Thank you so much for all this valuable information. You have been incredibly helpful. It looks like the father had to "farm out" his children after his wife died, which probably explains why my mother's grandfather never talked about his life in Cananda much.
James Moffatt moved to North Dakota around 1892, and the father, William came to live with him shortly after that. William died here in America, and is buried near James Moffatt's farmstead, near Hannah, ND.
I have no idea when William emmigrated, and unfortunately the name William Moffat doesn't seem to be all that uncommon. Since no one in the family ever asked many questions, it will be a challlenge to find him in Scotland. Thank you so much for providing such wonderful information about his life after arriving in Canada. If you are in Spain, I am very amazed at your genealogical skills - I live just south of Canada, and you've done much better than I have!! How did people do this before the internet!??!
