I am very happy to make this connection with you!
I descend from Archibald's brother Alexander. Their father and mother are Donald and Flora. While the other sons headed out to work on railway construction, Alexander stayed on the farm. After his parents had died, he moved his family from St-Polycarp to Bridge End, near Glen Nevis, just across the Ontario border.
Archibald's family is a bit of a mystery, for sure. Given that Zoe was French and may not have spoken any English, I can imagine that her name may have been anglicized, but of course the children remained McDonalds, so that's far from certain. One of the replies to my other thread suggests that many folks from that area followed Father Chiniquy to Illinois, which seems plausible, but just a hunch. It will be fun to try and unravel that one! Do you know if the Eliza McDaniel/ Jacob Gray marriage was Catholic?
So where do you fit in, Lisa?
