Patrick Ryan and Julia Daily/Daly married presumably in Ireland. Had following children: William, Denis, Anne, Catharine and Julia. All are mentioned in Last Will and Testament of Patrick dated January 1875.
Sons William and Denis received N 1/2 Lot 15 Concession 7 Westminster.

Can't find them in any census or cemetery. Is anyone working on these families? Somehow the Cornelius and Denis Regan families of Glanworth are also interwoven with this family, but can't make the link.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Patricia O'Brien

Descendants of John and Elizabeth (Montgomery) Kirkpatrick

Hi to all.. I have not been on this (or any) list in some time now.. think I burned myself out when I tackled this journey when the farm became a Centennial Farm. We had planned a surprise party for my father-in-law, and I thought it would be nice to have some of the history of the family for him that day. I worked solid for about 5 mo every chance I got, and actually did find a lot, but there was of course some missing information. I decided if I was ever going to solve the questions l still have about this family. I am including some of the facts I did find. If anyone is connected to this family, or has any more info or ideas on how to find some of the missing things I would appreciate greatly hearing from you...I do have much more information on the family if you think you are connected.
Here goes... of course, as it goes some facts may be a little off..
**********************************

John KIRKPATRICK married Elizabeth MONTGOMERY on Jan 13, 1813 in Aghavea, Fermanagh, Ireland.
They immigrated to Ontario, Canada abt 1847 with 2 sons William & Robert. I find the boys in Middlesex Co, where they settled, in the 1871 Census, but have not found the parents AT all. It is said they went to Middlesex via Oxford Co.(West Williams Township History Book)

William KIRKPATRICK(our direct line)was born 3/12/1823 in Ireland. He married Jane WESTNOTT also Born Ireland(AFTER he came to Canada)...I did find her with her mother and brother in Oxford Co in the 1851 census in Norwich Twp., so I figure She and William were then married sometime between 1851 and 1855, when their first child was born. One of their children Robert C KIRKPATRICK states on his marriage registration that he was born in Blenheim.. he was born in 1860.. The family was Ch of England.

William and Jane have  7 children, all born by the time of the 1871 Census;

John Westnott KIRKPATRICK b.1855,
Elizabeth " b. 1857
William Montgomery " b. 1859
Robert Charles " b. 1860
Ann Jane " b. 1864
Richard " b. 1866
James Lethbtidge " b. 1869
I know these children were all born in Ontario, but I am not exactly sure
*Where* in Ontario.. Some I think in Middlesex Co.. Robert says Blenheim on
his marriage Registration.
The West Williams history book Says " John Kirkpatrick and his wife Elizabeth "immigrated to Middlesex County in the 1840's, via Oxford Co.. "
The Norwich and District Archives in Oxford Co did a search, and did not find any of them.

**The earliest census I have seen is 1871, where I found William and his family in West Nissouri(note on Census also says East Middlesex), and I would like to know where they were for the 1851 and 1861 Census if they immigrated in 1847(found on the 1901 census).
I have not seen the 1851 or 1861 census.
*I did find William on the 1891 and 1901 census in the same place..
*The 1901 Census says William immigrated in 1847. His wife Jane Westnott, immigrated in 1829, and she is still with her mother and a brother in the 1851 Census of Oxford CO.
*Williams death notice says "Coming to London in the early forties he engaged in business for some time afterwards settleing on a farm in West Nissouri until his removal to Sylvan."

* * I am wondering if John and Elizageth (the parents) even came over.. If so, I am now wondering if the whole family went to London first, then William moved on... I thought he farmed in West Williams.. Was it once W Nissouri??

**Williams brother Robert stayed in London, and his son became asst. City Engineer there... Robert was a Boot and Shoemaker.
Although William is our direct Ancestor, I am of course also interested in anything on his brother Robert and/or any other member of this family.

*From the 1901 Census states they were Ch of England.

* I would also be interested in the marriage registration of William and Jane as I have not been able to find it anywhere..

Thank you in advance for any info you can give..
Bonnie Kirkpatrick
in the Thumb of Michigan

It's the first time I have attempted to do a house genealogy and it is proving to be quite fascinating.

Thanks for reading!

UPTHEGROVE surname in Ontario in late 1700s

Nancy Ann UPTHEGROVE born in Ontario circa 1805 married (1837) Dennis KELLEY (or O'Kelley) also born in Ontario circa 1805. According to RootsWeb's WorldConnect the couple had five children, at least one of whom, their daughter Amanda, is known to have been born in Ontario (in Wainfleet Township, Welland County in 1845). Nancy and Dennis at some point moved their family to Wisconsin where Dennis died in 1850 and Nancy remarried.

Looking especially for information on the parents of Nancy and Dennis. I have found a John UPTHEGROVE and Ann OBRAM(?) UPTHEGROVE living in the Niagara area in the late 1700s. They are said to have come over the border from the USA during or immediately after the Revolution. Ann is thought to have some blood relationship to Seneca Chief Cornplanter. From various online sources I found the names of three sons born in Niagara: Abram (born 1776) Peter (born 1779), and Benjamin (born 1785).

Trying to see if there is any tie-in for Nancy to this family...a daughter??? or granddaughter???

Any information would be most appreciated.
I am stumped for information about a Rev. W. Sutton who is buried in Scottsville Cemetery, son of William and Elizabeth. The dates are broken off the stone.
William and Elizabeth (Patterson) of Westminster Twp. had a son William born in 1844. As of 1889, he was deceased, according to the article on Eli Davis (brother-in-law)in "History of the County of Middlesex" published in 1889.
I can find no death record on-line that would correspond to him. I found a William Sutton who married Fanny Cotton in 1877 and had a son John born the same year in Westminster, but there are no other details to confirm this is the same man. He is a labourer, not a "Reverend".
There was also a William Sutton about the same age who died in Essex County in 1875. He was employed as a clerk.
Any suggestions as to where I could look next to sort out these William Suttons?

Diane Bourgault

I am looking for information or living relatives of the Williamson family that lived in the Melbourne/Middlemiss area from 1874 to about 1960.
Charles Williamson (1852-1916) married Frances Webb (1858-1940). They had 6 sons.
Charles (1875-1903) married Elizabeth Duncanson. I have found no children for this couple.
John married ? Moore. I have not been able to confirm his wife's first name. John moved to St Thomas and had one daughter, Pearl Frances, (1917-1943). I have not found any other children.
James Henry (1878-1962) married Rosamelia Hearns. They had two children, James Franklin and Mary Frances, who were born in Melbourne and 5 children born in Detroit, MI.
David (1881-1958) married Rosa Bell Cass. Their one son, David, died as an infant. After Rosa Bell died, David married Elizabeth Darling. David lived at 41 Brock Street in Melbourne. I have found no children for David and Elizabeth.
Their fifth son was Archey. I have found no information about him exept his birth certificate. He may have died as a child.
Alexander (1886-1972), also known as "Sandy", married his cousin, Cassie May Corneill. She probably died about 1910. He married Sarah Mae Peerce and moved to St Thomas. They had one son and three daughters, J. Alexander (I have not found the first name of his wife), Dorothy, married William J Jewell, Eleanor, married Lloyd G Barnes, and one daughter whose name I have not yet found.
Charles and his sons were carpenters and most worked for the railroad at some time.
Some of the family is buried at Longwoods Cemetery, outside of Melbourne and some are in St Thomas.
DAKIN, Alice Myrtle ca 1871, London?

A very nice, older gentleman, presently living in Florida, told me a story about his mother and I have agreed to look into it for him.
Alice Myrtle DAKIN, born about December 1870 in Canada, left her home in London, Ontario to reside in Mackinac Island, Michigan.
This fellow says she was "quite the lady" who did menial jobs on the Island to which she appeared not to be suited. She married twice, and he is the child of the first marriage.
Many, many years ago, he travelled to London, Ontario to see her family home. He says it was quite impressive and had been made a heritage or historical site. There was a plaque on the wall of the house stating this. He remembers that one of the features of its designation as a historical site, was that "it could not be altered in any way".
I can find very few Dakins in the OVS records and only one Dakin in the 1871 census who might be her father. He is David Dakin, born about 1834 in England and his profession is "engineer". He is living in London City, Ward 5(E). Alice Myrtle will show on this census but I do not have access to the full census return. The 1881 census does not yield any Dakin that would fit Alice's facts. By 1901 she was living in Michigan.
If any part of this story sounds familiar or anyone has knowledge of the heritage homes in London, please contact me.
Thank you,
Pam

In 1881 census they showed as Methodists and they had a number of children whose births have been found in London except the oldest Sarah Jane Neil born in 1869. She is there as a one year old in 1871. The family moved to Toronto about 1890.
I need to find the marriage information and the birth record of Sarah Jane Neil would be nice.
Ann Brooks was born in England but the family lived in London. Patrick Neil (Neill) was a soldier from Ireland who most likely served in the 7th fusiliers militia to 1886.
Asking for help from local expertise.

I haven't been able to get past him. In the few letters I have there is no mention of any "past" family. Nothing in his death certificate either.

Across the page from his name is listed his business, a saw mill. On the second line below his business, and across the page from his oldest son is listed an "English Church". Does that mean he gave land for the church? What was it's name? Is there any records from it and where would they be located? Is there still a church there?
In seaching my husbands genealogy I cannot seem to get past his great grand father.. William Evans (have no middle initial) died Feb. 1927 at the age of 77 worked at the McClary plant in London, Ont for over 20 years. Married to Sarah died June 1915. Had two daughters Mrs J.A. Brownlee of London.and Mrs. Frank Haynes of Wilton Grove.
Two sons William H. London, and Walter from we think Pittsburg.
We know he came from the state of New York near Buffalo. I can find hundreds of William Evans but I can'nt seem to find the one that made his way to London. I need help from some one who knows how to trace people. Thank you Marie

From family lineage notes and court affidavit of; SARAH'PHILLIPS'PREVOST/PROVOST,LLOYD,VOTE.Sarah Phillips born Ekfrid,Middlesex Co,Ontario,Canada about the year 1829.Daughter of PETER PHILLIPS(born Brunswick,New Jersey) and ELIZABETH/ELIZABELL'NEVILLS'PHILLIPS(of Fingal,Canada).Sarah Phillips married William Rodman Provost 15 Dec.1846 in Algonac Mich(St.Clair Co).Sarah and William had children;
1)Joseph-born about Aug.1848
2)Elisabeth(Betsy)-born about Dec.1849(she died some time after 1850 Michigan St.Clair Co.Michigan census.
3)Charles-born June 1852
4)Peter-born Aug.1853
5)Priscella-born Nov 1855,Ekfrid,Middlesex Co.
All the children were born Canada West, probably right in Ekfrid.
Sarah claims her husband Wm.Rodman Provost died 1857.She also claims she was aquainted with her deceased husband(WM.Rodman Provost)father,JOSEPH"RODMAN"alais PROVOST since around the year 1836,and his wife Nancy and all 10 children they had. That JOSEPH RODMAN PROVOST was indeed,JOSEPH RODMAN-born 1747 in New York who eluded New York because of an encounter that left his opponent dead.He fled to Canada to escape the friends of his opponent and the officers of the law.He took his mothers surname Provost and under the name Provost took up land grants in York Co,Can.He later came to Ekfrid,Middlesex Co.It was known and talked about in the community of Ekfrid. When JOSEPH"RODMAN PROVOST desceased Sarah Phillips says her Uncle John Phillips preached the funeral and her Uncle George Phillips acted as one of the pall bearers.
Is there anyone who knows of the deth date of JOHN RODMAN PROVOST and wife Nancy in the vicinity of Ekfrid and his son William Rodman Provost(1857-58)and Wm.and Sarah's daughter Elisabeth(Betsy)Provost(death after 1850)?William was first married to a Sally Sidell.Any information would be helpful.
Sarah "Phillips" Provost remarried in 1858 to John LLoyd of Camden,Canada West. They married in St.Clair Co.Mich.They had three children Sarah-born 1859,Margaret-born 1861,and John Wm.jr.-born 1864.All three children born in Dresden and Camden,Can.John LLoyd died in service in 1864.Sarah and all her Provost and LLoyd children relocated in Allegan Co.Mich. by the mid 1860's.In 1867 she married Wm.Jackson Vote.Wm.Vote and Sarah had approx.3-4 girls and the family after 1870 census migrated to Northern Michigan ending in Ironton,Charlevoix Co,Mich.

Sarah"Phillips,Provost,LLoyd,Vote died at 90 years old, maybe a year or so older. She died June of 1920.

Any further information would be appreciated.
I posted a previous query to the surnames Phillips(John and Peter) in Ekfrid,Middlesex Co.board.I forgot to put my e-mail so here it is.Am also wondering if the Phillips of Ekfird were a large family?

Judy of Michigan phillipsloyd-provostvote@yahoo.com

Would sks check the headstone listing to see if she is actually there & if so, is there a date of her death & then see if there is an obit available.
Lookup in London newspaper June 14, 1935

I am hoping that someone can help me. I am trying to find information on a murder suicide that took place June 14 1935 in London. Arthur Carrothers shot his wife Annie Scott and then took his own life with the same gun. Annie is my great great great aunt. I found a tiny note about it in a Vancouver paper (my grandmother remembered it being in the local paper here), but didn't see anything in my quick scan of the Toronto Star (the only Ontario paper that the local library has the films for). The family was somewhat prominent, son Cecil Carrothers has a school named after him...
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could check the paper for me for the 14th through the 17th...maybe obits or articles. I will pay for any copy costs and postage.
Thanks so much.

Could anyone tell me the procedure for obtaining a death certificate from London, Middlesex. The death was my great uncle Joseph Dunn in 1895. I have the registration notice but would like the full certificate.

Help! Look up needed. Death Record - Train, Captain Gospel Army. Feb 16 1888 Orangeville, Ontario.

I need a death notice look up. I have been researching my GGGrandfather for many many years with no success, except with some help I think I have finally found him. Richard Truan emigrated from Cornwall England to Orangeville in the 1880's, and then disappears from the records. I always wondered what happended to him. I have come across a newspaper notice that states, "Train - Captain Gospel Army - death notice - Feb 16 1888 - page 1 column 3" Orangeville Sun. Although the last name is spelt wrong I am sure that this is my Richard as all the other information fits. Can anyone look up a death record for Train for these dates? It would be most appreciated. I can offer a look up exchange here in London, England. Hope to hear from someone!

Cheers,

Mike.

I am looking for info on the Wiliam Taylor family who were located at the S.E. corner of Cherry Hill Rd and Wyton Rd east of Thorndale. They were there for sure between 1871 and 1888.
The family consisted of William born 1835 in Quebec, Sarah
(nee Hardman) born 1845 in Paris Ont, and children Mary Jane, William and Joseph. I am hoping to find out when they settled the land, where William is buried and if his parents Robert and Margaret were in this area as well.

Thanks for any help.

Rick

Hi,
Looking for any info on Edith Boyce may have been born around 1896 or later. Was suppose to be from the London area. We have a picture of her with Frederick Eugene Walkinghood, which we believe was taken before he left for overseas in 1915-1916 during World War I. We would like to know what happened to her after Eugene was killed in Sept. 1916.

Harry Bertrum Sager m. Mary Jane Cockburn London Ontario ?

Looking for decendants of Harry Bertrum Sager b 1901 in Sutton who married Mary Jane Cockburn b 1904 in Ontario. They married in Ontario on 20 Aug 1921. I would be interested in their children, if any. I do know that Harry was still alive in 1943. I believe he had 3 children and have reason to think that the family settled in London Ontario. ANY info would be helpful--even death notices.
