Jay: Another cousin of yours from the Alexander JR line has been working on getting her UE status. She was working on John Grant, Duldreggan. However I told her to try Ann McDonell's background. Yes, she knew Ann came north from the USA with her mother. Ann did receive land as a loyalist. However she was stuck on the name of the father. I suspect it may have been Donald McDonell as 2nd son usually named after Mother's father. Of course Alexander SR did not name his eldest John but Angus and that would be after his paternal grandfather.
Also the name Roy was not a given name in those days. It was from the Gaelic and meant red-head. So James Roy may have been a red-head hence the name. Anne Neuman
