Kennedy/Nelles
I've been searching for Kennedy's that settled in Caledonia, Haldimand, Ontario around 1835's. Other towns mentioned in family history are Seneca, Cayuga, Onieda and Walpole.
These Kennedy's are in the 1861 and 1871 census and were recorded as of Irish decent. Most of the 1st generation children were born in Montreal or Upper Canada (Ontario) & Listed as of Angelican faith.
John Kennedy and wife Martha ? Had 12 children. Their 2nd son John R. Kennedy married Delilah Nelles. I know there were an abundance of Nelles' in Halidmand and that they came from the Mohawk valley of New York State prior to, during, and after the Revolutionary War.
I have also been told that the Kennedy and Nelles familes had other members that married into each others families.
I have a detailed geneology of the Nelles line back to the Palatine in Germany (thanks to Julia in Northern Calif.) that I would be happy to pass on.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. These Canadian Kennedys are an elusive bunch.
Thanks for reading,
Karen Kennedy Holmstead.
P.S. I've heard that the German Nelles line stopped in Ireland for a generation or two before immigrating to New York. Any historians out there that can verify this?
