Well maybe it's only a mystery to me!

Sioux Lookout Genealogy reports that they have transcribed 3 cemeteries and the other info can be found within municipal offices. The Thunder Bay branch reports that they have access to Kenora cemeteries but the website does not state which ones.
Can anyone help?
I'm looking to compile a list of cemeteries for the District to be included in the Canada GenWeb Cemetery Project and provide links to where the transcripts can be found or purchased. If you are able to provide lookups for a Kenora Cemetery send me an email!
Thank you.

Is it possible to obtain a map of this site and how do I go about getting it.
Thank you Don Corbett

Names that might show up are: Ella May Bishop (mother) Ann Parker(Mitchell), Ruth Thomas (Mitchell)

Anna Mudge nee Olson

Hi! I'm looking for information on an Anna Olson or Anna Olsson, who immigrated to Canada from Sweden in the early 1900s. Anna worked on the cruise ships, at least according to family legend! She was the sister of my great grandfather Carl Johan Olson (Carl sometimes spelled Karl, and apparently he went by John once he moved to Canada), he was born 9 July 1871 at Långerud, Värmland, Sweden. Carl immigrated to Canada in 1907 and homesteaded near Wainwright Alberta. We have a telegram Anna sent to the Olson family in Wainwright when Carl died, and it gives her address (where the telegraph was sent from anyway) as La Vallee (LaVallee) Ontario. The telegram was sent 21 May 1942. From what we understand, Anna and Carl's parents were Olaf Henrikson and his wife Maria (last name unknown).

Anyway, if this rings any bells or you know anyone by the last name Mudge who comes from/came from near La Vallee, Kenora, Devlin, Fort Frances, or other communities near La Vallee, please get in touch or have them get in touch - there are loads of rellies out in BC and Alberta who are keen to share what we have on the family, including a photo of Anna, and some family letters from Sweden. Best Regards, Joyce (seismo_schwa at hotmail dot com)

This is a longshot but I know this family resided in
Kenora for a few years as there was a birth in this year.
Believe they resided here for a least a few years.

Family:
Duncan Christopher McRae & Wife Margaret nee McDonald
children:
Vincent
John
Allan
Helen
Donald
Duncan would be about 35 years old at this time. b abt 1885
Vincent, Allan and John would be attending school during these years (in town) Kenora.
Would they have had school yearbooks back then??

Resided in Kenora
Can anyone advise a site for land records office that I could search out or if they rented is there some way to
search.
Any online birth records specifically for area.??

Employment:
I believe he worked for a man who had some sort of masonary
operation or quarry south of Kenora, for the life of me I cannot remember the name of the Lake that was near it on the
highway leading north to Kenora. Ducan C. McRae was his
accountant or bookkeeper I believe.

(65 is a long time ago for me to remember seeing this and wasn't interested in genealogy at time).

The owner or operator was likely called McLennan or Mr. McLennan or McLean something like that and he was from the Glengarry, Ontario area and quite prosperous in his business operation there.

I think they resided there for a few years and with the
little I have I know on son
Allan eventually became a pilot in the forces.

There was talk that he was found near the train station
in Kenora with amnesia, don't know what happened to him
but he ended up in a Veteran's hospital following this
event.
Allan born 1918
This means he would have had to be old enough to have spent some time in the forces so I'm guessing the event sometime
after 1939 when he would be 20 years old?

They were residing in Glengarry Ont (East Ont)in late 30's
when Duncan Christopher died a young man about early 50age.
A lot of bits and pieces but maybe someone will know of
the family or this event.

I suspect that there may have been other's from this area working up here at the time.

My grandfather Malcolm McRitchie was rodericks eldest brother, so I can give you some family background. Our ancestors emmigrated to Canada in 1828 from the Isle of Lewis in Scotland, 5 of the 7 sons of Angus McRitchie and Anne Gillis left the overcrowded family farm , eventually ending up in and around Englishtown N.S. We are directly connected to John McRitchie born in 1794 in Lewis and died inEnglishtown in 1873, and Annie MacRitchie (no relation) born in 1798 and died in 1889. John and Anne had 10 children , one of whom was our ancestor Donald McRitchie born in Englishtown in 1834 and died in Kenora in 1917, who married Annie McLeod and they produced 12 children. Annie was born in 1838 and died within a few days of Donald in 1917.Being my ancestor is Malcolm most of the detailed info I have is related to this branch of family.I do have the family bible which records the weddings and deaths of the family members, but as I recall someone required some proof of age
or something , so the page showing births was torn out of the bible and sent east to Manitoba I believe. would be happy to send you what I have on family if it would be of any assistance to you

Hello, our family has been compiling our ancestry info for quite some time, since my father Robert Noel began back in the 60's I think, maybe earlier.

So far, my two brothers Scott and Greg have been updating the info (being passed on by Thomas), and now I enter the realm.

If anyone could share a story or two about any DeGagne ancestry (My father was born in Norman on August 9, 1925) we would really appreciate it. In turn, we will assist you with any stories or dates/people with your family. Thanks!

SMITH family in Kenora, circa 1850-1950

I'm researching the parents of Elizabeth SMITH (1867-1946). Elizabeth married Joseph GERVIN in Buckingham, Quebec, and had ten children - Maude, James Douglas, Walter, Dorothy, Annie, Amy, Marion, Roland, Marjory, and Mildred GERVIN.

Around 1908, when daughter Maude was 17, she went to live with her grandmother in Kenora. This was probably her maternal grandmother, i.e. mother of Elizabeth SMITH. Maude remained in Kenora, where she met her husband Robert (Roby) STRANG. They had no children.

The grandmother had at least four children - Elizabeth SMITH, Royal SMITH, Rubin (Ruben?) SMITH, and Jerry (Gerry?) SMITH - because when Elizabeth died in 1946, they were listed as her surviving brothers, all living in Kenora. I believe Royal had a son named George SMITH, also from Kenora.

It is possible that at least one of these SMITH grandparents were of Native-Canadian descent .. but this is pretty "iffy". Just going by facial features of their daughter & grandchildren.

Does anyone know of a SMITH family in Kenora during this period?
He left a pregnant wife and two young children. His body was not able to be brought home (Eagle River) because of the nature of his disease (contagious). Any ideas to where these people were buried, and if they buried them with grave markers?

Blanch death certificate states tha she was born Feb 12 1884. She died January 29 1934. She was approx. 50 years of age but it states that she had lived in B.C. for 14 years. So that means she came out here in 1920 and would have bee about 36 years of age. He marriage to John is what I can not find in B.C. I was hoping that some descendents of The Mcleods could help me. I need a phone number or an E Mail ffor the Collins reunion coming up in Sask in Aug 08 to the 12, 2005.

On 17 Sep 1889 she married William Alexander MacKenzie (former President of the Kenora Board of Trade) in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. Lizzie Speers Green and William Alexander MacKenzie are believed to have lived all their years in Kenora, Ontario. Unfortunately I don't have much additional information. If anyone has any information on Lizzie Speers Green or recommendations on where to go to look, it would be greatly appreciated.

Good morning,
Its about that time of year when I post questions to this list concerning my families in Kenora. I know that on the 1901 census all of these people were in Kenora. My grandmother was Marie Malvina Lemieux, daughter of Joseph Lemieux and Alvina LeBlanc and my grandfather was Jules Gravereau, son of Charles Gravereau and Catherine LaPierre. My great grandmother and her youngest son are also on this census, they were Julie Bergeron LeBlanc and her youngest son, Joseph LeBlanc. I have been in touch with several of Joseph's daughters and even made the trip from Chicago to Kenora to meet them a couple of summers ago.
If anyone connects with any of these relatives of mine please let me know.

Anna Steinke married to Peter Mueller

I'm looking for information on my Gr.Grandparents.
Anna Steinke married Peter Mueller(changed to Miller in US)
They had 2 sons Michael and the younger one Paul (My grandfather) Peter Mueller either died young or divorced and then Anna remarried. Paul Mueller(Miller) was born on June 29, 1875 in Wittenburg, Germany. He came to the US around 1891. He lived in Hicksville, Long Island N.Y. until 1922 when he moved to Canterbury, Ct. He married Freiderike(Frieda, as we knew her) Ulmer in Hicksville on June 11, 1904.
I do not know much about Anna Steinke or Peter Mueller other than they moved from German to Poland when they were offering land for the German people to farm. I'm assuming Peter Mueller died in Poland and then Anna re-married a Polish man that did not get along with Paul. There is no mention of Michael(a brother?) at all in our history. When Paul turned 16 his mother put him on a ship for the US. The only other mention of Michael is that when Paul arrived in US Michael found him a job on a farm somewhere around Hicksville area of NY. Paul later got into the Bakery business before moving to Ct. with his family.
If anyone has any information about Anna Stienke or Peter or Michael Mueller (Miller) that may fit I would love to hear from you. I'm trying to find the info for a scrapbook I'm working on and have not been able to go beyond my Grandparents on my father's father side. Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Family lore states he played with Kenora Thistles - Is there any way I can verify this, or that somebody can verify this?

2. Gustav was an Engineer for the CPR. There was a train accident in 1914 (?) and he died as a result of a brain tumour caused by an injury to the head in this accident. I have a picture of him in front of Engine #721. So long way around, how can I find his Death Certificate? I tried Manitoba, cause that is where the family lived; but, perhaps he died in Rat Portage (or was it Kenora then?)

I am thinking that it may of possibly been somewhere around the Angle Inlet area, but on the Canadian side.

The Larkins were American. I think Thomas was born in Maine. Alcea, his wife, was originally a Myers, born in Wisconsin. She was adopted by the Harrisons who lived in Michigan.

I have a picture of them in front of a small cabin. This was probably about 1898 (give or take). The background looks like rocky, woodland that one would find beside a lake. At one point the children had a pet seal (this is what Grandma said, but I'm thinking it was more likely an otter) that apparently was separated from its mother. Perhaps Thomas Larkin was there first and then at some point met and married Alcea.
I am at complete loggerheads with this. I am beginning to think the man simply appeared out of thin air and disappeared in the same way! lol
If anyone has any suggestions I would be delighted.
Looking for information on Donald McLeod who married Lexie Sutherland (1896) and had Agnes, jean, Jessie, Donalda, Catherine. Donald's father was Farquhar McLeod. Farquhar's brothers and their families also lived in the area: Malcolm McLeod's children were Catherine and Malcolm, but I don't know what his wife's names was. Donald McLeod married Sarah Ann Vickers and had John and Katie and one other child. John McLeod married Isabella and had Donald, Maud and Jessie. Others brothers were Roderick and Angus and sister Catherine who married a Cole. I'm not sure if these McLeods lived in the area.

Hello-

Hoping that someone might be able to help me find and confirm a death date for a William Henry Gilbert, husband of Magil Jerrue, who died in Feb 1887 or March of 1888 in Rats Portage. Wanting to find a source that would sort out three conflicting dates (21 Feb 1887, 1 Mar 1888, or 7 Mar 1888). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Can share what information I have on this family as well.

Looking for descendants of Mary and Johan Hill

Dear friends!
I'm still looking for the anchestors of my huspand. Maria Justiina Autiomaki immigrated in Canada, the ship left London 20. November 1902. She had a girl in Canada 24. February 1903, Aili Irene. Maria maried with Johan Alfred Johansson Peltokangas 31.5.1904 in Canada, maybe in Port Arthur (the foto has been taken then in Port Arthur). JOhan has immigrated in USA1899. When he came into Canada, I don't know.

Maria and Johan moved into Sioux Lookout and Maria's sisters and mother in Finland, Jalasjarvi, got some letters from her. She used name Mary Hill in Sioux Lookout. They had a boording house and Mary told some nice stories about their life in Sioux Lookout.

Mary and Johan had three more children: Tyyko (Tyko) Adiel born ab. 1907-08, Elma Alice, and Pauli Albert, born ab.1911.

The address of Mary on 1914 was Mary Hill, Sioux Lookout, Lake Superior, Junct. C.F.P. Ontario.
Later (1916?) it was: Graham Box 79, C.F.P. Ontario, Canada.

There could be possible, that the family used the name Maki, but still I believe that they used last name Hill, because Johans brothers were Hill in USA at the same time.

I would be very happy if someone could help me again!
Ulla
