Does anyone have any information on the above Bakeries...
My great grandfather Richard James Barlow came to Canada from London, England. Around the age of 10 he entered into the Boys home of Dr. Barnardo... Where he learned some skills at baking...The boys would bake some 600 loaves a day for all the homes...He immigrated in 1884 at age 14 years through the Dr. Barnardo's Home Children Plan... He worked on a farm for Elijah Smith in Villa Nova until Mr Smith died... Richard Barlow then worked for various Bakeries... Risdills Bakery, Smucks Bakery, and he ran his own bakery shop in Hagersville...and at one time ran the Jarvis International Hotel at Hwy 3 & 6 with his wife Mary Maude Day....
If anyone has any information on the bakeries and the Hotel... or if you know where I can look up the information....I would appreciate it...
