I have done that with no luck so far. His widow, Annie Elizabeth Henning (Whitely) died in 1918 WW1 in France where she was a Nurse in the army.In the 1901 and 1911 census she is listed as a widow, so I know that narrows his death to between 1898 and 1901, after he is on a voter's list and before the census. They married in 1895-no children, and I have tried to track his death date down through his siblings and parents. There is a "James Whitley (no e) " who died 26 Sept. 1899 in Toronto, York, Ontario that might be him.
Other members of the family are buried in the Maitland Cemetery in Goderich. They were Wesleyan Methodists.
