To anyone researching Thomas Poole, the following is from a historical designation report done for my house;
The 200 acre parcel of Lot 6, Concession IV in Woodhouse Township, Norfolk County, was first granted to Elizabeth Bonta in 1797. Various land transactions followed over the next 30 years, then in 1830, Anthony Upper sold the entire lot to Elijah Doan. Much later in 1853, Doan sold an 85 parcel in the southeast section to Thomas Poole. A mortgage was taken back by Doan, (the first on the property), so it is assumed Poole began to build a house, barn and settle in. In 1858, another mortgage was taken out with John Porteous. The 1861 census shows that Poole, age 39, was from England, had an Irish wife Mary and 3 young children; Ellen, Jane and Thomas.
