Hello,

I'm looking for my great-grandfather, Valentine Baker, who arrived in Canada from Germany as a boy sometime around the mid-1800s, and settled with his parent(s) in Elgin County. Valentine had a son, my grandfather, named Herbert Thomas Baker (along with four other children). Herbert and his family - wife Evelyn, whose maiden name was Church, and son, Donald Herbert, born in 1903 - came west, along with Evelyn's father, William Church (also of Elgin County, I believe) in 1904, where they settled initially in Lumsden, Saskatchewan. Herbert operated a general store in Lumsden for about 14 years, after which the family (now numbering five with the arrival of my Dad in 1909 and my Auntie Florence in 1911) ventured further west to Calgary, Alberta, around 1918. Evelyn and Herbert remained in Calgary until their deaths in the 1960s and '70s respectively. Thank you for any information you might have on my ancestors.
