From the Ontario Death registrar Rebecca MCCOLLUM died Aug 31st 1904 aged 84 born County Tyrone Ireland. On the 1881 Census in Peel County I have a Rebecca MCCULLUM aged 56 head of houshold is just MCCOLLUM aged 58 born Ireland. I think these 2 woman could be the same person. I would like to know more about this couple especially him. His age being 58 in 1881 would mean he was born in 1823 and that would fill a gap in my MCCOLLUM family from Tyrone Ireland. If I could be that lucky
Look forward to hearing from anyone
Patricia
New Zealand

Does anyone know anything about the Gore Mission Catholic parish records, supposedly from Peel County, Ontario? The LDS records list a St. Patrick's Church (Wildfield, Ontario), aka the Toronto Gore Mission - with records from 1833 - but I can't tell if this is the same location or not.
The LDS IGI has some records (marriage only) from the "Gore Mission Roman Catholic, Peel, Ontario" - but I need to find the births or baptisms as well.

Any help would be appreciated.
Margaret Collins born Albion Township c. 1850

I am trying to find information about my Great Grandmother Margaret Collins. All I know from my mother is that she was from Toronto, was one of four sisters and was a Roman Catholic. She was married to my Great Grandfather, Edward Albert Percy, at St Paul's, London, Ontario on 1 January 1868 age 17; her first child was born in 1869 in New Brunswick and then they came to the UK where she lived for the rest of her life.
I have found two Margaret Collins in the 1851 Ontario Census both age 1. The first is not near to Toronto; however, the second entry looks promising. The parents names are John and Mary Collins, both born in Ireland and the children listed are Mary age 7, Jane age 6, Elizabeth age 4 and Margaret age 1. All the children are listed as Canadian and all Roman Catholic.
Does anybody have any information about this family please? Also, does anybody know about any Catholic baptismal records for this period from the Albion Township.
Many thanks Chris
Hello,
I am looking for any information on the brother of my grandfather. his name was Jan Willem Vlot, and he went to live and work in Brampton, in 1917.He was born 13 may 1887

He worked at the Bulls Farm in Brampton,Ontario. I know that because I have a letter from him.
Just before he went away, he wrote it to my grandfather who was enlisted in the army in the Netherlands.
He didin`t stay for a long time, because he was a bit restless, and my mother told me he was a real Cowboy.

He died 26-2-1926 in Buenos Aires,He went there in 1920.
He had a kick from a horse in his back and he was in the hospital when he wrote another letter to my grandfather.
My grandfather Nijs Vlot died 26-2-1928, so I couldn't ask him.`He was 34, my mother was 2 years old.

I hope anyone can look in the sencus of Brampton, or in the books at Bulls farm for me and find his name or any annotation. Maybe when he died in 1928.

I attached a picture of my grandfather.

Thank you, Eveline Salario
I am researching related families named Middleton and Allison in Ontario, originally from Norfolk, England.

If anyone can furnish an 1881 census look-up, this is my information:

Catherine Ann Allison was the daughter of Edward and Catherine Ann Allison (occasionaly mispelled Alliston).
She had a brother named William Allison, and very possibly other siblings.

Catherine Ann Allison married William Moody at Drayton, (registered on April 17, 1883.)parents listed as Edward and Catherine Ann.
William "Alliston" married Phillis Woolner at the same place, on the same day, parents also listed as Edward and Catherine Ann.

I am looking for more information about Catherine Ann's parents and locality. I assume it is likely they lived at Drayton in 1881 and would appear there on the 1881 census.

If anyone has any suggestions or can help, please reply.

Thank you,

Michael Dwyer
(New York)

Sophia is the Granddaughter of Maj-Gen. Aeneas Shaw. (Maj-Gen.Shaw also had a daughter Sophia, not to confuse the two) Sophia was born in 1822. Married probably around 1840. Died in Palmerston (1897) Her death registration does not name her parents. We have viewed marriage reels for that time period with no luck. Her birth record not available due to fire at St.James. No obit. available. This reg. is needed for her decendents to obtain their UEL certificate. Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Williams, George c1830-1911 Albion Township, Peel County

Hoping to find descendants of the first & (assumed) second marriages of my great grandfather George Williams, born in England c1830 to James & Catherine Williams. George settled in Albion township, Peel County. He married Dec. 1886 to my great grandmother, Abigail Proctor, but it is known that he was married at least once previously and had two sons - the only thing known about them is that they "went west".

I believe George was first married to an Ann Noke in 1861 in Toronto and that she died in 1870 in Albion, leaving two small daughters, Isabella born c1867 and Elizabeth born c1869.

In 1881 it appears George is still in Albion, with dau. Bella, now age 14, a new wife Sarah, and sons William Henry born c1877 and James born c1880. His name is given as Williamson in this census, however, I believe this to be an error as there are no other George Williams in Albion and he was still of Albion in his 1886 marriage record and he remained there until at least 1901.

I have not been able to find any trace of the sons William Henry and James, but it appears that daughter Isabella married in Dec. 1885 in Bolton to a Hector Swinton. Elizabeth Williams, if she lived to adulthood, may have married July 1885 in Toronto to a Thomas Townsend.

Hoping to find descendants of Isabella, Elizabeth, William Henry and James, but any help, clues or leads would be appreciated.

Charles Osborne, Port Credit 1857

Hello -

My 3rd Great Grandfather, Charles Osborne (b. 1818, Runton, Norfolk, England) died in Port Credit on 13 October 1857. His youngest child, my 2nd Great GrandUncle Jonathan, was born in the Township of York in 1856; Charles' wife, Maria Osborne, nee Pyke, died in Morris-Turnberry Township in Huron County in 1906 so at some point there was a migration. James Osborne, my 2nd Great Grandfather, was married in Wingham, so it's possible she moved up there with him.

Anyway, my troubles are with finding Charles. I don't know what county Port Credit was in during 1857; I know there were some changes over the years, and at one point the village was even part of Toronto. It was also in the now-extinct Home County (I believe there were more than one of those, too), and is now in Peel County.

I've been to Port Credit, but I have no idea where to start looking for Charles. Does anyone know which of the few churches there existed in 1857? From what I've read, Port Credit was tiny at that time.

Better still - does anyone know of a Charles Osborne from that time?

Best of luck in your genealogical endeavours -

I have recently learned that two Price ladies, Ann and Elizabeth, were married to Francis McKinney, son of James McKinney.

According to the 1851 Canadian Census, Eliza was married to Francis, and from research, I know what Francis' oldest daughter Sarah (b. about 1832) was the child of Ann Price, so Ann must have died sometime between 1832 and 1851.

My question is, can anyone help me connect these two Price women to Lt.Col. Samuel Price? My theory is that they were his daugthers, and I need to verify or negate that theory.

Any help most appreciated!

Amy

Wilsons in Peel

Searching for descendants of Samuel Wilson. He was a shoemaker and appeared in the 1861 - 1891 census in Toronto TWSP, Peel County. He died in 1896. Samuel rented a piece of land near the corner of Dixie Road and Dundas Street(HWY 5), in Dixie, Ontario(now Mississauga) from 1884 to 1893. In 1877 the land was owned by Mrs. John Wilson. I believe John was Samuel's brother, but I have not proved that yet. From what I can figure, Mrs John Wilson donated the land to the Dixie Union Church and another church next door to it in 1875. John married Sarah Ann and had two children Annie and Fredrick. Samuel married Sarah Montgomery. I believe this was Sarah's second marriage. She was previously married to a Mr. Norris. Samuel and Sarah's children were William, George Henry, Francis, Susan(died at age of 6 years in 1876)Alfred and Eva. Sarah died in 1916 in Dixie, Ontario. George Henry married Florence E. Strasser on Dec 24,1891 in Cooksville. They had twin girls, Ebbett Grace Florence and Rose Mildred on Jan 2, 1894 in Dexter, Ontario(Elgin County). Grace was my Grand Mother.

Contact Mark Burton
mburton@becon.org
Margaret Rodgers And Henry Cowan had daughter Elizabeth Frances (known as Fanny) in 1847 while living at or near Hogg's Hollow. Subsequently moved to Garafraxa Wellington County. Margaret had a brother Edward also of Toronto Township Peel County. Am searching for any historical record of these or other members of their families that may still exist. Thank you. Any clue will do! Leone

Wish to find information on the family of my Gr.Gr.Grandmother Ann Higgins Shaw. She and my Gr.Gr.Grandfather Aeneas Shaw Jr. were married in May of 1817 at St. James Cathedral. They lived in Ching. Twp., Peel County. Not sure at this point, but Ann possibly had a brother William. They were both born in Quebec c. 1798 and 1800. 1871 census shows William living in York East, listed as High Baliff. Ann and Aeneas are buried in Mt. Olivett cemetery in Brampton. Thank you.

George M. ROBINSON, Bolton

Peel County Loses Pioneer ---
George Robinson Proud of Marksmanship on Rifle Ranges

Bolton, Jan. 21 -- In the death George M. Robinson, Bolton, whose funeral took place yesterday to Laurel Hill Cemetery, Peel County lost one of its most cheerful pioneers. Born in England 89 years ago, Mr. Robinson came to the Bolton district via a tiny sailing vessel, and settling near Sandhill, became a teamster, hauling grain from the rich fields of the district to Toronto.

His chief pride, however, was in the record as a marksman he established with the Sandhill Company of militia. Although, he used to admit, he never saw active service, there used to be great rivalry on the rifle ranges between the Sandhill militiamen and their fellow-soldiers from Bolton. The only stake between the two companies was a fowl dinner, but both sides shot keenly for their dinners, and it was almost invariably the Sandhill men, led by himself, who won the dinners.

He treasured, to the day of his death, the old "Tower" musket which had been issued him while he was in the militia, and had, a few years ago, found occasion to use it in defending his home from marauding dogs. He had even taken it deer hunting, despite its weight.

The Evening Telegraph, Toronto, Tuesday, January 21, 1936
1936 Wedding Anniversary - PATTERSON / McCANNELL

Brampton Couple Mark 51 Years Married Life

Brampton, Jan. 21 -- Celebrating their 51st wedding anniversary, and Mr. Patterson's 81st birthday to-day, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Patterson, Union street, recalled the days of their life in Caledon township, whence they came to Brampton nine years ago.

By the courtesy of an obliging mail courier, they had an adaption of the present rural mail delivery fifty years before it was put into general use. Situated on the road the post offices of Grange and Cheltenham, they arranged with the courier to drop their mail in a box at their farm gate.

As a boy Mr. Patterson flailed peas on his father's farm in Caledon, and from such humble beginings became one of the best known threshers in the north of the county. But, for all the work of threshing there was none of it compared with the labor of flailing peas, he remembers. Crouched over the barn floor with a flail, he envied the skill with which the older men swung the implement, and became resolved to try their method himself. His first swing, however, caught him squarely on the back, and he decided to go back to his own peculiar style as less spectacular, but safer. As a young man he started threshing with a horse-powered outfit, and after severing for three years, accumulated enough money to buy an upright steam engine, one of the first used in that part of the county.

Mrs. Patterson, daughter of the late Malcolm McCannell, a pioneer resident of Caledon, and he were married in Caledon village, then called Charleston, by Rev. Mr. Richardson. During his farm life in Caledon Mr. Patterson was for a number of years an elder of the "White Church," one of the earliest organized of the Presbyterian churches in the north of the county. On coming to Brampton they became members of Grace United Church. Mr. Patterson was one of the roadmasters of the township long before the present system of road construction was mooted.

The Evening Telegraph, Toronto, Tuesday, January 21, 1936
I am looking for death record and/or cemetery information on John McMorris who would immigrated to Canada from Ireland around 1850. I found him on the 1851 census, as well as on the 1861 living in Albion Twp. His wife was Margaret. On the 1871 census his wife is remarried in 1870. Their last child would have been born around 1866 so I estimate his death around 1865-1869. He was of presbyterian faith. Thank you.

Robert SMITH in Caledon Township 1841-1892

I am looking for any information available on Robert SMITH (born abt. 1841 in Toronto to James Henry SMITH and Sarah MOORE). He married Sarah Jane Laughlin?who was born around 1851 based on 1881 census. Do not know when/where they were married but assume it was in Caledon area as his father James Henry and his family were living in the Alton region in the 1850's and 60's. I know nothing else on Sarah Jane-when/were born and died, who her parents were etc. Robert died Jan 28 1892 from what I have been told but can't find his death registration so don't know where it happened. The family was living in Cardwell District, Township of Caledon according to the 1891 census. In 1901 Sarah Jane was living in London with a daughter and is listed as a widow. I have lots of information on the rest of Robert's siblings but am stuck on Robert. I have 4 children listed for Robert and Sarah Jane, based on census data but not sure if I am missing some of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mark in very, very wet Vancouver
