Re: Frederick Kaul & Alice Bickford

Alice Bickford Wedelstedt Kaul was born Alice Bickford in August 1861, the oldest of 2 daughters born to George Bickford and Maryetta Branham Bickford ( obituary of sister Margaret). The mother died Jan. 21, 1867 when Alice was 5 years old and the father died July 5, 1872 when Alice was almost 11 years old in St. Louis, Missouri. Charles Wedelstedt was then working for the newspaper Staats Zeitung in St. Louis in 1872, and he and his wife Sarah most likely adopted Alice at that time. Charles Wedelstedt then moved his family to Wisconsin...he was living in Milwaukee, according to city directories in 1876 and 1877, the year daughter Alice Wedelstedt married Fred Kaul. Alice's younger sister was Margaret "Maggie"L. Bickford Shrimplin who lived in Lawrence, Kansas.

Hopefully it will give me a clue as to who Martha married. If either of you come across it, would you let me know.
Thx, Kathy

Is this will for Mary Hopkins for Mary PRICE Hopkins. I am trying to piece together the Price family from Sussex Co., New Jersey. My grgrandmother was married to Thorn Price, s/oTunis Price, s/o Samuel Price, s/o Robert Price. If I am right, then Mary Hopkins would have been a child of Robert and Abigail Price. I would love to see a copy of this will if this is the case. My research shows that Mary and Abijah would have had two children, Abigail and Robert, which leads me to believe that this is the Mary I am searching for. Please feel free to contact me at kathleenleveroni@yahoo.com.

1839 marriage-McCarty-Lawless-which church??

Seeking clarification for marriage performed 13 August 1839 by Father Edward Gordon. Record indicates marriage performed at The Falls, Welland County. Not certain of the church. My research indicates 2 possibilities; Our Lady of Peace in Niagara Falls or St Vincent De Paul in Niagara on the Lake. Transcribed record is not clear, and research indicates that Father Gordon was active in both churches. There is no birth, age or residence indicated for the participants. Parents are listed, but no indication of whether or not they were present. There are 3 witnesses shown, but no ages, residence or relationship, if any, shown. These are my gggrandparents. They left the area about 1842-1844, after having 2 sons in Canada. They travelled down the river, and were in Louisville, KY by 1850. Thomas was a ship's carpenter/calker by profession. Any help to locate the original record, or additional information would be appreciated.

Hello,
It was so nice to check my e-mail this morning to see your note and offer to check things out in Port Colborne. I am going through my Mom's diaries from the 1950's and wondering if I can get pictures of some of the places she is mentioning. Also, in her Christmas card lists she has some names and addresses that I am wanting to know about. Many places and people are no longer I am afraid. I have a very nice picture of a church there that might still be unchanged. Let me go to church now and gather my thoughts this afternoon and then send you some of my quests, if I may.
Regards,
SueDee

I am searching for a complete death date, an obituary and/or any other newspaper article for Wallace Anson BLAKELY’s 1988 death.

Wallace Anson BLAKELY was born 22 April 1880 in Bruce County, Ontario.

He died in 1988, sometime before 22 April, in St. Catharines and is buried in Tiverton Cemetery, Tiverton, Bruce Township, Bruce County, Ontario. A photo of his memorial stone can be found on The Canadian Gravemarker Gallery Website at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cangmg/ontario/swestont/br...

Wallace Anson BLAKELY was almost 108 years old at his death so I think there should be a number of newspaper articles on his death but have not been successful in finding anything

Many thanks,
Adele

I am looking for information on Lloyd Johnston, brother of Wallace Johnston who farmed in Russell Co., Ontario, Canada. Lloyd lived in Chippawa and was mentioned in Wallace's obituary in 1973. As luck would have it, my father, Glen Johnston a cousin, lived right door in Niagara Falls, Ontario, for many years. We were so close and never knew it :-(

I understand that Lloyd had 2 sons, Phillip and Danny and 3 sisters, Susan (died in 1967), Pauline, and another name unknown.

I would like to know if any of the children are alive today so that I can contact them to share family history.

Thanks,

Clifford Johnston
Pearland, Texas

Hi, many thank for the reply. I have contacted the N.F.library and the Niagara Falls Museum and was not able to find anything about the name of the general store. If you have any other suggestions I would appreciate hearing them.
Thank you for the generosity of your time and knowledge.

If I were you, I'd contact the Reference Department of the Niagara Falls Library using the link below and ask the librarian to check the Vernon's Directory for the city of Niagara Falls for the year 1911 and a couple of years before and after for the name of the general store run by your ancestor, Edward (Ted) Corby, at 334 Portage Rd, Falls View Village.

https://services.nflibrary.ca/cgi-bin/contact/contactus.asp?...

Sharon
Welland, Ontario

Hi, there! If you've not already had your request fulfilled, I can call the cemetery and ask where your relatives are and I can take a photo for you. I live about 2 miles from the cemetery and know it very well. I just posted a photo for a lady from Ireland of her cousins' headstone. Please let me know, OK.
Kathy

Hello Sharon,
Thank you very much for the information & links that you sent to us. We are thrilled as it definately is our family. Also the John & Edward Richardson graves look very hopeful as their birth years are 1925 which is correct and one buried in Fairview the same as their parents. The other twin is in Stamford Cemetary, can you tell us Sharon whether Stamford is near Fairview please?
We certainly hope to put a message on Rootsweb, how wonderful if we could contact a descendent of either John or Edward!
We are so grateful for the help you have given us, thank you for taking the time & trouble.
Kind regards,
Georgina & David Southall.

The newspaper index is online at the Niagara Falls Library site:

http://www.nflibrary.ca/nfplindex/start.asp?db=cari

If you type "Desmond Richardson" in the search box, you can view a clipping from 1943 that gives some background information on Desmond. It also mentions his mother as being Mrs. E.L. Filer so she must have remarried at some point.

You can also type in "John Richardson" but it is not so easy getting info on him without knowing his middle name. I see that there is a John George and John Henry and several more that may be their sons.

There are also digital photos online of the stones of all the cemeteries in Niagara Falls under the care of the city. Church cemeteries are not included unless the city has taken over the care.

http://www.niagarafalls.ca/city-hall/municipal-works/cemeter...

Type "Richardson" in the search box and you will find one John that may or may not be the John you are looking for.

Desmond and John's parents are buried in the same plot in Fairview Cemetery:

Wm P Richardson
1898 - 1935

Elizabeth Richardson Filer
1894 - 1989

Here's a thought for you to consider. You will likely get more readership and response if you also post your query on the Welland County message board of RootsWeb.

Sharon
Welland, Ontario

Canada has VERY strict laws on privacy - similar to England where the 1911 census is also the last one - in England it is 100 years before they are released & I believe Canada is the same - likewise Canada's BMD's - In Ontario, births are only released to 1913, marriages 1928 and deaths 1947 - the other counties i.e. Sask etc have different ones

Thank you very much! I think the first, 1871, is the Frank I am looking for and the 1881 is not. Do you know about Canadian censuses? Why is the 1911 census the last one Ancestry has? Is the 1921 available elsewhere?

Looking for any information on Frank Herbert Owen who was born 1868 in Port Colborne, married Cora Martin, and died on Sept 16, 1920 in Welland. Cora Martin was from Binghamton, NY and they had a daughter named Helen Owen (B. 1893-4 NY, D. Aug 25, 1926 Welland). The family can be found living near Southbend, Indiana in 1900 and by 1911 Frank had returned to Welland where apparently they remained. Frank's death record says his father was "Owen" and mother "Helen". I am especially interested in their burial locations and in any information on what happened to Cora Martin Owen after Frank and Helen's deaths. Thank you!

Dear Gerri,
You wrote to my sister Pearl concerning the Speck family tree. She called me and sent a copy of your info to me, which I received today. The only family tree study, to my knowledge, was done by my dad's brother, Richard. He did the Lederer's side and a little Speck, Hope, & Carman, all related. He only went back to George T Speck.
Pearl doesn't have Internet service so can only write. Pearl has a better memory than I, but probably won't be able to help much. Just in case this is her phone number: 716-693-0545
I also don't have a membership to Ancestory.com, but put some info on the site.

Regards,

Jim Lederer

CLARK family line / Family Plot Headstones on First Ave.

John Clark
Wellington Clark
Rhoda Clark
W.C

These headstone's are on First Ave.(Between Port Robinson Road and Hurricane Rd). East Side. Upon restoration we have been able to determine the full names, dates, and scripture.
Going through this website, we are unable to find a link to these individuals, in our family line. Though our family stories have always included these people burried here. Anyone who has relations to these individuals, if you could contact for further discussion, it would be appreciated.

SIDE NOTE - Lot 211 and Lot 212, and the 84 Regiment of The United Empire Loyalists are also apart of our family stories. We are trying to figure out which John Clarke, links to our family line, the headstones, and the land plots.

Thank you very much.
