Has anyone figured out anything more on their children? I am trying to figure out of the older daughters - Almira, Nancy, Deborah and Phoebe which one is also known as Fostina/Faustina?
Fostina marries James WAITE and moves to Monroe Co, NY by 1860's. I am thinking it might be Almira but not sure. My other thought is maybe the child recorded as a male in some census born abt 1818 was actually a girl and that would explain Fostina. She is mentioned in land records of Samuel and Hannah's so I strongly suspect she would be a daughter.Hoping to connect Fostina - Mary

I am looking for the descendants of Mr. Henry Ellis who was married to a lady named Leah. Leah Ellis is buried in Little Lake cemetary in Peterborough, Ontario. Henry Ellis died in the late 1950's at the age of 63, after falling from a roof. Henry Ellis is related in some way to the Ellis's of Havelock, and Cordova Mines. He had 3 daughters - Marion, Kay (Kathleen?), Lillian Dorothy, and one son - Henry Clarence Ellis. I would like to know some history behind these people if anyone has something. Thank you.

I am looking for informamtion on my grandpa Seymour's birth and childhood. based on the information that I ahve foundhe was born in Brooklyn,New York. His mother's maiden name (according to SS death index was Stephen. her first nmae may have been Theresa. His father is beleived to have been Thomas Seymour, who was born in Tennessee.

Family history passed down by my grandma Seymour states that grandpa Seymour was orphaned at a young age and until he entereed the navy in 1919 he lived with his foster family (who were either family or close friends of the family). I have located my grandfather's 1920 census aborad the Uss Alden aand he he gives the same address in Brooklyn, New York as a family by the name O'Brien.

My paternal Aunt confirs that this is the name of the family that took my grandfather in after his parents died. The only only clue that we have for the O'brien family is a picture of my grandpa Seymour at about age 27 (Grandpa was borin about 1894) with a woman referred to in the caption as "Aunt kate."

I cannot find my grandfather in nay census prior to 1920, or his family. It is beleived that my grandfather's mother may have re-married after her husband's death, and that this alleged second husband may have died ofthe flu. the family that took my grandfather in were friends of his step-father's family who had a farm in or near long island New York, and that they went to let my grandfather live with the O'briens, so he could attend school with their children. Supposeedly the school was sacred heart catholic school, but I have not come up with anything there either.

At this point, i am not even sure if seymour is the name of the first husband or the alleged second husband of my grandfather's moother's husband, and the same forthe nmae of the name stephen

please help. Any cluesm or advice would be appreciated.

cordially,
Keith h.Seymour
paternal grandson of Franicis Joseph Seymour, Sr.

Lancelot WEIR settled in the Cobourg area in 1837. He and wife Margaret had 4 children: William (1827-1903) who married Sophia BUSH and moved to North Dakota c. 1882; Mary (1828-1914) who married 1) Alexander LINTON and 2) Hugh LINTON; Robert (1830-1905) who married Mary Ann BROOKS from Baltimore and moved to Peterborough about 1862; and Ann Jane (c 1835-?) who married John DAWE. I have lots of info to share. I suspect that a number of other WEIRs in the area were siblings of Lancelot (Edward, James, John. Thomas, Robert, Mary, Elizabeth and George), but have no solid proof yet. Looking to establish location in Ireland that they came from.

My father's name is Lawerence Hogg, some of his siblings are Randy Hogg, Micheal Hogg, and Edward Hogg. There are many more but I don't presently know what they are. Their father's name was Edward Hogg and mother was Elise - Not sure the spelling. They were all brought up in Cavan Township, Ontario, Canada. I can only get that far and I hit a wall.
Any All Help would be wonderful. I know my father was born between 1950-1954. I know I am not giving to much information, but this is all that I know at this time.

I am hoping to connect with others researching this family with several variations of spelling. My ancestor Margaret Jane Belham and her husband, George Gooly Gillet (from Ely, England) immigrated to Hamilton Twp. immediately following their marriage in June of 1873. In October of that same year, George drove his wagon off a bridge and was killed. Margaret remarried to Thomas Henry Douglas in November of 1897. I have seen records of other families in the Cobourg area with this unusual name/names and wonder if Margaret and George immigrated with other members of his family.

1851 Census--Percy Twp, Northumberland Co.--Possibly off?

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone thought it was possible that the 1851 census for Percy Twp could have been taken in 1857/58, possibly? I've seen that in some places it did not occur until 1852, however, for my family, the ages of the children all seem to be slightly too old in this census (I haven't found any other record of them in Canada as of yet).

I have in 1851 census:
Patrick O'Neal age 58
Mary O'Neal age 51
Michael White age 40
Mary White age 32
Nicholas White age 10
John White age 8
Mary White age 6
James White age 4
Thomas White age 2

But then, in the 1870 Census in the US:
Michael White age 63
Mary White age 50
John White age 20
Mary White age 18
Thomas White age 16
Richard White age 14
Elizabeth White age 12
Ann White age 10
Mary O'Neil age 81
(also Nicholas White age 24)

As you can see, the children only age by about 12 years or so between these censuses which were supposed to have been taken nearly 19 years apart. White and O'Neil/Neal are obviously very common Irish names, however, since the order was the same (minus the absence of James in the 1870 census) and the names of the parents and birthplaces of all the kids are the same, I have a hard time believing this is simply a coincidence and that this is not my family.

I would love any help anyone might be able to offer! Thank you!

They are my GGG Grandparents. He was born in Brighton, Northumberland, Ontario, Canada 1819. She was born in Hillier, Prince Edward Island, Canada 1820. Her father was 4 years old when his father moved the family to Canada. They were United Empire Loyalists and while living in Pennsylvania did not join the American Revolution. In 1800 they moved to Canada as did 40,000 loyalists or so the family story goes. I believe her parents are Cornelius Andries Huycke and Phoebe Kemp. If these people fit anyones family please contact me at coyote@mbo.net. Thankyou Elizabeth

HI all

Catherine Morton died in Campbellford Village 11 Jan 1910.

I am looking for where she is buried and for an Obituary as I suspect that one was likely placed in the Campbellford Newspaper of that day.

Can anybody lend me a hand with this? I'd be happy to pay for reasonable costs that might be incurred.

Cheers
Susan

Edward and Ada Morton - Campbellford

Hi All

Anybody by chance researching this family? Edward Morton married Ada Massie and they had 2 children, a son Percy and a daughter Rena by the 1911 Census.

The census indicate he was in the Hardware business in Campbellford village.

Edward with his parents Mark and Catherine can be found in Northumberland Co. by 1881 but they came from Hastings co. Catherine was wife #2 for Mark Morton and he left a number of grown sons in Hastings.

Anybody have anything on this group.

Thanks all
Susan

My grandmother, Eva May (Maiden name Bromley & also Ghent) Russell had the following article in her posession. She was born and given up for adoption in Northumberland. Would like to find out what newspaper and who this following message is talking about.

Volume XX - No. 33

A FAREWELL MESSAGE
----
Her years were only twenty-one,
Yet all that vital force was gone
Which richest comfort brings:
She had not been one month a wife,
And much she prized the joy of life
To which affection clings.

But while she bowed to nature's law,
Her trustful spirit clearly saw
The Tock for sinnerers cleft:
And since she lives where all is well
Sincere affection seeks to tell
The message which she left.

She said "my life through all my days
Calls forth sincere and grateful praise
To Him who rules above:
For parents, husband, kindred, friends
And for that life that never ends
I praise His wondreus love.

Through Him who died our souls to save
I know there is beyond the grave
A place prepared for me:
Supported by His gracious hand
Before the throne I soon shall stand
And all His glory see.

For you, my husband, kind and dear,
Whose love is constant and sincere
God hears my earnest prayer:
Dear Parents, Brothers, Sisters true,
This is my heart's desire for you
That you may meet me there.

From doubt and fear He sets me free
And dearth no longer is to me
A shadow dark and grim:
To friends and neighbors this I say
Receive His grace while yet you may
And give your hears to Him.

Colborne, Feb., 1903 T.
LINTON FAMILY

I have been in the process of creating a genealogy of the LINTON family that had arrived in Canada from Ireland around 1826 and settled in Hamilton Township, Northumberland County, near the village of Baltimore. In later years, some of this family relocated to Alnwick Township, Northumberland County near Roseneath.

I have captured four different branches to date:

JOHN LINTON (1799 - 1874) was married to Jane Gibson.

ALEXANDER LINTON (1811 - 1865) was married to Mary Weir.

WILLIAM LINTON (1804 - 1888) was married to Elizabeth Chisholm.

ELIZABETH LINTON (1826 - 1896) was married to Edward Weir Sr.
Each of these branches had several children.

Would appreciate in hearing from any descendants in order to capture all of the necessary vital statistics for each family member. Of particular interest, are any older photographs depicting the earlier generations of this Linton family.

Thanking you for your interest,
Regards,
Kevin W. Long.

I'm trying to locate information on Bridget Blezard Clark. She was born in Yorkshire, England possibly around 1799. She married William Clark and they were the parents of at least six children. I only know the names of four: Margaret, Mary, Martha, and Matilda.

I'm not sure when they immigrated to Northumberland County - only that their daughter, Margaret, married Shem Parsons in Cobourg (supposedly) in 1859.

I believe Bridget may have been a sister of the Anthony Blezard who died in Hamilton Township in 1876. Bridget supposedly died in the Cobourg - Fenella area, but I don't know when.

Any help appreciated!

I found a family of Catholic Murrays living in a "shanty" in Murray Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario, in the 1851 Canadian census. There were Richard (born in Ireland, ca 1812) and Elizabeth (born in England, ca 1809) with children Margaret, George, Mary, Richard, Thomas and Henry. I believe this family moved to Grand Rapids, Mich. Does anyone know about them?

Robinson Family

I believe you can completely rule out that Henry
Albert Robinson, s/o George & Hannah, was your g-grandfather.

I could not find a birth register for Bert under the given names found for
him. Do you know when he died? I could try to find a death register for
him. Where was he buried?

Bert's father was "John Charles Robinson" but I'm not sure of his mother's
name. It would be interesting to know what evidence was found by your
relative that her name may have been Jane High. I think the spelling would
be Hie, if this was his mother, since this spelling seems prevelant in
Northumberland County.

Here's what I found:
1911 Census/Ontario/Northumberland West/8 Haldimand/ page 4
1 36 Robison Bert M Head M Sep 1875 35 1901
2 36 Robison Emma F Wife M Nov 1885 25 1901
3 36 Robison Jennie F Daughter S May 1898 13 1901
4 36 Robison George M Son S Aug 1900 11 1901
5 36 Robison Robert M Son S Apr 1905 6 1901
6 36 Robison Alexander M Son S Jun 1906 5

Listed immediately before Bert & Emma on the previous page were:

1911 / Ontario / Northumberland West / 8 Haldimand / page 3
47 35 Robinson John C. M Head M Sep 1850 60 1901
48 35 Robinson Hannah F Wife M Mar 1866 45 1901
49 35 Robinson Robert M Son S Oct 1890 20 1901
50 35 Robinson Vernon M Son S Sep 1908 2 1901

The marriage register for George Henry Robinson to Emma Chalice who married
in Roseneath on July 25, 1896 in Roseneath, ON, names his parents as John
Robinson & Hannah Baxter--but his mother could not have been Hannah Baxter
because she was much too young & she didn't marry John until 1887, at which
time John was a Widower. (John went on to marry twice more- in 1916 & in
1920). His full name was John Charles Robinson & he was born in Kingston,
ON, abt 1850/1851, per his 3 marriage registers. His parents were Charles
Robinson & Mandy/Maudy Coon/Cook/Campbell. I could not find a marriage
register for John Robinson/Robison's first marriage. I did check for Jane
Hie/High as well with no luck.

Births:
- Alexander Angus Roy Robison was b. 3 Jun 1906 in Grafton, ON
(Northumberland Co.) This was a delayed birth register done in Jan. 1942 &
was attested to by Emma Robison, his mother. His father's full name was
listed as- "George Henry Bertal Robison" & his mother was down as Emma
Challis. Emma Robison signed this register & was living in Owen Sound, ON,
in 1942.

- Jennie Robison b. 10 May 1898 Female Northumberland Co.- parents-Bert
Robison & Emma Chalice

- George Robinson b. 3 June 1906 Male Northumberland Co., Haldimand
Tp.-Con. 4 Lot 21, parents - Bertram Robinson, Emma Chalice
(this must have been a twin of Alexander Angus Roy Robison since it's the
same birth date)
-------------

1901 Census of Canada District: ON NORTHUMBERLAND (West/Ouest) (96)
Subdistrict: Haldimand C-7 Page 8

8 23 89 Robinson John C M Head M Sep 3 1849 51
8 24 89 Robinson Hannah F Wife M Mar 20 1864 37
8 25 89 Robinson Francis M Son S Oct 16 1889 11
8 26 89 Robinson Robert M Son S Oct 22 1890 10

Note: I could NOT find Bert/Albert/George/Henry Robinson/Robison & his
family on the 1901 Census anywhere; did you have any luck? He was married by
then & Jennie should have shown up in the household as well since she was
born in 1898. This census is important in order to see what birth date was
listed for Bert.
-------------------------
The ages are a bit off but the place is right:

1881 Census, A2- Alnwick Tp., 124- Northumberland West Co., pg. 17 is below.
The only fly in the ointment is that Robert Robinson, 68, & Mary, 57, & a
couple of others were listed immediately after his family which makes me
think these were this John Robinson's parents. If so, this wouldn't jive up
with the above listed parents for John (i.e. Charles & Mandy/Maudy). So, I
don't know what to make of this. I could not find birth registers for the
children below which may have given Jane's maiden name.
Household:

Name Marital Status Gender Ethnic Origin Age Birthplace Occupation
Religion
John ROBINSON M Male Scottish 33 O [Ontario] Labourer
Presbyterian
Jane ROBINSON M Female English 29 O [Ontario] C.
Presbyterian
James ROBINSON Male Scottish 9 O [Ontario] C. There was a Charles Robinson in Percy Tp.,
Northumberland County, but he was b. abt 1831 in Canada & was single.

John Charles Robinson died in Cobourg on Sep 18 1931. On the death register
his son, Robert, was the informant. His death register did give John's birth
date as Sept. 3rd in Kingston, ON, but it had him as being 87 yrs old (which
would place his birth year about 1844; but this may not be accurate). His
parents names were listed as unknown but both being born in England. John
was buried at the Eddystone Cemetery which is located above the village of
Grafton, above the 401 Hwy. Go to this link for Eddystone Cemetery & you'll
find a map - http://www.maccoubrey.com/findCemetery.asp

I did not find a death register for Jane Robison/Robinson in Northumberland
County.
Is there anyone else that might be researching the name WATSON around Seymour, or also Cardiff (former Peterborough Co.) or Herschel (hastings Co.)?

Two brothers (James and Robert Watson) that I know of came from Northern Ireland in the early 1840s and settled around Seymour Twp.
Robert married Isabella Davidson and had the following children: William, Alex, James (my line), Ann, and surely more.
James married Elizabeth Johnston and had: William, David, Robert, Susan, Margaret, Isabella (all born Ireland), Ellen, James and Elizabeth (born in Canada).

By 1871 both brothers were still living in Seymour.

Any help would be appreciated!

Raymond

ROBISON/ROBINSON - Family problem needs solving.

Looking for someone to clear up a family debate for me. A while ago, someone told me that my great-grandfather's name was Henry Albert ROBINSON, born 25, Feb. 1873. His parents are George ROBINSON and Martha HUNTINGTON. This man was born in Hamilton County, Northumberland.

I have recently had one of my family come up with the information, that he was actually George Henry Robison, born 1875, and his father was John Charles ROBISON born Sept. 3, 1849, and mother being Jane HIGH. This man was born in Haldimand Twp, Northumberland.

My grandfather's tombstone says he was Albert ROBINSON, born 1873.

My great grandfather Albert married Emma Jane Chelles. They had 5 children Jane, George, Alexander Angus Roy (my grandfather), Myrtle, and Elizabeth.

Any one that can help me clear this up, I would be truly grateful to.

Thank you,
Amy

I'm looking for someone with the 1861 census records for Northumberland County who is willing to do a look-up for me. I'm looking for the family of Peter Thomson/Thompson, born about 1818, Scotland and his wife Elizabeth, born about 1820, Scotland. They immigrated around 1842/43.I have the following kids from the 1851 census: George,1843: John,1845: Peter,1847: and Robert,1849 all born in Ont.And the youngest, Andrew, born 1862 was in the 1881 census.I'm sure that there would be others between 1851-1861
The last name might or might not have a 'p' in it.

Thanks, Lynn from Manitoba

I am researching my Graham and Sweet ancestors in Percy Township. The Sweet children seem to be scattered all over the place in the Woof, Blair and Wannamaker homes. Two of them, Mary Ann and James are in jail for larceny - apparently for stealing food. Some tragedy has hit this young family.
Their relative, maybe an uncle, James Sweet Graham, is living on what is now called Baxter Road but none of the wee ones are in his care.

This is a long shot because my oldest traceable Graham ancestor first shows up in Prince Edward County - but I'll give it a shot anyway. My ancestor was William Henry Graham. His wife was Margaret/Martha Sweet? William was supposedly born in 1784 in Ireland. I know of one son, James Sweet Graham who was born in Prince Edward County and died in Michigan (where he and his sons were all said to be very prominent citizens).

Francis and Simon Palmateer

Hello Northumberland Researchers!

One more query for today.

Does anyone have any info on Francis Palmateer and Simon Palmateer?

Francis Palmateer lived most of his life in Cramahe Twp. (and sometimes he was in Percy Twp.). He was married a second time to Elizabeth Dingman (wife of Jerrod Dingman). Don't know who Francis' first wife was. They had about 11 children. I have reason to believe that Peter Palmateer (who marreid Elizabeth Byce) and John Palmateer (who married Mary Carter) were two of his children. Suspect that Chester Palmateer (who married Abigail Dingman) was also his son.

Simon Palmateer flip-flopped from Northumberland County to Prince Edward County (Ameliasburgh Twp.). Simon had about eight children, according to a land petition he filed in Ameliasburgh in 1839-40. His petition was ultimately turned down. Simon's land petion stated he was born in Dutchess County, New York in 1766 and left there about 1794.

I suspect that Henry Palmateer (and wife Amanda ????) on the 1851 Ameliaburgh Census was a son of either Francis or Simon Palmateer as the children were Francis (16), Thomas (13), Simon (11), and Abigail (5). There was also a David Palmateer (22) in 1851 in AMeliasburgh who I suspect was s son of this Henry and Amanda.

Would love anyone's help solving these Palamteer mysteries. Simon and Francis were both on the 1804 Cramahe Census and Assessment Roll. Simon and Francis were probably brothers or first cousins.

Does anyone know where either of these two gentleman are buried with the mothers of their children. Francis may have been Bible Christian. He died between 1832 and the 1833 Assesment in Percy Twp. Francis' second wife Elizabeth Dingman-Palmateer lived until the 1848 Census but she disappears after that. I assume she died before the 1851 Census.

Simon probably died in Amelaisburgh or Hillier Twp before the 1851 Census. Would love to know who his wife was and I suspect she came from the States with him as did Francis' first wife.

Any tips or clues would be most appreciated.

Last question - Does anyone know about the Tobey Book? It' supposed to have a lot of info on the early Northumberland families. Apparently it is at the Northumberland Library in Brighton. Does anyone have access to this book?

Many thanks. Willing to swap info.

Dennis

Eldredge Stanton/John Walker/Presbyterians, Cobourg

It is said in a history book written by Perry or Percy Climo that the 1st Presbyterian service in Cobourg was conducted at the home of my ggg-grandfather, Eldredge Stanton. His daughter Mary (Polly) married my gg-grandfather John N. Walker there in 1815. My g-grandfather, Hiram Walker, was born there on 29 October 1840. His oldest brother, Eldredge Walker, was born there in 1816. Apparently there was no civil registration of these events, but where can I locate church records. Perhaps it was a missionary who came to provide presbyterian service to the region though no established church may have been incorporated in Cobourg. What then? Would these records then be held at the Canadian Presbyterian Archives? Oliver Stanton is the only child of Eldredge Stanton that stays in Cobourg, the others come to the United States beginning in the 1840s. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Dan Walker
Folk Art Mystery

Wondering if anyone can help me out with a mystery of sorts.

My Ancestor Michael Mulhall once owned what is now the Grafton Village Inn from 1892-1921. My grandparents, who live in Cobourg, have an old folk art painting that dates from that time, probably in the 1900-1920 period but I don't have a specific date.
Anyway, the story goes that the painting was a gift from a man who later murdered his girlfriend by pushing her under a train in Cobourg. The painting supposedly hung in the Inn for years. There is a dedication written on it that is hard to read but the name "Arthur" is distinguishable. I'm not sure if this refers to the artist or to Michael Mulhall's son Arthur(born 1891), who probably worked at the Inn during that time.
What I'm trying to figure out is how much of this story is true, and if possible, the name of the artist. Does anyone know a good source for tracking criminals in early 1900s Ontario? I've tried searching through old Cobourg newspapers for a lead but haven't found anything so far (until I can narrow the date down it's a lot to go through.)

I'm attaching some pics of the picture in question.

VERMILYEA, CUMMINGS, RUTTAN, HENRY

I continue to search for the family of Barnabas Vermilyer listed in The Marriage Register of Upper Canada West Volume 7 Newcastle District 1810-1848: Barnabus Vermilliar, gentleman to Mary Cummming, lady, both of Cramahe, 2 Aug 1841, Rev. Joseph Messmore, Wesleyan Methodist. Wit. Peter Henry and Daniel Cummings both of Cramahe. I have searched the 1843 census listing for Cramahe as well as numerous other records and find none of these names, so expect that though they are listed "of Cramahe" they may have actually lived else where. If anyone has information on the Vermilyea family (know to have been in Ontario - several locations), William and Rachel (Ruttan) Vermilyea or their children: Peter, William, Jemina, Mary or Nancy, Peter Henry, the second husband of Rachel (Ruttan) Vermilyea or Daniel Cummings --- I would appreciate the help.

Can anyone help me get some info on a Joesph Emerson Mills buried in Coburg Union Cemetery 1990. He was born 1909. His wife is listed on the stone as Betty R Mills 1929 but she is not buried there.

If he is my Joesph Emerson Mills he would have been married to a Helen Marie Elsie in 1930 and later divorced her. He was from around or in the Lindsay area but married her in Pport Colborne. They went back to Lindsay and Helen left him and went back to Port Colborne.

Thanks Dave

GOULDs or Cramahe

I am descended from Seth Burr Gould Sr & Jr, both of Cramahe Twp., Northumberland Co., (now) Ontario, Canada. Issac Gould was listed to have been an original settler of Cramahe in 1793. Issac was the guardian of his younger brother, Seth Burr Gould Sr., also of Cramahe (circa 1798 and on). I am always looking for more information on this family, and the related Palmer, Crandell, and Sager families of the region. Seth Burr Gould Sr. had lands in Richmond, L&A Co., also. He married Hannah Sager, of Richmond (or Fredrickburg). I am trying to find the parents of this Hannah Sager. I figure her to be the granbddaughter of Staats Sager Sr., of NY state and later of Richmond, L&A Co., but by which of his sons I cannot determine.

I have some information on the families of Seth Burr Gould Sr. and Jr., and on the origins of the Gould lines (to Fairfield, CT) if any are interested. The brothers Issac Gould, Seth Burr Gould Sr., and Nathan Gould all settled in the Cramahe area of Northumberland Co. before the turn of the 19th centuty. They were from Fairfield, CT. I also have some information on Palmer Crandell (not his origin, but always looking!) and his wife Deborah Palmer. Her line is quite extensive (she was a Quaker). I believe Palmer Crandell was from NY state, as his wife was.

Any info or questions, give me a holler...

Scott
