Looking for information about my g-grandparents Adeline Saunders b.1862 daughter of Robert Saunders and Margery Griffith and James Connell b. abt 1844 in Ireland. Adeline was married to John Willoughby in 1882 then appeared in the 1891 census for Carlton Place with James Connell and son Robert b.1889.

I have not found a marriage for Adeline and James if there is one. I subscribe to Ancestry and have not found it there.

I don't know what happened to John Willoughby son of John and Dora Willoughby. I would also like to find James Connell's mothers name and where in Ireland he came from. His death cert. just lists his father John and born in Ireland.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maureen

I have been told that there is an obituary in The Perth Courier Mar 4 1887 regarding his death at Middleville. On Paper of Record website I am unable to read the digitized version online of this newspaper. I think it may be on page 2 under the headline "Deaths" but that is all I can read. Does anyone have a copy of this obituary that they can transcribe it for me?

I am trying to find any information on a family named Geehan.

My gr gr grandmother was Priscilla Geehan who according to two of my sources was born in Lanark twp in 1830. She married Robt. Lough (1829-1905). He was born in Cumberland, Russell twp.

Robt was a builder and they moved around the Ottawa area, but eventually settled in Ottawa, where both of them died. Priscilla in 1893. Both are buried in Dale Cemetery in Cumberland, where Robt's family are buried.

I have a copy of a picture of Priscilla sitting on her mother knee as a wee child of maybe 3 yrs or so. My grandmother had written that Priscilla's mother was an Elward. This is a name which appears several times in following generation of the Lough family.

Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks, Brenda

John Angus b. 1781 d. Dec 11 1859 and Margaret Smith b. 1794 d. Aug 15 1871 are the parents of John b. 1817, Jane Angus Thomas b. 1819, James b. 1822, Robert b. 1823, William b. 1825, Margaret b. 1827, Janet Angus Watt b. 1828, Annie Angus Watt b. 1830, Agnes Angus Smith b. 1831, Mary b. 1833 and George b. 1837.
I am researching these ancestors and am trying to find sources to put them together, especially James b. 1822. He left home at an early age and went to McNab Twp. in Renfrew County. John and Margaret lived on Lot 24/25W Con. 10 in Lanark Twp. The 1851 census is missing Ramsay Twp. which holds concessions 9, 10, 11. I have not found an earlier census for them. Any help would be a big help.

need help researching Glossop

Hi,

I live in the US and am finding it rather difficult to research the line in my genealogy that comes from Perth, Lanark South, Canada.

Thanks to ancestry.com, I was able to learn some information, but not much.

My Great Grandfather, Daniel Glossop came to the states from Canada around 1900. He married, had two children and is listed on the 1910 census for New Jersey. By 1920, his wife is listed as a widow. I found his Canadian Death Record for 1916. He was the son of Daniel Glossop and Elizabeth McLaren and is buried in Elmwood cemetery. Some of his possible siblings are: James, Margaret, John, Ethel, Jennett.

Any information anyone has or would be willing to look into would be greatly appreciated!

My email is subelex@countryilink.net

Starr

Levi Compo / Elizabeth Fitzpatrick, Athens, Ontario, late 1800's

Looking for info on Levi Compo married to Elizabeth Fitzpatrick who lived in Athens, Ontario in the late1800's. I have 2 children Charlotte Angeline Compo born 28 Feb 1888 Athens and Delancy David born 12 Nov 1884 also in Athens, Ontario. At some time after that they moved to Herkimer, New York. It is said that Levi's father was Isaac but after almost 2 years nothing to be be found. The surname has been changed so many times from Campau/Campeau/Compeau/Compo that it has made it a great challenge. I have been told that Levi was from Westport, Ontario and that has not been proven either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I am doing research on the Corkery side of my family. My gggrandparents were Dennis Corkery who was born in Lanark County in 1825. I thought that his parents were Michael Corkery and Mary Donahue. They came over with the Peter Robinson settlers with their 6 of their children, and my gggrandfather was the youngest and born in Canada. He married Margaret McGivern, in 1862 @ St. Philips Church in Richmond. They had 5 children, my great grandfather being D. Patrick Corkery. They were farmers. I am interested in finding out what happened to the siblings of the original 6 children of Michael and Mary Corkery. Any information would be appreciated.
Craig and Robinson Families of Drummond/Bathurst

My ancestor Thomas Craig came to Canada from Ireland in around 1832 with his wife (Sidney) and 3 kids William Henry, Margaret and Sidney. William Henry married Martha Robinson (dau of William Robinson and Jane Wallace Robinson) and Margaret Craig married Martha's brother James. The Robinsons had quite a few children and from what I can see they were all born here. I think they came over in the early 1820's.

I am trying to take Thomas Craig and his wife Sidney (whom I think had a maiden name of Bruce) and William and Jane Wallace Robinson back to Ireland but have had no luck.

The only clue that I have is that Sidney Craig (who became married to a John Scott) said she was from Armagh in her obit. I have searched the Armagh records with no success.

If anyone has any of these folks in their tree and has information on them, I would very much appreciate a reply.

Thank you,
Lisa

GEARY/FERGUSON Ireland to Ontario

Hi,
I am trying to find information on Elizabeth GEARY who was born about 1831 in Ireland. She immigrated to Canada about 1842 according to the 1911 Canada census.

It seems she married Mathew FERGUSON before 1853 in either Ontario, Canada or New York state. Their first child Sarah Ann Ferguson was born about 1853 in New York state (have not been able to find out exactly where in NY). The family moved back to Lanark County, Ontario, had 5 more children: Robert (Eliza MOSS), Mathew (Agnes CAMERON & Rebecca THOMPSON), George (Fanny ILAN), Elizabeth & William Wesley (Mary CAMERON). Mathew died Lanark County, 1883 but I am not sure about Elizabeth. Daughter Sarah Ann married John CASSELL & eventuallly moved back to Watertown, Jefferson County, NY with their children.

There are two possible fathers for Elizabeth GEARY living in Lanark County who had close connections with the Ferguson family.
William GEARY (1809 Ireland) married Fanny/Ann & had a son named George GEARY born in Ireland. I haven't found any other children for them.
Richard GEARY (1812 Ireland) first married Mary BRADY (I think) & had William, Margaret & George, all born in Ireland. He 2nd married Ruth FOSTER (before 1851) in Lanark County & had Richard, Robert, James, Anne Jane, Martha & Archibald.

If anyone is researching this Geary/Ferguson family or has any additional information on them, I would love to exchange information.

Thank you in advance,
Cindy

Hello,

I've recently come into possession of an embroidered "sampler" which has been in the family for a long time. It says on it Bridget Kerr, Perth, 1845.

Right now I don't know who Bridget was or how she connects into our tree. I did come across a possible match in the IGI for a Bridget KERR who married a Christopher FLANIGAN around 1849 in Perth. Age wise that could certainly be her since I've been told that it was young girls around the age of 10 who normally made these.

Any information on Bridger or Christopher would be greatly appreciated.

Tim Ryeland UE
Waterloo, ON

WOODWARD / RINGROSE / ARTER

I am looking for my gr grandfather and his sisters. They arrived in Lanark (Almonte) in 1869 from Middlesex England after the death of their father.

They show up on the 1871Ontario Census living with JOHN and ELLICE SOPHIA ARTER and their infant son Albert.

The names are

ELLICE WOODWARD b@1857
JOSEPH THOMAS WOODWARD b@ 1859
TABITHA SOPHIA WOODWARD b 1862
EMILY E WOODWARD b@ 1865
ESTHER A WOOWARD b@1867

JOSEPH WOODWARD married MARY ELIZABETH ARMSTRONG dau of WM ARMSTRONG in Ramsay in 1882. They had one son MANSON HENRY WOODWARD and may have had a dau IDA WOODWARD.

JOSEPH worked at The Rosamond Woolen Mill as a foreman until shortly before his death in 1912.

TABITHA SOPHIA WOODWARD married JOHN RINGROSE and they were living in Almonte Village at the time of the 1901 Census. Their children at that time were LILY S (16), RUTH (10) and JOHN S (7). JOHN's mother SARAH RINGROSE (75) was living with them also

ELLICE may have married someone named RYCROFT or RYECROFT.

I really don't know what happened to Ellice, Emily or Esther and am anxious to find out.

I was fortunate to find the marriage notice for Jospeh and Mary Elizabeth in an extract of marriages from the Almonte Gazette that I found in my library here in BC.

I suspect that ELLICE ARTER married JOHN ARTER after the death of her husband and was the natural mother of the 5 children.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Shirley - in British Columbia

Funeral services will be conducted in Parkers Prairie Friday at 1:30 p.m. from the Gengnagel funeral parlors and burial will be made in the Parkers Prairie cemetery. Rev. Lambert Engwall will officiate.

Edmund McFarlane was born in Lanark county, Ontario, Canada, on August 6, 1862, and was at the time of his death 73 years old. He received his education in the schools of the Dominion and emigrated to the United States in 1881, joining his three brothers who had preceded him to Douglas county, Minnesota. In 1882 he removed to Otter Tail county, Minnesota, locating in Parkers Prairie, where he at once engaged in the business of harness making, which business he conducted until about 1921. The business was at first operated in partnership with his brother, W. K., and their place was opened to the public on January 6, 1882. The partnership continued for one year, at which time Edmund McFarlane purchased his brother’s interest. Mr. McFarlane continued his business until around 1921 when he sold out to Otto Wallner and then moved to Blackfoot, Idaho, where he has since resided.

In 1886 Edmund McFarlane was united in marriage to Mary E. Taylor and they were the parents of six children. Mrs. McFarlane’s death occurred in 1903.

Transcribed from microfilm copy of newspaper at Minnesota History Center, St. Paul, MN.
My great great grandfather was William McLACHLAN, b 1817 or 1819 in Lochwinnoch, Scotland, son of John McLAHCLAN and Ann HOUSTON. William moved from Lanark co. to Caledon, Peel co. apparently, but I don't know when, or for how long he had been in Lanark co.
He married Lucinda SCOTT (b. 1834 in Caledon, Peel co.) and was a farmer until his death in 1866. I believe it may have been from a farming accident. Lucinda and William had seven children in all.

If anyone has any record of the McLACHLAN family or HOUSTON family in Lanark co. I would be interested to have any information.

thank you,
Ardeth Neale

David was son of Peter P Loucks and Elizabeth Empey of Wolford Twp.

From census, I know Caroline was born circa 1815-1820 in Ontario and died between the 1871 census and Jun 1872. She and David resided Wolford Twp for 1851 and moved to Osnabruck Twp by 1861 census.

Can't find their marriage record or anything on Caroline's ancestry. Perhaps she is related to the Simon Ranson in 1851 census for Lanark Co. Can anyone help?

Debbi

Hi
I bought a very old family bible at a moving company sale a few years back. It has quite a bit of family history recorded in it so I would like to see if any descendants can be found who would want this. The family names in this bible are Closs, Legary, Wallace and Duncan. One newspaper clipping references a death in Perth. Otherwise McDonald's Corners in Lanark County is mentioned. Last recorded date is 1963. Most of the recordings were by Mrs Joseph Legary late 1800s then it was passed onto to Gene Wallace.
I think there may be a connection, but there is a different wife (Helen Rollo), and that does not seem to match. The John Robertson Buried in Lanark who died in 1852, was married to a Janet.
Do you know what property your John (or James) first settled? Do you have any idea of the original land grant?
Thanks again
J.R.

LEE's in Lanark

Hello, I have been searching for years on an individual without much luck...if anyone can help. James Lee, born July 14th 1855 in Lanark (was either Perth or Bathurst). Verified sibling information: brothers John P and William. sister: pretty sure he had a sister Margaret based on some family history I have found. Would have had other siblings but unsure of their names. William was the only sibling alive in 1914 that was still in Canada.
Looking for any information on James and his immediate family...1861 and 1871 census info would be very helpful. I know he left to the USA around 1875 with a few siblings.

I am researching the Gould family who are in my family tree. I cannot find a birth registration for Andrew Wesley Gould born in 1882 and died August 27,1910 in Toronto. He was perhaps born in Perth or Smith Falls Ontario. When he was married his parents were listed as Matthew Gould and Sarah Campbell but I don!t know if this is correct or not.
Any information someone could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

Myrle

Does anyone have any information on the JAMES DRUMMOND and Eleanor/Ellinor/Ellen Stevely Miller descendants or ancestors? They resided in Toledo, Kitley, Leeds Co., but are buried in Lanark Co. I believe that JAMES DRUMMOND is the brother of JANE DRUMMOND who Married William MAHON in 1823. The original land was in what is now Lanark Co. and it may border this county. Are James and Jane the children of Matthew Drummond and Martha Russell of Ireland?
Thanks. Is the MAHON SCHOOL still standing in or around Toledo, the land for which was donated by Wm and Jane(Drummond) Mahon? It was standing in 1945.
Mary Mahon
