The entry reads: Cameron, John, b. 1753, farmer, res. Strathspey, sh. May 1774, fr.Greenock to N.Y., in George. (Pro.T47.12). The sh. stands for voluntarily shipped (as opposed to tr., which was involuntarily transported). There are many John Camerons listed but none are from Clunes. One is from Beauly, Inverness-shire in 1775. He arrived in Philadelphia. Both Peter Grant and his son John, applied for, and received land for their service to the King.
