I would like to know more about my great great grandfather and his wife – their parents, were they married in Canada or Scotland and where are they buried.
I would also like to know about my great grandfather and his wife as well – I don’t know when or where they were married or when/where they died and were buried. I don’t know anything about Christina – her parents etc.
What I do know:
Niel McIntosh is my great great grandfather, he was born in 1781 in Scotland, immigrated to Canada (year unknown). He was married to Cathine or Catherine born 1797 in Scotland (I think that her maiden name is McCuaig as my grandfather lived/worked for his cousin/uncle Duncan McCuaig in Portage Manitoba and I can’t really find any other family connections with that name). I don’t know if they were married in Scotland or met in Glengarry area of Ontario but their first child Donald (my great grandfather) was born in Glengarry in 1831. Niel had a younger brother Kenneth (born in 1795 in Scotland) and lived with Niel and Cathine and continued to live with Cathine after Niel died in 1869. The 1871 census puts Kenneth and Cathine living with Donald McIntosh and his family in Lochiel township . I don’t know when Kenneth died, I could not find him in the census 1881.
My Great Grandfather Donald McIntosh was born in 1831 in Glengarry. He married Christina Fraser (born 1837 in Ontario – parents unknown) in 1861 or 1862 as their first child Christine was born in 1862. As far as I can tell, they had a number of children: Andrew 1864, Mary, 1866, Niel 1868, My grandfather John 1871 (and a possible last child Angus born in 1880). I am not sure when Donald and Christina died, but I heard that they died when my grandfather was about 14 years of age, and my grandfather left Ontario and worked for a cousin Duncan McCuaig in Manitoba)
I don’t really know what happened to any of my grandfather’s siblings either, I don’t have any records and I can’t find anything about them. I do have 2 pictures of men who I thought were my grandfather, until I looked at the date, a time when my grandfather was in Saskatchewan – the pictures were taken by a photographer in Alexandria Ontario – one of a single man and another of a man, wife and 4 children.
