Mary Smith was married to Oliver Carter on Nov. 22, 1875 at Stratford Ont. by Rev. Manly Benson.

The Carter family bible was given to me"Dayton Glenn Edmiston in 1953 while I was working for my uncle
Grover Carter in the grain harvest on his section of land at Grand Coulee Sask. He was a brother of my
grandmother, Mabel May Carter, who married Arthur Hartley Edmiston, Sept. 6, 1905. The bible was presented
to Mary (Smith) Carter, Feb. 27, 1886. It was published in 1881. The bible is not in good condition.The Bible is

Mary Smith was a daughter of Anne Menzies who married Mr. William Smith. She was also the granddaughter
of Robert Menzies and Catherine MacPherson who immigrated to Canada from New York State in 1835. Robert
was a son of Robert Menzies and Ann McGregor who emigrated from Scotland to New York State in 1802.
Catherine MacPherson was a daughter of Malcolm and Christy MacPherson, who emigrated from Scotland to
New York State in 1800.

The residence of O. Carter on Sept. 6, 1905 was the scene of a quiet wedding
when Miss Mable, their second daughter, was married to Arthur Edmiston of Blenheim. The ceremony was
performed by Rev. R. McCulloch of Innerkip. Mr. & Mrs. Edmiston left on the afternoon train for Newport. On
their return they will take up residence in Blandford Twp. Among the guests were Mr. & Mrs. McLean, of
Detroit, Miss Zoah Smith, Buffalo, Mr & Mrs. Westlake, New York, Miss Minnie Blaine, Brantford, Miss
Rayment, Michigan, Mr. Monroe, Miss Monroe & Miss Harris of Stratford, & others in the immediate
neighborhood.

The date on Mable's tomb stone reads 1952 But that is not right it was 1953 I am
sure of that because I left Sask. in the fall of 1952 and I remember the
following spring when gramma died, Grover and Aunt Hanna came to Ontario for the
funeral. {That is when I got the Bible.}

Notes for ARTHUR HARTLEY EDMISTON:
Arthur Hartley was my grandfather (Glenn Edmiston) my father told me that he
died of diabetes and he remembered all he wanted was water all the time. He married Mable Carter on Sept. 6,
1905 at the Residence of O. Carter, Blandford Twp. They farmed in Blandford Twp for a time. They had 4
children: Malcolm Earl, Norma Jean, Murray William and Elsie Irene.

Source, Communicants' Roll Book for Shower's Corners Presbyterian Church,
Arthur Hartley Edmiston first appeared on the roll in the year of June 23, 1905.
Arthur was taken off the roll March 15, of 1915, at his death in Blenheim.


Arthur and Mable lived in Blandford township for a while after they married
and then went to live with his father Thomas Edmiston, on the homestead on the 5th concession of Blenheim, It
is possible that they moved in with his parents after he became diabetic so grandma would have some help taking
care of him.

Elsie Irene Edmiston was born June 8,1911, at the homestead farm of Archibald Edmiston the elder. Dr. R.C.
Staples was in attendance at the birth.
Elsie attended a little school on the Drumbo Princeton road between the 4th,and
5th Concession of Blenheim known as Spring Hill School section 13 of Blenheim.


Elsie was a Witness at her sister Jeans wedding on Oct,10, 1942

James Allen was known to the family as {Kelly}.


Kelly was a life long employee of Ontario Hydro, and member of the 40-year
club. Some of his jobs were Ear Falls, and Cameron Falls.
Kelly married Elsie Edmiston at Gobles,Ont. Dec.24th,1938.
After his retirement from the Hydro, Kelly and Elsie Lived in Toronto,Ont.
As of this date, June 7, 1994, Elsie is in Queen Elizabeth Hospital in
Toronto. After Elsie became ill Kelly tended her always with great love and affection.

Earl sold that farm and spent his retirement years in Woodstock,Ont. Canada.
Earl passed away Dec. 26,1983. Earl & Bertha are in Drumbo Cemetery.

Norma Jean Edmiston was born in Blenheim Township, on the homestead farm
of Archibald Edmiston the elder, her great grandfather who came from Scotland in
1842. She was born on July 30, 1908. {Lot 16 in the 4th concession of Blenheim
township in Oxford County,Ontario Canada.)
Jean and her brother Murray were baptized on the same day, Oct. 28, 1910. The baptism took place at Shower's
Corners Presbyterian Church on the 4th
concession of Blenheim. The church has been converted into a private residence..


Jean attended a little school on the Drumbo Princeton road called Spring Hill
School Section 13 of Blenheim Township. That school is now a private residence.


I have all of Jean's school records here in Wolverton .


In March of 1916 Jean and her brother Earl both missed 15 days of school with
the Chicken Pox and her summary of attendance was 159 days for the year.
In March of 1917 Jean missed 4 1/2 days with the measles.
She later went to the Drumbo High School and went on to work in Detroit for a
while. She then returned to Woodstock to work as a secretary in a factory there.
She was married at the age of 31 years, to Ross Tewsley of Bay-City Michigan.
Jean & Ross have one child, a boy named John.


That is all the information I have on her family at this time, April 8, 1994

The Shower's Corners Church Communicants' Roll Book shows Jean Edmiston as
leaving shower's Corner Church, when she moved to Woodstock .
She went to Knox United Church in Woodstock on June 15, 1931


Thomas Edmiston, Jean's grandfather had the homestead passed down from Archibald Edmiston. The farm
house at that time was a large two family home. Arthur
Hartley Edmiston and his wife Mable Carter and their family also lived there.

When Jeans father Arthur Hartley died, Mable continued to live there and
raise the children there. The farm was then passed down to Earl Edmiston from
Thomas Edmiston. Earl was the last Edmiston to own that homestead, and when he

retired, he sold the farm and lived out his retirement years in the city of Woodstock.

Allan Ross Tewsley married Norma Jean Edmiston on Oct. 10, 1942 at the homestead farm of Archibald
Edmiston's on the 5th concession of Blenheim. Ross was employed as a foreman with a construction Co. in
Toronto, in 1942. He was 27 years old at the time of their marriage, and his Jean was 31 years old.

Ross Tewsley's father's name was Arthur Tewsely and his mother's name was
Aileen Ferguson.

Jean's parents were Arthur Hartley Edmiston and Mable May Carter, of Blenheim
Twp.

EMBRO - In a setting of white gladioli, palms, ferns, and candle labra, a double ring ceremony was held on
Saturday in Knox United Church, Embro, when Elsie Doreen Armstrong, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. W. A.
Armstrong, Embro was united in marriage to Mr. Glenn Edmiston, Woodstock, son of Mr. & Mrs. M. Edmiston.
Mr. David Ritchie, Woodstock, sang "Because" before the ceremony, and "I'll walk Beside You" during the
signing of the register.
The Rev. W. J. Maines officiated. The bride given in marriage by her father, wore a white gown of Chantilly lace
over satin and nylon with a matching jacket and lace over a skirt fashioned in redingote style to reveal a nylon
pleated panel in front. Her fingertip veil of illusion net was held by a small tiara of pearls and rhinestones, and
she carried a bible with red roses and white streamers. She was attended by a matron of honor, her sister Mrs.
Richard Yeoman, who wore a floor-length power blue gown of net over satin with a matching headdress of blue
flowers, and carried a basket of pink pompons and fern. The best man was the bridegroom's brother, Mr. Don
Edmiston, Woodstock. The ushers were Mr. Richard Yeoman and Mr. William Hambly, Woodstock. Following
the ceremony, a reception was held in the church parlors. The bride's mother received wearing a navy blue sheer
taffeta gown with navy and white accessories and a corsage of white pompons. She was assisted by the
bridegroom's mother, who wore a beige crepe dress with navy accessories and a corsage of cream roses. The
bride's table was centred with a three tiered wedding cake flanked by candles and red roses. The servers were
Misses Denise Dunnell, Grace Murray, Marjorie Rolls. Shirley Rolls, and Doris Curdy. Guests were present
from Galt, Woodstock, Brantford, and Embro. Mr. and Mrs. Edmiston left on a wedding trip in the United States.
The bride chose for traveling a navy suit with navy and white accessories and a corsage of red roses .
On their return they will reside in Woodstock. Prior to the wedding the bride was feted at three showers.
