My great grandmother, Mercie Pangman Campbell, shares this same name change. She was born in Ontario, passed in Saginaw, and was buried in Bad Axe.

I had read somewhere (the source is long forgotten) that upon the end of the war, the King awarded certain lands in Nova Scotia to his loyalists...our early ancestors. Three of the sons left the area, moved through the Ohio River Valley and wound up in Ontario (Brock Township...Vallentyne, to be more precise). I share the same suspicions about the name change, as the family was loyalist.

If you wish to share information, feel free to reach out.
