The last name is written Baley --- John - age 50, Catherine - age 48, Elisa J. - age 20, Thomas - age 18, Mary - age 16, John - age 14, Juliann (?Anna) - age 12, Maryera (?Marjorie) - age 7, Elizabeth - age 6. Also the household entry lists Catherine Robinson - age 14, Jane Robinson - age 2 and Margret Robinson - born Oct. 1881.

The entry in the Empey website for Mary Bailey states her mother is Catherine McDonald when the marriage record I found states it is Catherine Haines.

The entry in the Empey website for Marjory Bailey states her mother is Catherine McDonald when the marriage record I found states it is Catherine Haines.

I think I am really dealing with one family and not two. Can anyone confirm this.
I am looking for the death of James Weeks. He arrived from England in 1836 with his family, wife Elizabeth and sons William James and George.
His wife Elizabeth (40) is shown as a widow on the 1852 census living in St Andrews ward, Hamilton (city). Also shown is son George (16), three daughters have been born into the family while living in Canada the last one being Catherine Weeks aged 7.
So it would be reasonable to assume father James died after her birth circa 1845 and before 1852 when the cencus was taken.

Would anyone be able to look this up for me.

His daughter Jerusha Elizabeth listed father as George Nelson Barkley on her obit. Anyone with clues of origin of this German Lutheran situated in Barkley hometown area of Williamsburg would be appreciated. Perhaps he was another illegitamate son of a Barkley. He married Julia Baker a daughter of ???, no records for this marriage. Daughters got married 2 of them in April 1870, he was on 1871 Census but was not on 1881 census.

James Weeks, Hamilton, ON

I am looking for the death of James Weeks. He arrived from England in 1836 with his family, wife Elizabeth and sons William James and George.
His wife Elizabeth (40) is shown as a widow on the 1852 census living in St Andrews ward, Hamilton (city). Also shown is son George (16), three daughters have been born into the family while living in Canada the last one being Catherine Weeks aged 7.
So it would be reasonable to assume father James died after her birth circa 1845 and before 1852 when the cencus was taken.

Would anyone be able to look this up for me.

I am searching for my gggrandmother Mary Lucinda (WATTS) Mulliken. She was born 25 Sep 1839 in Dundas, Ontario, Canada. She came to the United States about 1857. She married Charles Hawley MULLIKEN on 20 Sep 1863 in Winnebago County, Illinois and they had 8 children. They lived in Illinois, Iowa, and finally in Michigan where she died between 1896 and 1908 in Lancing, Michigan. That is all I know of her. I want to know who her parents are, did she come alone to the US, and anything else I can find. Were there specific boarder crossings from this part of Canada to the US? If so, where? Was there things going on in the area at the time that would have made people leave? How do I find out what type of records are available in this area? Any and all information is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Dean of Hamilton, ON

I am looking for information regarding the Dean family who lived on Robins Ave. in Hamilton, Ontario. I know my father, George, was born in that home in 1914 and lived there until 1950. He was the third youngest of 4 brothers. Edward was the oldest, followed by James, then my father George, and finally Benjamin.

The boys' parents were Annie Mary Brown Dean and George Dean. I know that both of them came over from England sometime in the very early 1900s. George Sr. was from Liverpool England. Annie was from Grassmere Lake, England. Both were born in 1880. Annie died in 1953 and George Sr. died in 1943.

My dad moved to Ohio in 1950 to marry my mother, Rose Elizabeth Kranz in 1952 in Toledo, Ohio. I, Anna Mary Dean Bowers, was born to them in Urbana, IL in 1954.

I do not know the fate of my uncles Jim and Ed though I do know both married. I believe each had two children. Ed did have a son named Ed and a daughter named Josie, I believe. The youngest brother, Benjamin, left his wife and daughter behind in Hamilton, moving to Revelstoke, British Columbia where he married Irene and had 4 sons and a daughter named Dana. He and his sons ran a hunting lodge and lead hunting expeditions for many years. He died sometime in the early 1990s.

Any information regarding my father George Dean or any of the other family members mentioned would be most appreciated!

Henry Settle -- maybe Shettle

I am researching my husband's family. The last known ancestor I found was Fransis Shettle in Compton, Quebec with his family. This was the 1851 Canadian census. He would have been born in 1790, listed as born in Canada. His wife was listed as Sophah or Sophak. I am at a wall with this. I can find no other Shettle anywhere. The only descendant I can follow is his son, Moses, who came to Vermont and settled (my husband's gr-gr-gr-grandfather). The surname was changed when Moses moved and is now Shuttle !! I did find a Henry Settle in Mountain, Ontario and a Elijah Suttle in Matilda, Ontario. They were both born within 10-15 years of Fransis, both born in Canada (like Fransis) and one was listed as a Roman Cath. (as was Fransis). Anyone with any information ?? I would be extremely grateful !! I am wondering if there may be some connection between these men, considering the similar names. I know name
misspellings happened frequently ! Thanks !

Hi,

I am interested in corresponding with anyone who has Colquhouns who found their way to Canada in the late 1700s and settled in Wiliamsburg Township, Dundas County, Canada.

I have at least seven children descended from John Colquhoun (b. about 1754) and Marrion McHutcheon (McCutcheon) (b. about 1758). Their children's names were: Alexander (b. 1780); John (b. 1782); James (b. 1784); Peter (b. 1787); Lewis (b. 1861); Katharine (b. 1791) and Margery (b. 1794).

The "Story of Dundas" book by Carter states: "Alexander Colquhoun came from Scotland to Quebec in 1804. At the breaking out of the war of 1812, he received a commission as Lieutenant in the active militia of Canada, and settled at Hoasic, Williamburg Township."

I could use some help in sorting out who goes with whom. I have cemetery photos taken at the Colquhoun Cemetery in Williamsburg Township that I would be pleased to share with anyone who can help me put the puzzle pieces together.

Many thanks,
Kathryn

I have not yet completed my family tree so cannot post as I wish to make sure no mistakes are in it. I just saw one posting that had George Arthur Helmer and Clara Kathleen Myers having Beverley Helmer ( My father) and listed as female. Beverly Arthur Helmer, born 15 Oct.1924 died Sept.1996. George Arthur was born 24 Dec., 1885 and died 23 Dec. 1960, due to complications from an injury suffered in the first world war. George and Clara also had D'Arcy, Iris and another daughter who is still living. Beverly and wife, Maureen Piper had myself and son David who died in 1995 at age 37 yrs. Just thought I should clarify as the family has a tendency to use names which apply to both male and female.
Kathy Helmer

I am attempting to trace the genealogy of ancestor, Joseph Jackson, born circa 1812 in Northern Ireland. He evidently migrated to Canada sometime between 1830 and 1840 and settled in Mountain Township, Dundas County. In 1842 he married Elizabeth, born circa 1815 in Ontario. They had at least six children. I would like to find out where in Ireland he came from and in what year.

Thanks,

Dave Bresett, Merry Point, Virginia USA

1851 Census for Mountain

I've just finished the first draft transcription of the 1851 census for Mountain Township.
It is available to anyone intersted at no charge.
In this draft I have transcribed names as they appear even though it is obvious that many are spelled incorrectly. I may do an updated version which includes suggested family names to make it easier to search.

Richard H. Bolton married Lucretia Redmond in 1819. They lived at Iroquois, Dundas County, and then moved to Winchester. Then they moved to Inkerman where they stayed. They had 6 children. One of their children was Anne Bolton who married John Johnston. I believe that John is buried in Inkerman Cemetery. Anne and John went to California in the 1850s as part of a wagon train. Does anyone know where Richard Bolton and Lucretia Redmond are buried ? My guess would be Inkerman Cemetery.

At Maple Ridge there is a monument which is inscribed "Martin Baker died Jan 1, 1823 aged 77 yrs and his wife Catherine died Jan 15, 1828 aged 66 yrs.
Also on the same stone is "John Baker born Osnabruck, 1808 died june 28, 1885, also his wife Nancy Bigford died april 17, 1892 aged 76 years.
I believe this Martin Baker is the father of Martin Baker and John Baker who lived around Cass Bridge in Winchester twp.
What I cannot find is: Who were his parents? If they were from the Becker line from Schoharie NY, why does his birth date not match?
Any comments?

Searching for the parents of Duncan McDonald b. 15 June 1835 in Ontario (Dundas Co., I assume) married Isabella McLean 12 July 1860. Duncan d. 19 July 1916 and was buried at Springhill Cemetary in Carleton Co., Osgoode Twp. Isabella d. 2 November 1919 and was also buried at Springhill Cemetary. I am assuming that they settled in Dundas County near ORMOND because all of their children seem to have been born there.
Their children were:
1) Thomas Gillespie b. 26 Dec 1960, m. Mary Anne McVeigh (McVey) no date known, both are buried at Springhill Cemetery;
2) James Menzies, birth and death dates unknown, never married, buried at Ormond Protestant Cemetery;
3) William John b. unknown, m. Mary Jane Zufeldt (Suffel?) date unknown;
4) Alexander Duncan b. unknown, m. Margaret Agnes McCormick date unknown;
5) Lillie Annie b.29 June 1968, m. Robert Meldrum Carkner 3 Nov 1897, d. 13 Feb 1957, buried at Ormond Protestant Cemetery;
6) Mary Helen, birth and death dates unknown, m. Robert Stuart McVeigh (McVey, possibly brother of Mary Anne) date unknown;
7) Frances Isabella b. Feb 1875, d. 17 June 1882, buried at Ormond Protestant Cemetery;
8) Margaret Isabella b. Sept 1977, d. 2 Mar 1878, buried at Ormond Protestant Cemetery;
9) Gracie Jane, birth and death dates unknown, m. Peter A. McPherson date unknown.
Duncan is my gggrandfather and Thomas Gillespie is my ggrandfather. I realize a lot of dates are missing and I would like to fill them in. If anyone has any information on this McDonald (of Clanranald) family, I would appreciate hearing from you. You can email me at lacadian@hotmail.com.
Thank you,
Diane LaCavera

Looking for information re Hugh Rose and wife Hannah Sipes both buried at Van Camp cemetery. Andrew Sipes, f/o Hannah is found in the Toronto area where he died 1831. My Daniel Rose family is found in Niagara 1787 with a son Hugh, Samuel, Alexander. Oddly Eve Sipes d/o Andrew married a Samuel Rose and Catherine Sipes also d/o Andrew married Alexander Rose. Did 3 sons of Daniel Rose all married to Sipes move to Dundas County or just a coincidence??
