Several Powell families living in Huron County but no Gregory or John.

Death: George Fortune, died 15 Nov 1911, b 27 Feb 1827, 84yrs8mos, farmer, widower, s/o John Fortune b Scotland & Jannett McArthur b Scotland, informant:John W Fortune of Wingham, fractured right hip, hypostalic congestion of lungs with cardiac failure, Turnberry Huron County, Registration # 015848.

Death: Janet Fortune, b 13 Nov 1836 Quebec, died 10 Aug 1920, d/o Peter McArthur b Scotland & Barbara Mclaughlin b Scotland, informant: John W Fortune, son, of Wingham, died of heart failure, Turnberry Huron # 019375.
Don't understand why above George Fortune is listed as widower on his death registration.

IF you haven't already, there is a George Fortune and family in the 1881 census on LDS as well as a Pedigree Resource File back to Scotland.

I am married to Daryl B. Rintoul who is the son of Louis Henry Rintoul. Louis had 6 brothers, Arther, Herbert, Robert, James, Norman, and Lawrence and 4 sisters, Edith, Jean, Mary, and Jessie who died at age 8. Louis's fater was Robert Alexander Rintoul. I was told that Robert was married to ida Wilhema Herold. Robert had one brother- Tom and two sisters-Belle and Ellen...When Louis passed away in 2006 I found some papers that and the name Latimer was mentioned..

The 1901 census shows her birthdate as June 30, 1858.

Yes I have all of the children you have listed but I only had two definite dates of death......Maggie Stokes who married William John Ballagh died August 15, 1959 in Culross, Ontario and is buried in the Culross Teeswater Cemetery and David Omar Stokes who married Elsie Frances Teskey who died August 7, 1964 in Wingham, Ontario and is buried in Wingham Cemetery.

Do you have much information on the descendants of Thomas Stokes and Margaret Query?

Hi,

I have some information on the Jordan side of your request.
Ethel Jordan was the daughter of Edward Jordan [b. ~ 1849, d. 1918, m. to Sarah Manning (1857-1921)]. Siblings were
Flossy, Emily, William, Lena, Erma, Alma. Edwards parents
were Thomas and Eliza Jordan, who I believe came from Ireland during the Potato Famine around 1850. Their names
are in the 1851, 1861 and 1871 Census records (under Jordon
in the on-line Canadian Archives Census Lookup).

My side of the family was from John Jordan, who was a brother of Edward. This branch settled in Manitoba.
I have also made contact with an ancestor of William
(brother of Ethel) who lives in Saskatchewan (Sandra Filson)
and we have traced most of the descendents for this branch.
She had been in contact with Rhoda Bettes (or someone called
Bettes who lives in the Goderich area; Rhoda was the wife of William).

In any case, I can mail you a copy of the family tree that I have drawn up for Thomas Jordan. I would love to fill in whatever information you have on the Ethel Jordan/Curry side of the family.

Patrick and his brothers (Dennis, John, William) arrived in Goderich from Tipperary around 1830. I am not sure but I am related to a David McConnel(l) from that area. He was quite a character. His Niece- Edith Maude was married to my Grandfather Henri Tremblay. They had a son Vinton -died and Everett, Hilliard, William Harland, and a daughter Elaine. They lived in the Goderich/Colbourne area.

I am a librarian in a small town (Brighton) and accidentally came across your message while I was searching for something else.
I have a picture of a Saint Bernard hanging in my dining-room. This picture was given to me in May, 1970 by my grandmother Violet Tasker. It was painted by my great, great, Aunt Rebecca Sowler and the picture is approximately 105 years old. My great grandmother was a Sowler. They lived in Huron County and my grandmother spent her married life in Blyth, Ontario.

Hers is the only birth registration I found on Ancestry.ca.
I cannot find any marriage registrations for any of the children but if Florence was b 1890 and Annie in 1892 then I would say Annie belonged to Mary Jane as well.

They are in Marquette Manitoba on 1911 census. Annie is listed as Ida.

From Manitoba Vital Stats
Marriage: William George Robert Kerswell, married Alma Denham, 02/06/1915 at Gilbert Plains.

Elizabeth May Florence Kerswell married Arthur Edwin Denis McGinnis, 29/11/1911 at RM Shell River.

Death: Mary Jane Kerswell, 89 yrs, died 18/01/1939 at RM Shell River.

I think this is their marriage registration in Tunberry but Nicholas'last name is Russell. I guess Russell & Kerswell sound somewhat alike.

Think her father's name must have been John. The registrar got a few names confused by the looks of things.

If you think this is them [I do],then William belongs to Mary Jane as he was born 1887.

On Paul Powell's marriage to Mary Jane King 17 June 1886 his parents are listed as Thomas Powell & Angelina Farthing. Brother Francis was a witness. Tunberry Huron County.
Paul died Exeter Ontario 8 Feb 1923.

There is a Tom Kemp Powell b 1847 Somerset England, married 13 Mar 1873, to Mary Ann Johnson. Parents are given as Thomas and Angelina.

Don't know if you have this:
Thomas Powell, s/o John Powell & Sarah Sudball married Angelina Farthing, 21 Sep 1844 at Porlock Somerset England.

Children listed for them on IGI are Tom Kemp,b 20 Dec 1846 and James, b 25 July 1853,Mary 04 May 1845 all at Portlock. Mary's is a christening date.

A Mary Powell's birth was registered June quarter 1845 at Williton Somerset. James' was registered same place. Why isn't she on 1851 census?

I don't see another thing for Mary.

All the other Powells died in Huron County but no mention of a Mary or Louis.
After the 1871 census he/she is not mentioned on any marriage registration of siblings or death of parents. Paul Powell was informant on both Thomas and Angelina's death registrations.

That is all I can/cannot find.

I am looking for any information about the families and descendants of James Query, born 1818 in Quebec and his wife Elizabeth Dowd, born 1825 in Ireland. They were married in Quebec and settled in Turnberry, Ontario. James and Elizabeth had 8 children, two born in Turnberry, Ontario, Elizabeth, born 1862 who married Charles Henry Brown and John, born 1867 who married Lydia Hollingsworth. The first two daughters of James Query and Elizabeth Dowd, Mary and Margaret were the only two who married and settled in Turnberry, Ontario. Mary Query born 1845 in Ontario married Robert John Johnston and they had 11 children and Margaret Query born 1847 in Ontario married Thomas Stokes and they had 10 children.

I am seeking to create a dedicated website for the towns/villages of Bodmin (C5L9N) and Sunshine (C5L10), Morris Township, Huron County, Ontario. Also for the Sunshine Methodist Church (abt. 1856-1927), its cemetery; and the Bethel Methodist Church (abt. 1864-1883), and its cemetery (C5L6). Collecting and compiling everything and anything, documentation, knowledge, stories, photos, vital stats, who worked in or owned shops, stores, busnesses, etc., know of anyone who was born, baptised, married, died, or buried there? Please, no matter how trivial, or irrelevant you think it may be, I welcome every bit of information I can acquire. At present there is just too little info to support a website that could serve as a comprehensive research tool in the future, to further knowledge of these places, and serve to honour and preserve the memories. on a tombstone in kingsbridge roman catholic cementery is inscribed the following ; sacred to the memory of john sullivan 1785-1881 and his wife mary shea 1794-1890 natives of county kerry , ireland john sullivan is recorded in the 1842 agriculture census along with three more in his household we presume he came in 1839 as one of the first settlers . we have recorded 7 children , 1- michael 1826 -in ireland m mary foley . 2- john 1828-1887m johanna desmond 1827-1910

Checking my records and following the census the only other person Louis could be is Tom kemp Powell born Dec 21, 1846 in Porlock. The age would be correct. It must have been a miscommunication some how. Paul was born in Exeter Ont, Francis Turnberry, Ontario and Betty, Exeter Ontario. Sudball should read Tudball.

I was also trying to track down a John James Powell B June 28, 1874 to Robert Powell and Mary Jane Musgrove. His father Robert dies John J Powell is found in 1891 Census living with his mother Mary Jane Kerswell /Nicholas/Nealson kerswell. Does this JOhn J Powell marry Mary E Gibbon and move to Perth? There also is a John J Powell who marries a Ella Beatrice Ireland June 19, 1897 Morton Manitoba.
