I would like to correct a misunderstanding that exists regarding the William Knight family of Dover, Kent, ON. William Knight b. England ca 1821 d. 18 Mar. 1890 did not marry Mary Ann Budget. He was married probably twice, the first marriage to an unknown individual in England and the second was on 26 Aug 1852 in Chatham, Argenteuil, Quebec to Nancy Ann (alias Agnes) McLean b. 28 Apr 1825 Cote du Midi, Argenteuil, Quebec d. 09 Sep 1901 in Whitebread, Kent, ON. I traced both the William Knight family of Kent and the William Knight family who married Mary Ann Budget. They are very distinct families. William Knight and Nancy McLean moved from Quebec ca 1856 when Nancy renounced her claim to 1/7th of her father's land. They moved to Middlesex Co. and then by 1881 to Dover Tp. Kent, ON. The McLean-Slaven families moved around together and are found in the records together. My own ancestress Jannett McLean sister of Nancy is named in the same land document with Nancy. Jannett and John Anderson witnessed Nancy and William's marriage. Nancy and William then witnessed theirs. John Anderson and another of Nancy's siblings (half - Eliza Slaven who married Henry Taylor and moved also to Wallaceburg)witnessed the baptism of James Knight in Quebec. I know the William Knight families can be confusing, but they are not the same.
