Ireland; m. c1812 Eliza Johnstone (b. c1795 near Carrickfergus); rem. to Springvale, Walpole, Haldimand Co, Ont 1847; he possibly died in 1862 and she in 1864. James and Eliza (Johnstone) Bailey had 13 children, all came to Springvale in 1847.

1. Eliza Bailey b c 1814; m. "Mr Hagan" in Ireland 1847 (Family History = FH)
2. William Bailey b c1815; m.---- (possibly the Wm Bailey who m. Rebecca Dennison 8 Jan 1858?)
3. Susan Bailey, b c1817 m. Robert or David Roulston? FH says she married Robert but the Haldimand county vital records (VR) have David Roulston m. 17 Dec 1849.
4. Mary Bailey, b c1819; FH says she m. "Mr Tarem". the county VR show Mary Bailey m. Isaac Lamb 13 Sept 1851.
5. Isabella Bailey, b c1819 (Twin); m. "Mr Slack"; d. 1891 bur Springvale Cem. (FH)
6. Ann Bailey, b c1821; m. 14 Mar 1854 James McKeen (FH & VRs)
7. Robert James Bailey, b c1823; m1. c1857 Margaret (she died in childbirth, 1858 bur. Springvale Cem. (FH)); m2. c1859 Elizabeth (Betsy) White; removed to Kincardin, near Ripley, Bruce Co, Ont. (FH). Eldest son, James Bailey (of Margaret) removed to Chilliwack, BC c1878 (my great grandfather).
8. James Bailey, b c1824; d. 1851 (FH).
9. Rebecca Bailey, b c1825; m. "Mr McKeen"; d 1876 (FH).
10. Margaret Bailey, b c1828; m. "Mr Meehan"; bur. Haggersville Cem., Ont (FH)
11. Hannah Bailey, b c1830; FH says she m. "Mr Hagan" but, the VR shows m. 6 Sept 1856 William Hogan.
12. Jane Bailey, b c1834; m. "Mr Ingham"; d 1885, bur. Springvale Cem (FH).
13. John Bailey, b c 1836; d. 1921.

There were probably other families who came from Carrickfergus together with the Baileys but, they have not yet been identified. I would like to find out if there are cemetery inscriptions for Springvale because several of this family are said to be buried there. Also, we'd like to correspond with anyone related to this family.

UPTHEGROVE surname in Ontario in the late 1700s

Nancy Ann UPTHEGROVE born in Ontario circa 1805 married (1837) Dennis KELLEY (or O'Kelley) also born in Ontario circa 1805. According to RootsWeb's WorldConnect the couple had five children, at least one of whom, their daughter Amanda, is known to have been born in Ontario (in Wainfleet Township in 1845). Nancy and Dennis at some point moved their family to Wisconsin where Dennis died in 1850 and Nancy remarried.

Looking especially for information on the parents of Nancy and Dennis. I have found a John UPTHEGROVE and Ann OBRAM UPTHEGROVE living in the Niagara area in the late 1700s. They are said to have come over the border from the USA during or immediately after the Revolution. Ann is thought to have some blood relationship to Seneca Chief Cornplanter. From various online sources I found the names of three sons born in Niagara: Abram (born 1776) Peter (born 1779), and Benjamin (born 1785).

Trying to see if there is any tie-in for Nancy to this family...a daughter???

Any information would be most appreciated.

Hello Everyone,

I am looking for the parents of John Eagle b. 1844 (census says Germany) who married first Nancy Dennis and second her sister Margaret Dennis.
They were all living in and around Caistorville until sometime in the late 1800's when they moved most of the family to Essex County, Ontario. I am interested in finding the parents and siblings of John Eagle and or Margaret and Nancy Dennis.

Thanks so much,
Kimberly Hurst UE

Seeking info on a mill operated in Caledonia in the 1870's (at least) by McQUARRIE, THORBURN & MUNRO. I have a copy of the etching of the mill, but would like any background info. It was operated by Daniel (Donald) McQuarrie, and my Fraser relatives apprenticed there (John M. and James M.

My many great grandmother Rebeckah/Rebecca Robinson( b. abt. 1786, USA) married Joseph Mason (b. abt 1789, Montreal). They lived and had children in Glanford Tp right in the area of Mount Hope. Subsequest children claimed to be of French descent. All protestant of one flavour or another, usually Methodist.

In the 1881 census, the above Joseph has passed (1871). His son, Joseph (b abt 1827), is now in Oneida Tp, Haldimand Co. Also part of the household are his son David (b abt 1850), David's wife Mary Ann Burk (b abt 1851) and Rebecka above. There is also a child, age 8. The census is transcribed on Family Search as Sarah K A, but it's actually Rebecca.

I cannot find any of this family in the 1901 census anywhere in Canada or the USA. Rebeckah the elder died in 1882 and is buried in the Caledonia Cemetery.

Does anyone else have a clue as to where this family disappeared to, or perhaps is buried?

Note: there is another Mason family, that of David K. Mason. They are related.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Judith

He married Bessie, I'm not sure when, and died in Whiterock, (Southwestern BC, near Vancouver)in 1967. His grave is in Surrey, B.C. at Hazelmere Cemetary with his wife, Bessie. Possible names of brothers are: Sid, George, Sam, Adolphus. It seems that Sid and George came to B.C. also at some point. Please help if you know anything!!! I'm new to this game.
Family background: Darius Winger b. 3 Jul 1884, Ontario, d. 12 Mar 1925 buried St Paul’s Church Cemetery, Jarvis
Margaret Stursion/Sturgeon/Stewardson b.6 Aug 1849, Ontario, d. 20 Jul 1925 buried same location as Darius
Daughter #1, Edith Winger b. 3 Mar 1984 in Jarvis. Married Oscar Johnson 10 Jan 1924
Daughter #2, Sadie Winger b. 14 Aug 1885 in Jarvis.
Daughter #3, Emily Winger b. 4 Mar 1888 in Jarvis.
Daughter #4, Mary Maud Winger b. 14 Feb 1891 in Jarvis. Mary had four children with George Francis Jamieson. She married William Henry Jarvis 9 Nov 1917 in London, Ontario. 1901 Census shows whole Winger family together in Jarvis. 1911 Census shows only Darius and Margaret. I cannot find any Census listings for this family prior to 1901. Extensive searching does not show any birth registrations of any four Winger children nor can I locate this family anywhere prior to 1901. WINGER surname is fairly common in Haldimand County. Darius was the Sexton for St Paul’s church for a number of years. Can anyone suggest how a family may have disappeared for approximately twenty years? Any information would be appreciated.
From the census of 1900, it seems 3 of the sister's brothers moved to MI at the same time.
I am interested in communicating with others of these lines. Would appreciate any info. as to why there seems to be a large influx of people from the Haldimand, possibly all of Ontario, to MI. Also, it seems the above young Jacob and his son Richard had the middle name of Hazen, am wondering if this might be the last name of Margaret, wife of the older Jacob. Thanks

James Gordon, 27 - 1852 Census - Mystery

I am trying to find information on a James and Lea Gordon listed in the 1852 Census.
I believe they may be my family. Other then one name (Switch Jane with Sarah) they seem to match with +/- 1 year in the ages.
They would have moved to Michigan Shortly after this census.
Leah's maiden name would be Furlow.

Any information could be useful as I don't know how lucky I could be to have them be part of the surviving census. It could be a completely different family that closely matches who I am looking for.

1852 / Canada West / Haldimand (county) / 107 Cayuga township (north) / p. 29d, 30a, (59)

James Gordon 27
Lea Gordon 21
Jane Gordon 3
Stephen Gordon 2

All born in Canada West, and Methodist Episcopal Church

http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census52/View.jsp?id=6927&...

Thank-you

GORMLY/GORMLEY, MC KING marriage.

I have been researching Alice GORMLEY or GORMLY b. OCT 1829 in Ireland and settled in Cayuga North Township of Haldimand County sometime between 1840 and 1845. She wa the daughter of Peter and Jane. Siblings were Henry (b. abt. 1816), Patrick (b. abt. 1819), Michael (b. abt. 1821, John (b. 1825), Peter (b. abt. 1826), Jane (b. 1831), Thomas (b. abt. 1834) and Sarah (b. 1837) - all in Ireland.

I have found Alice in the 1851 census for Cayuga North, Haldimand, Ontario - she is listed as 22 years old.

I found her again in the 1900 census for Lenox, Macomb, MI. She is listed as 71 years old, born OCT 1829 in Ireland. She is a widow and a farmer who came to the US in 1860. She had 5 children - 4 living. She is listed living with her sister Jane. Her married name is MC KING.

I do not have any other information on her at this time. I do not know if she married before coming to the US or after arriving. Sister Jane also states that she migrated in 1860.

Many of the other siblings and their offspring migrated to Macomb, St. Clair and Lapeer Counties over the next fifteen years.

I would appreciate any information you may provide, especially who Mr. MC KING may have been.

William Morrison

HALDIMAND PRESS ARTICLE 12-10-1987 ABOUT LINK FAMILY

I have just been sent a copy of a picture of the Link family and their story in Haldimand, Pt. Colborne and Cayuga from a friend. She got it from a 'cousin' in Canada somewhere. It's dated 1987 and shows Marvin Link, Veda Richert, Elsie Richert Pearl Walker, and Norman, Elmer and Earl Link. They are the children of Jesse and Alberta Link. They are related to me, and I would LOVE to hear from anyone in these families! Jesse Link was the son of Jacob Link Jr. Jacob's parents were Jacob and Anna Strom Link. Anna and Jacob also had a daughter, Catherine, who is my great grandmother, and who married George Colburn Herron. They moved first to Port Huron and had 2 children there, and then moved farther north in Michigan to Alpena, and lived the rest of their lives there, having 13 children.

I really would LOVE to be in contact with any of the Link descendants in the Haldimand area or those that are related to them. I know that there are other Links in the general area, but am not sure if they are related to us, or how.

It is my understanding that the town of Dunnville, Ontario is named for the Receiver General of Canada, John Henry DUNN. I am interested in tracing him, because the family story is that my ancestors on my grandfather's mother's side stem from the family that founded Dunnville.
Hi All,

I am seeking information about a FLYNN family that settled in what may be Cayuga North Township. What I do have is minimal. Margaret FLYNN married Michael GORMLEY/GORMLY about 1844/45. In the 1851 census for Cayuga North they are listed with three sons: Henry (1845), Thomas (1847) and Peter (1850).

I am seeking the parents and any siblings of Margaret and the date of marriage of Margaret and Michael.

I thank you in advance for any help that you may provide.

William Morrison

I am looking for info on Dunville. From my understanding, it was not a white settlement until 1828,yet my ancestor Jacob Lambier was born there in 1818.We are not sure of his ethnic identity. In an old photo he is seen wearing a Metis scarf,as his descendants did as well. This family has affiliations with the United Empire Loyalists.Does anyone know anything about Dunnville in 1818 ? or have any ties to the Lambier family? their location after Dunville was Cayuga, then ultimately Missouri.
Regards,
Heather

My ggrandfather, Adam William WEAVER (7/1/1817-4/1/1880), lived in Haldimand Co from 1857 - 1871. His occupation was a mason and his origin is given as German. He married Caroline M. SEARS on 8/28/1842 in Essex Co. His children were Helen WEAVER WILLIAMSON ( 1843-1911), Francis (1845-1862), James (1848-1881), Sarah WEAVER FESTER GREGORY (1852-1927), Joseph (1857-1903), Cora WEAVER WHITESELL WERDEHOFF (1864-1923). The last two children born in Haldimand Co.

I am trying to find out who his parents were and where they are buried. He lived next door to another Adam WEAVER (married to Hannah) in the 1861 & 1871 Haldimand Co censuses. This Adam WEAVER died in 1872. However, all information indicates that the two Adams are not related.
If anyone has any information on the Adam that died in 1872 that proves or disproves the relationship, I would appreciate hearing from you also.

I'm trying to figure out any and all information about this family. John and Margaret Anderson had at least four children:

Emily L. (b. 1871)
Albert (b. 1875)
Jesse (b. 1877)
Roderick (b. 1879)

As I understand, John's family escaped the American Colonies during the Revolution as they were Loyalists. Family stories go on to say that the family lived near the Georgian Bay prior to moving to St. Clair County, Michigan, so I've been looking in the 1871 census. A John Anderson in Walpole most fits what we know about him - Born about 1830 and a farmer.

The family lived in St. Clair Co., Michigan in 1880 but were gone by 1885. His daughter Emily was married in Sanilac Co., Michigan, north of St. Clair in 1887, but none of her family appears in the US census after that. It's unclear if they moved back to Canada or if they were living in somewhere else in 1890 (the US census is gone), and by 1900, one cannot even find her brothers in the US census.

Sure would appreciate any help whatsoever!

Sure could use some help...all of the above families came from Ireland in the early 1800's

Thomas Carroll (Born 1840) son of John Carroll(Carrol) and Mary Keltete (Not sure of spelling came from marriage record) married Agnes Dalton(born 1843) daughter of Thomas Dalton and Catherine Shannessy (married July 3, 1861)
Thomas and Agnes (Dalton) Carroll moved to Saginaw ,Mich. ABT. 1870 with 3 or 4 children. They then had the afew more children in Saginaw with Thomas passing away in 1893.

The 1851 census for Oneida, Haldimand ,Ontario shows that Agnes Mom had died that year ..How could I go about finding her death record and also the date of her father death.I do not know when or if her parents married in Ireland or Canada ..The same with Thomas Carroll,s parents, it seems they sem to be in the same area of Ontario from Thomas,s birth on.

I sure would love to hear from anyone whom could give me some ideas on how to follow these people back to Ireland. Thanks Sandy

ROBERT H. FOLLICK (1848-1911), son of Jacob and Rachel

Five or six years ago there were several posts seeking information concerning the children of Jacob and Rachel FOLLICK.

I may be able to account for one of their sons, Robert H. FOLLICK. In 1874 he married Mary CHAMBERS, the daughter of Daedalus CHAMBERS and Martha Jane WOOLLEY of South Dorchester, Elgin County, Ontario. This is the marriage registration:

#001639-74 (Elgin Co) : Robert H. FOLLOCK, 26, farmer, Camber Ont., South Dorchester, s/o Jacob & Rachel, married Mary CHAMBERS, 22, South Dorchester, same, d/o Daedalus & Jane, witn: William FOLLOCK & William APPLEFORD, both of S. Dorchester, 5 July 1874 at Mapleton, Yarmouth twp

Camber given as Robert's birthplace may be a misspelling of Canborough.

Robert and Mary can be found in the 1880 US Census in Peasanton Twp., Manistee County under the name "FALLICK". They had one son, Courtland/Cortland. They are buried in Pleasanton Township Cemetery and photos of their gravestones can be viewed at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mi/tsphoto/manistee/pleasa...

These dates are on the stones:

Robert H. 1848 - 1911
Mary 1854 -1891
Cortland 1876 -1957
There are two other Follicks in this cemetery (G. Enos and C. Herbert) that I have not been able to account for.

According to the IGI at the FamilySearch site, Robert may have remarried after the death of Mary to Louisa Keeler MCGILL. The marriage date given is 31 May 1901.

My grandfather's first wife was Josephine CHAMBERS, a younger sister of Mary CHAMBERS FOLLICK. My grandmother was his second wife. I have no further information regarding this Follick family.

Sharon
Welland, Ontario

William & Hulda's daughter Caroline Winkworth married Frederick Thurlby. Their son Alexander Thurlby married my grandfather's sister Pearl May Mitts.

William & Hulda's son Robert Winkworth married Miriam Louise Hatch, my paternal link.

Other children of William Winkworth & Hulda Carpenter & their marriages:

Catherine E. Winkworth to William Martin
Harriet Winkworth to Daniel Cavanagh
Hannah Winkworth to Oliver King

Mary Ellen Winkworth - I don't believe she ever married.

Another maternal link to the Winkworth family I am interested in finding more about. Edward Winkworth - parents are William & Hannah (?) Winkworth married Mary Wintermute, daughter of Alfred & Hannah.
